"I want all of you to now turn to Chapter 13, class. In here, you will find the history and myths of the well-known vampire, named Dracula. Now, I want you all to read the descriptions below and differentiate his battle plans between the year 1234 and the year after his wife, Rosemarie Avens, died after a Turk soldier plunged his spear into her heart, thinking that she was a vampire herself." Their History teacher, Professor B, said after writing down the pointers for their exams next week.

Evelyn simply yawned and made herself comfortable, and began to drift into a peaceful slumber. She didn't need to know all these again, after her dad insisted on retelling the stories on what happened before and after Evelyn's mother died. As she slept, a dream of the past occurred to her.

The battle went for a long while, and the hand that Evelyn was holding onto tightened, making her surprised. Her mother looked out the window below, her eyes filled with concern, fear, anger, and longing. Evelyn knew that the cause of her mother being like this was because of her father, who was now fighting through hordes of Turk soldiers, finding the king.

"Mother, father will be all right. All we have to do is pray to the Gods above that he will survive, and to have faith. Trust me on this. Trust father on this." Evelyn gave her hand a little squeeze, making her eyes dart to hers. Her mother's gray eyes twinkled, softening at the same time, as she smiled at Evelyn. Evelyn smiled back.

"Ah, dearest daughter. At times like these, you are very reassuring and comforting, no matter what happens or what may happen." She chuckled, shaking her head. "Indeed, you are much like your father." She hugged her, twisting from side to side, making Evelyn let out a chuckle and hugged back, doing the same.

"Mother," She faced her mother, who was tilting her head at the side, smiling at her. "Are you and father not angry about the decision that I have made? About the..." She blushed, making her cheeks look pink. "About the, ah, suitor of mine?" She waited her mother to disagree on this, but she merely gave a small laugh.

"Dearest, as much as me and your father want to be selfish as possible and not give you away to other men, but alas, we do not have control of your life, now do we? If that is your choice, then we will gladly accept it, just for the sake of pursuing your happiness." Her mother smiled at her with such radiance, Evelyn thought her soul would be sucked out by her mother's angelic face.

A bang from outside the room made both of them jump. Her mother stood up, staring at the door, as if any minute now, someone might swing open the door and kill the both of them.

Her mother quickly backed away, her hands searching for her daughter, who now stood up also, now shielding her mother away from the door. This action made her mother surprised, casting a sweet, heartwarming smile upon her daughter. She placed a hand on her shoulder, causing Evelyn to look. Her mother shooked her head.

"Evelyn, let me have this opportunity to fight for you and for your father for once. It is always that I am, too, frustrated whenever you and your father try to protect me. Am I that fragile enough to not protect the ones I love? I am a grown up woman, so please, do not treat me as if I am a child." She shooked her head. "Really, you are like your father." She sidestepped and instead of Evelyn shielding her, she was now shielding Evelyn.

"Mother, I think it is wise for me to protect you instead of you--"

"No, Evelyn. Let me. It is part of a mother's duty to protect her child from any harm, not the other way around." Even if her mother wasn't looking at her, she knew that she was smiling.
