Kristina's PoV
The next day I got to the Café and began to set the café up for the customers by cleaning the tables and organising the menus on the tables and the shelves. I stood back and ran a hand over my head to clear any sweat beds that appeared from the hard work. I never knew cleaning required so much energy. I went to the door to flip the sign and put out the menu sign. But as I opened the door a woman stood on the other side, hand posed to knock on the door. I raised an eyebrow at her as she held her hand in place and stared at me in bewilderment. She quickly retracted her hand before stuttering out a reply.
"Hello, I-I... I'm here responding to your wanted sign in your window?" I looked at where she was pointing and sure enough was the bold red sign saying waiter/ress wanted. I gave her a swift nod before opening the door wider to invite her in and proceeded to move the wooden stand outside. She walked in sheepishly and looked around at the empty room.
"I'm used to thus place being full, seems like a ghost town without people in here. Oh, I'm Scarlet May."
"you're usually a regular aren't you." I thought I've seen her here before. Her long blonde hair reaches down to the bottom of her back. She wore a white knee length summer dress with a straw hat. Her eyes were sparkling blue like the ocean sea and she smiled at me with her thin red lips. She was a couple inches smaller than me even with her short healed white shoes. Considering it was summer, I wasn't surprised to see her wearing this. She looked at me shocked and gave me a small nod,
"You recognize me?" I nod towards her table in the back-left corner which was hidden by a tall plant.
"Yeah you sit there, considering you're the only one who sits there you're not hard to miss." that and my immense memory that I used to use. I walk over to the counter and picked up an apron before chucking it at her. She clumsily caught it and stared at it in wonder.
"You'll train on the job and today will be your test whether you will be accepted or not. Don't disappoint. Customers don't arrive normally until another 10 minutes, so I'll quickly teach you the basics. She gave me a determined nod before placing her hat on a nearby stand and began tying the apron around her before joining my side. As promised I taught her the basics of making the special coffee and how to take orders. Customers began flooding the place, the most I've had in a while. For once I'm thankful someone came and helped because I wouldn't have gotten everything done in time without her. I watch as she took orders from a table of boys who were obviously making it awkward for her. Sighing I place the cloth down I was using to clean and went over to take over."Come on Scarlet you can take a break, I'll handle these." She looks at me unsure, but I gave her a stern look which made her nod and run off. One of the lads were about to hit her ass which I quickly put a stop to by grabbing his arm.
"Hey toots what is the big deal!"
"While you are in my café you will not assault my employees in anyway and make them feel uncomfortable. Do you understand me boys?" I gave them all a killer glare which they all backed away from.
"Oh-h yeah and what gives you a right to tell us what to do old hang." They did not just call me old. I slam my hands on the desk in front of the boy. He looks to be around eighteen, they all do. "Listen brat, I know that you don't know how to handle your hormonal body, but it gives you no right to take advantage of others because you don't know how to control your sweaty excuse for a body. Now if I was you I'd take your fuck buddies and go somewhere else before you stink the place out with your bullshit." He looks taken back and frightened by my vicious words and gulps down harshly before trying to put on a strong face.
"F-Fine we didn't want to drink here anyways." They all got up to leave but as they did I stopped him before walking out the door and gestured over to Scarlet who stood by the side and watched everything go down.
"I believe you should apologize don't you think. Be the real man and while you're at it tip her for dealing with your shit." Seeing his gang wasn't in the room with him he quickly looked in his pockets and produced a ten-pound note quickly handing it to Scarlet before mumbling a 'sorry' before dashing out of the building. Multiple customers began sighing in relief and thanking me for kicking the out. Turns out their loud dirty mouths were not only annoying to me but everyone else. I turn to check on Scarlet and she held out the note for me to take with her head bowed.
"T-Thank you for that, please take this." I sighed and shook my head and grabbed her hand curling the note in her hand before pushing it in her chest.
"He gave it to you for being a good waitress." She smiled at me and then opens her arms and launches at me for a hug, but I quickly step to the side and grab her collar to prevent her from falling over in the middle of the café.
"I don't do hugs." She stood and scratched the back of her neck awkwardly but then gave me a massive smile.
"Thank you, Sage this means, so much to me." I nod at her then started explaining to her what the job entrails.
"Your hours will be between seven am which is when we open till three pm. you'll be paid nine pound eighty per hour if you have a problem with the pay, we can have a conversation about it later. However, I am needing to close the shop a little early today since my friend has planned a blind date." I grunt as I remember that I must go on that date tonight or Eric will never leave me alone about not making friends. Her eyes seemed to sparkle with determination.
"S-Sage if you allow me, can I keep the shop open and run it while you're out?" She bowed again in front of me and I pulled her up because I began to feel embarrassed.
"What do you mean? You want to run the café alone?"
"Y-Yes you've never closed early, and I know people will be disappointed if you do. So, allow me to show that I am a trustworthy employee and that I am worth keeping around." She was basically begging me.
"Fine on one condition. Why do you want to do this so bad?" Her face began to turn red from embarrassment as her eyes fell to the ground.
"Me and my brother live alone, he has his jo but it gets us by so I thought getting a job would help. Also..." I raise an eyebrow urging her to continue,
"I want to do what you do, give people smiles and repay your kindness you give." I shake my head and smile at her explanation. This seemed to put Scarlet off guard at my new expression as I began to chuckle.
"If that's your reason fine. But you won't be paid for over time."
"That's fine!"
"Now come on I see some people with empty cups that want a refill." With another smile she dashed off to help the customers.
'Repay the kindness you give.' A small smile floated to my lips again as I recall her words. Is this what having a friend feels like? Yoư̪̹̙̞̥̟̙ ҉͎̘̩̖̰̺c̕an̴̞'̹̯͓t̥̀ ҉͚̹̲͎m҉̯̬̥a̸̙͇̭̮͍̹k̜̭̟̞̪͞é͔͇̹̤̗ ̲͉u̺͙p f͞or̸͍̙̻̰ ̬̙̦̭̺t͏͇̟̯̺h͏̬̟ḛ̙͚̰̩̠ ̵̗̜̯̟̯ͅl̰͟i͎̰͇͎͚̗͘v̧̤͓̺̮e̺̩̕s҉̰̖ ̥̭͎͔̠̝̭͡y̸̦̪̻̩͇ͅo̹̳͈̬u̠̹'̟̥̮̘̩̫̦v̨̲̹̫̥̲͉e ̱͙͚̙̤͡ru̘̘̹̥i͙̼̰n͝e̞̫̱̰̥͝d͕͈̲ Then my past dawned on me again causing my smile to fall. If she only knew who I really was or am... She wouldn't look at me like that anymore. Wanting to get rid of the negative thoughts I began busying myself with taking orders and producing the drinks that people requests. If they only knew.
