Buffy and Michael stepped in front of Patrick's grave. Michael set down a bouquet of white roses on his headstone.
"When the police were done, they ruled his death as a freak accident," he said. "But I had always felt I blamed myself. The funeral was difficult."
"Guilt is not an easy thing to get past."
"But how do you do it? You've dealt with this type of stuff all the time."
"It's hard. You take everything day by day. At least now you have some closure."
"I do. For the first time, I think I do."
Angel sat in a booth at the diner when the same waitress he had saved came out, hesitating.
"Oh, hello," she said from behind the counter.
"Hello," he said, standing up, motioning to the door. "You know, I could just leave."
"No, it's fine."
She held up her hand, motioning him to sit back down.
"It's really not a problem," Angel said, walking.
"No."
Angel stopped and turned, looking back at her.
"He told me about you. I know I don't have to be afraid of you anymore."
Angel stood waiting and wondering what would happen next.
"Here, why don't you pull up a stool?" she said, smiling, extending her hand and offering him a stool. "How about a piece of freshly baked pie?"
"I think I will," Angel said, smiling back.
