{ 3 : The year she felt alive, even for a vampire | Year 2006 }
Evelyn didn't want to, but her father insisted in doing so, and she had no choice but to go with him. Rather than going to Universal Studios with her grandparents, again and for the tenth time this year, she just had to go to a place where vampires in movies were usually scared into going one.
A church.
That's right. A white, giant church that was filled with humans who were praying on their knees to a god that Evelyn, nor any of the vampires, never believed in.
Evelyn scowled, looking at every human being around here. "It reeks of human blood. We shouldn't have went here, dad, if we were to avoid a bloodbath."
"Oh, don't be so exaggerating. Besides, we learned how to restrain ourselves from human blood, so why not test it right here?" Her father said, getting a pamphlet of the church.
Evelyn shot daggers at him. "You're pushing my limits here, dad."
Her father did not respond back, as he continued to browse the contents of the pamphlet in curiosity and in fascination. Evelyn mentally groaned to herself and thought how stupid this is, being brought here inside a church.
{A/N: Please note that I am a Catholic, and I am only trying to get into how the character thinks and acts. After all, this is a vampire we're talking about here.}
She scanned her surroundings, the inside of the church. She tried smelling the atmosphere around here, and the church smelled of cement and wet grass. A weird combination of smell, she thought, but nevertheless, Evelyn had to admit that the church was beyond majestic. The church was in a form of a cathedral, and its structure, the statues of angels, the chandeliers hanging from above,it made Evelyn think of the era before. It somehow made her feel like home, where she used to feel safe and sound, with her mother and father, with everyone she had loved.
As her eyes continued to scan from left to right, her eyes happen to just land on someone, someone who she didn't know of. Her eyes stayed to where the mortal man was, never losing sight of where he was going or was doing.
He was in white robes, hands held up in prayer, eyes closed, muttering something under his breath. Evelyn wanted to know what he could have been saying. But alas, he was far away, near to where the table of the priest was.
"Aha!" Her father suddenly exclaimed in a loud whisper, trying not to disturb the other people who were listening to the priest, but succeeded in surprising Evelyn, making her jump in fright. She hadn't noticed her father was still there. With her staring around the church and at the boy from afar, she forgot about her father being there at all.
Her father began to point at the pamphlet, and said, "Look here, Evelyn. Listen to this. Proverbs 30:14 - '[There is] a generation, whose teeth [are as] swords, and their jaw teeth [as] knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from [among] men.' You know what that means?"
Evelyn rolled her eyes. She didn't need to think for any second what that verse meant. "A description about our kind."
"Exactly!" Her father's white teeth showed, and nothing in the description showed off that his teeth were like swords nor his jaw teeth were as knives. They looked perfectly fine, just like any human mortal's teeth would have, just as Evelyn's teeth were. Well, if they had to feed off a prey, then the description would have fit perfectly. "I didn't know they had a verse about us, though. Caught me off guard, actually. I thought that it would only be filled with verses about this god that they were worshipping about."
