"You want a rematch?" Bakugo scoffed.
"Mhm! But we're rematching for high stakes here."
"Haaaaah? Like what?"
"If I win, you have to tutor me until the exams. But if I lose..." You say, pulling a wad of cash out your pocket and waving it in his face. "You get fifty bucks."
He stared at the money and then back at you, contemplating his options. It was impossible to read what he was thinking from the blank expression on his face. You just hoped it was enough for him because sadly, that's all you had to offer.
"Tomorrow. 6pm. I'll send the address." He grumbled while walking away. "Don't get your hopes up Devil girl, I'm going to win."
A proud smirk formed on your face as you began walking the opposite direction. Your bribe had surprisingly worked.
"Get your notes ready." You yelled back.
Your walk home was different than usual. Ever since you left campus you couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. At least your walk was nothing more than a couple minutes. To the right of the sidewalk was a row of neatly trimmed shrubs leading to a mini forest. You could hear the sounds of birds chirping and fluttering in and out of the bushes. Among the pleasant sounds you swore you could hear the sound of faint, padded footsteps behind you syncing up with yours. You turned around to see who it was but realized nobody was there. You looked around the road confused as to what was making that sound.
am i just being paranoid?...
The sound of the bush beside you rattling startled you. There was no way that could be just a bird. You stumbled back and saw beautiful orange tabby crawling out of the bush beside you. Your paranoia completely faded, having been in love with cats ever since you were little. You crouched down beside it, running your hands along it's golden fur while occasionally scratching under it's chin. He responded with a low purr, walking closer towards you. He even began to rub against your legs, loving the attention he was getting.
You were obsessing over the little nugget, giggling over how cute he was like a little kid. You whipped out your phone and filled your camera roll with photos of him to send to Mina later. You zoomed in on him and your smile quickly faded. There was no way. You eyed his ear a bit before sliding your hand from his chin to his neck, lightly wrapping your hand around it before abruptly grasping it. Hard. The cat immediately started crying and clawing at you, flailing around to try to break free. His claws ran deep down your arm but you only squeezed harder. The pain and blood trailing down your arm was really the least of your concerns.
The shrieks began to change, sounding more and more human every second. You were right. The cat began to take the shape of a man beneath you. The lack of oxygen and panic caused him to revert back to his original form.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." You hissed, using your spare hand to remove and burn the chip placed on his ear.
The man was back to normal and a whimpering mess under you. He seemed genuinely scared for his life. Scrambling around gasping for air, the colour beginning to leave his face. Too bad you didn't care. You were crouched down on the sidewalk watching some random spy slowly begin pass out. You leaned towards his ear.
"Who sent you here." You calmly demanded, already knowing the answer.
The man kept struggling against your grip, refusing to answer your question.
"I'M SORRY WAS I TOO QUIET? I SAID WHO SENT YOU HERE?"
"Sh-Shi-" He choked out.
"I fucking knew it." You scoffed, releasing your grip and tossing him aside. "Tell your boss I've made up my mind and I'm never going back"
The man collapsed on the ground in a coughing fit, scampering away as fast as he could in his weakened state. Thank god there weren't any nearby pedestrians watching you choke some cat-man. You were more worried about the fact that Shigaraki really was after you. Who knows what he would do if he found you.
You fumbled with your keys and unlocked the door, looking around before stepping inside. What if they figured out where you live? What would they do to Maori? You lumbered through the halls like a zombie, ignoring her persistent calls to you. You just wanted to go to bed and forget what just happened.
"(Y/n)? (Y/n) what are you doing? Are you ok?" She called out from behind you.
You entered your room, collapsing on your bed. Maori trailed in after you, standing outside your opened door. You turned around to shoo her away but she gasped when she saw your bloody arms. She jogged to the foot of your bed, kneeling down beside you. You already knew she was about to bombard you with questions and wouldn't stop until she got answers.
"What happened to you?"
"They're after me again." You said through a blank face, averting your head away from her concerned face.
"What?! How do you know? I told you to keep a low profile!" Maori interrogated.
"They saw me at the USJ attack when I was fighting the villains, I couldn't help it! He's sending people to spy on me! One followed me on my way home! And, and-"
Maori cut you off with a hug. It took you a while to process what was happening so you just sat there, limp in her tight grasp. You tried to speak but the lump in your throat only allowed you to choke through dry sobs. It wasn't in your character to cry, but for the first time in a while you were genuinely scared. You finally gave in. Your arms wrapped around Maori as tears began slowly trickling down your cheek and onto her shirt.
"I don't want to go b-back." You choked through your sobs, burying your face in her chest. "I don't want anything to h-happen to y-you."
"Don't worry, nothing is going to happen to me or you. Did anyone see you enter the house?" She gently questioned, running her hand through your hair.
"I don't...think so."
"I think it's best if you stay home from school a day or two. You should really be more careful."
"I can't." You sniffed, breaking the hug. "I have an important thing tomorrow with this kid. Plus, exams are coming up and I can't afford to miss anything."
"Don't be stupid. You're staying home tomorrow and that's that. Your friend can bring you your missed work."
There was no point in arguing. You nodded and she walked out your room, letting you know there was dinner ready if you wanted. Your appetite was long gone by now. You forced yourself out of bed and walked to the washroom. You looked like a complete mess. You began washing the dried blood off your arms and wrapped a decent sized bandaid around it a couple times. The wounds weren't that bad but would cause a lot of suspicion if someone saw them. People thinking that you did that to yourself was the last thing you needed.
You climbed back into bed and wrapped yourself in blankets, not having the energy to change out of your uniform. You opened your phone, surprised to see a message from Bakugo. No context, just an address. The address was for a park relatively close to your house. You swore you might've even passed by it one time. Either way, you still weren't even sure Maori would let you leave the house. You couldn't back down now though, so you sent him an "ok" and just went to bed. You would figure out a plan in the morning.
