"Ms. Watts.....under psychological evaluation, you have been deemed fit to stand trial and sentencing in the murders of Gloria and Hendrix Harding and accessory to the death of DeMarcus Olom. Do you understand that this a punishable offense in the state of Massachusetts?"
"Yes." Carly sat staring blankly into space. Her hands were cuffed in front of her.
I had to be here, find that justice for my parents. Even though it was more than 35 years later. Me and Jud spent almost 10 years trying to figure how and who the hell would kill my parents by letting carbon monoxide leak in the house?
I looked at Khyree, who had no emotion on his face, avoiding looking at his own mother. When I heard what Carly did.....to her own son.....? It was painful for me to hear.
I know Judson would be full of sorrow and disappointment. If we had just kept looking for Carly after she told Judson that she lost the baby.......well Khyree would have been raised right.
My brother was in love with Carly, did everything he could to provide for her. And when money was coming in, that's when Carly was the best girlfriend. We didn't see nothing wrong and it didn't matter that Judson was twelve years older than her.
Jud was getting what he thought was love and Carly was getting money to support her habit. A habit we didn't know about.....when we found out, we tried to help her and Carly was doing good for a while at least we thought she was. She fooled us the first time asking my parents for money. Said she was tryna surprise Jud, by going back to school. She was gone for three days. That was when me and my brother saw a bigger problem, when she came high as a kite to the shop one night. Carly's drug problem showed the mental issues, that she was tryna hide from us.
We still tried to help her. Me and Jud tried to keep her problem from our parents. They were well into retirement and didn't need the stress. We just told them not to give her anymore money. Three months later our parents were dead. Carly was the consoling two month pregnant girlfriend and stayed around for about a week or two and hauled ass.
We couldn't find her for shit. Going through our parents stuff, we realized that a lot of moms jewelry was missing, China. Basically, anything that had any valuable.
"Please rise to hear your sentencing." Judge Walters looked over his glasses, watching Carly stand up.
I looked at him. He looked down his sheets of papers.
"In the case of, the State of Massachusetts v. Carly Elina Watts. You are hereby sentenced to 50 years to life, combined, for the aggravated first degree murder, with the use of a toxic chemical, of Gloria Harding and Hendrix Harding. With no possibility of parole."
"For the conspiracy of the murder of DeMarcus Olom, with the use of a minor as an accomplice at said time. You are hereby sentenced to 25 years with no possibility of parole." The judge put the papers down and looked directly at Carly, who still kept her head down. I noticed the lil twitches, but I couldn't feel sorry for her state of mind at the moment.
"Carly.....you have entered an insanity plea, but I can't grant that to you. Just so you don't serve anytime for the crimes you have done. In the midst of your addiction you were still methodical enough to murder two innocent people for your own gain. You used a minor to commit a murder he wanted no part of. Caught by surprise, the gun was released. For what? Protecting a mother who I can really see truly......doesn't care.....?" Again Carly stared in space blankly. Judge Walters took a deep breath in and out, rubbing the bridge of his nose and silently shaking his head.
"If you had some cognitive sense, which I'm sure you did.....you would have given a father his son to provide that parental support a child needs. Instead you used this child as a method of your gateway to continuously get you drugs. You coerced him into believing he would get the affection that is supposed to come from a mother. You continuosly elevated and instigated a situation in which said child was led to a confused and anxious state of mind. That led him to mistakenly fire an armed weapon. Trying to protect you. I cannot accept the plea bargain and your sentencing stands. You will spend your sentencing in a federal mental institute that is in conjunction with Philmont Women State Penitentiary. Is there anything you'd like to say before you're taken into custody?"
