Khyree
"Get the black one, it's sleek and sexy." Norton begged his cousin.
"Man...it's Miami, straight fire and heat. I say red." I watched the two cousins argue back and forth. They could be a lil annoying, yet entertaining. The competitiveness between the two as we walked the few blocks here, was ridiculous. What do you get out of getting as many female phone numbers as possible?
"Aight, aight. I gotta pick these edibles up, before dude leaves. I heard that he got the best edibles down here and his girl making a new batch of cookies." Norton gave in, looking at his phone. I shook my head and waited, while Brayton finished the paper work for the rental SUV he got.
After everything was done, the cousins went where they had to go. It was me and Brayton, I know we sorta good and all, but it still felt weird. He drove to another restaurant, I mean I could go for something else to eat. The half rack of ribs and two potatoes and fries wasn't really enough for me. I followed Brayton into the restaurant and we each grabbed a seat.
"Hi guys, what can I get for y'all today?" A tall thin woman came to our table.
"Gimme a double shot of Hennessy," Brayton said and looked at me. "I got you." I looked at the menu right quick.
"Can I have a triple bacon cheeseburger, no onions and tomatoes. Large fries and a Coke." The woman gave me a smile.
"You got it..." She looked at me longer and turned to walk away. I heard Brayton laughing lightly, I looked back at him
"You could get so much girls and you don't even see it." I was confused, yeah I get attention for my height and size, I'm used to it. Brayton leaned his elbows on the table and looked at me in all seriousness. Like he was tryna understand something.
"I thought you woulda went back to the hotel." I asked, Brayton leaned back and shrugged.
"Since the cousins dipped and we still gotta wait on the ladies, why not have a drink. I know them ribs wasn't enough for you neither." The same waitress came back with our drinks.
"Your food will be right out handsome." She winked at me, once again turning around.
"I see you don't drink. By choice or never had the chance?" Brayton sipped on his drink.
"Both I guess." It seemed like he was waiting for me to say more. I ain't the conversation type. I avoided talking to anybody in prison, so I guess it stuck.
"You don't sleep. You stayed up all night." I shrugged and looked out to the beach area. It was bright and sunny, humid and hot. It was still weird how I was no longer confined to the four walls anymore. I was starting to feel somewhat free.
"You know, it doesn't help you much if you keep your silence. Mom obviously see something in you. I don't know what happened, but If you don't speak about it, how are you gonna help clear your name?" I turned back to face him.
"What's the point of clearing my name, if I already did the time?"
"Time I'm starting see you served unfairly. You was a kid then, I get it. Scared, nervous. I was wrong for treating you the way I did, but I'm seeing someone completely different. You're quiet, you not looking for problems, just wanna live the rest of your life in peace and I think you always been like that."
"Your mom ask you to talk to me? Cuz it's weird that you would just bring this up, when it's just us two." Brayton took another sip of his Hennessy.
"Just a brother tryna help another one out. I got a lot of felons on my roster. No one wants to give them that chance to work, I see how hard it is for them to find a decent job. I seen how people look at them, so I give them that chance. Without disclosing any information to my clients unless I have my guys permission. But you...my mom don't fight for nobody if they're guilty. Imma trust her on this, I wanna help you. But bruh, you gotta talk about whatever happened. Fight for yourself, don't be a scapegoat for someone and they living free or is still living the high Life." I looked at Brayton, a lil confused.
