Shawn clasps his hands together, "We will be debuting a new duo featuring Hye Jung and Hyemi. For now, you guys will be tired so we won't rush into things today. We can do it tomorrow. Now, do you guys have a place to stay?"
"Um, if it's all right with Hye Jung, we can stay at my parents' place," Hyemi unnie glances at me, asking for my consent. I nod, "I don't mind." A small smile plays on her lips. "Okay, my bodyguard can drop you off at their house, and then pick you up at 10am tomorrow. You'll just have to tell him the address," Shawn starts speaking and we leave the building.
Unnie and I get into the black van as she gives the bodyguard the address. As the car roars to life and moves on to the road, I start gaping at the scenery again. After a few moments of silence, I speak up, "So, Mr. Bodyguard, do you have a name we can call you by, or is it just Mr. Bodyguard?"
For the first time, it was like he smiled. A low chuckle escapes his lips, "It's Charles." I nod, relaxing in my seat, "Charles. What a princely name." As soon as I finished my sentence, all three of us burst into laughter. On the way to the house, we made small talk here and there, learning about each other, and before we knew it, we had arrived.
We hop out of the car and Charles unloads our luggage for us. "See you tomorrow, Charles," we wave goodbye to him as he drives off. I stare at the house in front of my eyes; posh house, white walls, beautiful high-arched windows with black frames, a few balconies which I suppose led to the rooms, a huge garden that seemed so welcoming to me as birds chirped in the trees, and a not-so-secret pathway that led to the beach the house was overlooking.
I exhale sharply, standing in front of the door as Hyemi unnie stood beside me. She notices that I was tensed as she places a hand over my shoulder, giving me a small beam, "It's okay, Hye Jung. I'm sure my parents will love you."
I slowly nod, pursing my lips as she knocks on the door. We hear a few muffled voices before the door opened, revealing short, mid 50s woman. She took one look at Hyemi unnie before embracing her in a welcoming hug, a cheerful smile plastered on her lips, "Hyemi dear. It's been so long since I last saw you. How have you been, dear?"
"I've been good. New Zealand was such a cool place though. It was so beautiful!" She exclaims, "Oh, yes. Speaking of New Zealand, Mum, I brought a friend."
Her Mum's gaze was now fixed on me. She scanned me from head to toe, before a smile settled on her lips.
"Mum, this is Hye Jung. Park Hye Jung. Hye Jung, this is my Mum," Hyemi unnie spoke as her Mum's hand reached towards mine, giving it a light shake.
"Nice to meet you, Mrs. Kim," after letting go of her hand, I slightly bowed my head. "I like her already," she beamed before opening the door fully, allowing us space to enter.
As she closed the door, I took this time to take a look at the house; a wide foyer with a vast curving staircase at the side, and polished wooden floor with white walls that accommodates different sized paintings.
Overall, the beachfront house was very modern in style. Amongst all the modern, there was plants and flowers laid out. We follow Mrs. Kim into the living room, which is similar to the entrance.
We placed our bags at the side of the couch, the hue of it a friendly, warm beige. As we sat down, an older man joined Mrs. Kim, placing a gentle peck on her lips before sitting on the couch across from us.
I'm guessing he was Hyemi unnie's Dad, Mr. Kim. "Dear, this is Hye Jung, Hyemi's friend," Mrs. Kim introduced me to him. "Nice to meet you, Hye Jung. I hope you will enjoy your stay here," he gave me a warm smile, which I returned.
"So, Mum, Dad. I have some news," unnie starts off, "Hye Jung has been talking to Shawn Mendes for a while, and we met him today. He asked if we wanted to be a duo together, and we agreed. We hope you don't mind."
"Oh, of course not, dear," Mrs. Kim waves a hand in the air, "We believe in you. Follow your dreams."
"But, for now, let's show Hye Jung to her room," we stand up at Mr. Kim's words, grabbing our luggage as Hyemi unnie's parents lead us up the stairs, across a wide hallway, before stopping at a door.
They open it and step aside, allowing me room to enter. I stare in awe at the room. It was completely different compared to the rest of house; warm, beige curtains, oak-coloured wooden floor, king-sized bed with night blue bed sheets, and a light grey, fluffy throw.
A bay window with beige cushions that stared out to the beach, a TV, a connected bathroom, with a walk-in wardrobe.
"You like it, don't you?" Unnie smiled as she saw my reaction.
"Love it," I whispered, turning back around to meet her parents' eyes, bowing 90 degrees, "Thank you for letting me stay here."
"You're very welcome, Hye Jung," they smiled, "Well, we best be off now. We have a party to attend." With that, they walked off.
I place my luggage next to the couch, that lay beside the bay window, and jumped on to the bed, sighing in content as I close my eyes.
I feel her crawl onto the bed next to me. "Are you alright, Hye Jung?" I open my eyes, staring at the ceiling, "Yes, why?"
She shrugged, "Just asking."
I chuckle, "You should get some rest. We've had a long flight."
"Sleep tight, Hye Jung," she smiles, before leaving the room.
I exhale sharply as simple thoughts invaded my mind.
. . .
I glance at the clock that hung on the wall beside my bed. 11:05 pm. After contemplating for a while, I climb out of my bed.
Slowly walking through the hallway, down the curved stairs and out the door, going towards the beach.
The sound of waves splashing against each other and climbing up the shore calms my nerves.
The gentle glow of white-blue hue falling upon the sand from the moon that stood out amongst the endless, black void.
The cool breeze raked through my hair, gently nipping at my skin as it whispered inaudible words into my ears.
The glimmering path the moon created on the surface of the water as the waves continued reaching the shore.
I sit down on the sand, admiring the beauty of the night sky, taking it in.
The stars glittered in the serenade of the black, as if they were a choir, different voices that speak the same words.
A small sigh emits from my lips, thoughts of my parents invading my mind.
A few tears escape from eyes, rolling down my cheek haltingly as I think about my family.
I'm sorry, Mum and Dad. I wasn't good enough for you. No matter my efforts, I'm sorry I disappointed you. I just wished you could show me the same amount of love you have towards Seo Yeon. I just hope you will find happiness and continue your life as you had when I was present. I will always love you forever. I'm sorry.
. . .
