Ashton POV
"Ma'am, Sir, may I come in?" I asked respectfully
They both nodded, opening the door wider for me to come in. The guy looked at me with anger, and I knew that he knows what happened.
"What is it, deary?" Asked the girl pointing to the couches. I sat on one side while they both sat on the other
"I'm so so sorry," I said burring my hands in my hair
"What are you sorry for?"
"I...I.." no words would come out
"You promised" the man half yelled
"Jerry" the woman scowled
"I know, I know, and I made a huge mistake letting her go... I...I..lo..." I stopped myself. Looking up from my hands, I saw the woman about to cry, and the man looked at me with no expression.
"Ashton, why did you let her go?" The woman asked softly
"Because I found out and I being was selfish by protecting myself" I answered honestly
"How? How did you find out?"
"The day that you were walking through the graveyard, I found out."
"Do you know her story?"
"Ye.. yes."
"I need to know something," Jerry asked looking at me intelligently
"Ask"
"Would you help her when needed?"
I was about to respond when he butted in again
"Would you care for her?"
Again, about to respond when he butted in.
"Would you do anything to make sure she is comfortable and healthy?"
This time he didn't interrupt
"I would not leave her for a second and when or if I do, I'll get Ava or Emma to look after her, so I know she is well and safe," I said looking him dead in the eye to get him to believe me word
"I have one more question."
I gave him a small nod letting him continue
"Do you love her?" he asked sitting back as he thought he got me, letting his guard down
Making my silence longer, a smirk grew on his face telling me that he won. No, he didn't. "With all my heart" Again, looking into his eyes for him to know I'm telling the truth. Amy ginned as Jerry sat back up.
"Sir, I know she's not your daughter, but you treat her like one. I would like your permission to date her"
Jerry looked at Amy, who was already looking at him. She made no attempt to communicate with him as saying it was his choice. He looked back at me, and my heart dropped. I hadn't got permission. I nod with pursed lips as it sunk in. I stood up and wiped my hands on my pants before looking at them smiled a sad smile.
"Sit down, Son"
I sat back down, not knowing where this was going.
"You have our permission," he said as I released a breath
"Thank you. Thank you so much" I felt tears starting to brim at the surface of my eyelids
"Come here, honey," Amy said, walking over to me with her arms open. I bent a little to hug her with my head on her shoulder. I closed my eyes as a stray tear fell. She pulled back a bit to wipe the tears that fell before putting both hands on my face
"She's in her bedroom."
I nod before looking at Jerry and sticking my hand out for him to shake. Once the handshake was over, I went up to the stairs to Moonlights room. Opening the door, I saw her tucked in her bed with her eyes swollen and red while her glasses on the cabinet next to her.
I brought a chair next to the bed where I moved her hair out of her face before leaning in and kissing her forehead. I traced my fingers over features while studying her. I could feel that Moonlight's Aunt and Uncle at the door watching my every move. Moving my hand back, she reached her hand forward until she could feel mine, grabbing it and taking it with her. I smiled at how cute she was. She moved over in the bed to make room for me where I sat upright in the bed.
I looked up towards the door to see Jerry and Amy returning into the hallway, more like Amy grabbing Jerry's hand and pulling him down the hall to give us privacy. Taking off my shoes, I moved down the bed, still on top of the covers, facing her. Soon enough darkness overcame as I peacefully watched Moon.
