Scarlet's PoV
"You're getting out of the hospital today?" If my smile got any bigger, I swear people would think I've killed someone.
"Yep just got to pass a final few tests and I'll be clear to go. I'll head back to my house and call work to tell them I'd be back in tomorrow." I nod even though he could hear me on the other end of the phone.
"If you're nodding Red I can't see you." I rolled my eyes at his little nickname he has given me.
"I nodded. Make sure you get some rest. Wouldn't want you painting and getting blood on your canvas." There was a laugh from the other end of the line but a slight pause for thought.
"That actually might be a good idea for a drawing..." I gasped and shouted his name thinking he was being serious about painting in his blood. Even though truthfully, I know he was joking.
"Chill Red I'm joking don't worry I'll be home sleeping probably for the rest of the day. Need me don't be afraid to call." I roll my eyes and as I turn the corner onto the street where the café lies and continue to walk to the building.
"What are you doing once you get out of the hospital? Back to work, I hope?" I hear a groan on the other side of the call and chuckle once more. He loves doing his work, but he hates the people he must surround himself with to do what he loves.
"I was thinking of finishing the shopping since that is what I left off before getting stabbed. Then I might go back to work." I shuddered as he casually mentions his near-death experience like it was nothing.
"Seriously Axel, you speak like your stabbing was a gift."
"Well, it is! If I hadn't been stabbed, then I wouldn't have met that woman. You know for the past couple of months I've been pushed to make a new art line. That night I was about ready to give up and that woman gave me a new idea. She inspired me and plus saved my life."
"She's dangerous! From what you've told me she basically ripped three strong men to bits. What do you think she'll do to you?"
"If she wanted me dead, she would have killed me. She didn't kill me."
"Maybe next time you won't be as lucky," I mumbled under my breath as scenarios of Axel meeting this woman ran through my mind.
"What was that?"
"O-Oh umm nothing. Look get some sleep and I'll see you once I've finished... work." My words drifted off at the end once I saw the sign on the front of the café window.
'CLOSED' I checked my phone for the time and saw I was a few minutes early, but she normally had the shop open for any early people wanting to miss the morning rush.
"Everything alright Red?"
"Yeah umm... just the café is closed." I try the door to see if it is open but to my surprise, the door is locked.
"Why is that bad?"
"Because I've never known her to close the café. She's been acting strange lately..."
"You haven't known her for long, it has been barely a few days." I roll my eyes as I try peering through the window to see if I can see her inside. However, the lights were off, and everything seemed untouched. Except for a lone tool box which is sat on the counter.
"I know that, but I've been to this café long enough to know when she opens, and she's been wary around customers. Normally she will be greeting everyone at the door. Ever since her date night whenever someone enters she seems... afraid to look."
"You don't think something could have happened to her when she was on the date, do you? You don't think the guy she was with could have done something to her?"
"N-No I don't think so. I mean her friend hooked her up, so I doubt her friend would place her with a man that she doesn't know... Still, you can't trust some people. Look I need to go and find where she is, so I know if she is alright and if I'm working today."
"Alright Red. See you when I get home. Hope that lass is alright. I might use her for a painting..." He trailed out as he began to think about his work. I say another quick 'bye' before ending the call then quickly calling Sage. She had given me her number in case I had to call her on her date night for any issues. One ring... two rings... thr-
"Who is this?" Her voice came through my speaker which I could then relax thanking the imaginary god that she's alright.
"H-Hey umm Sage the café is closed..."
"Yeah... I meant to do that. Oh yeah, I thought I had mentioned it to you, but I guess I had forgotten. The electrics in the building have broken and I'm having to shut the café to fix them."
"Oh umm... is there any way I can help?"
"No, it's actually quite dangerous. It's best if you just go home... Eric, don't you dare!" I heard chattering in the background. Then shouting before I saw someone come from the back door and head towards the door. With a quick click, the door was unlocked, and Sage's friend stood in front of me. The same person who took me to the hospital.
"Nice to meet you again Scarlet, why don't you come in. It's not as dangerous as Sage is making it out to be. I'm almost finished and we're drinking some tea. Why don't you come in and have a cup with us?" He moves to the side opening the door further and allowing me in. Behind Eric stood a very disappointed Sage.
"Oh, ignore her Hun, she was just trying to get you to go home to have a nice day off. Plus, prepare for when your brother comes home." He places a hand on my back and leads me to the back door and up some stairs to a living room.
"You live here?" I turn to Sage as she lets out a sigh and heads to the kitchen grabbing a cup to pour me a cup of tea.
"Yeah, I have no real reason to go outside other than to get supplies and such. So, I keep to the café and the café is my home."
"As you can tell, she doesn't go out much." Eric tries to make a joke to ease the tension in the room and points to a chair which is next to his. I still stood in the middle of the room looking over to Sage for actual permission.
"Make yourself comfortable, you don't need to ask me for every step you make." Taking a breath, I take the vacant seat and Sage comes with the tea a moment later and sits it down on the table in front of us.
"So... the café will be opened tomorrow?" Eric and Sage look at each other before Sage lets out a sigh.
"The thing is Scarlet... I'm moving."
