(a/n: this chapter is quite the rollercoaster, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless!)

"I'm Ashton by the way." The man told me, taking a seat in the worn out recliner across from the couch.

Judging by his apartment, he was single, and probably had been for quite some time now.

"Christian." I nodded, feeling rather overwhelmed by the events that had recently unfolded just today alone.

"So uh, how'd you and Diesel meet?" Ashton asked casually, leaning back in the recliner.

I watched as he picked a half smoked blunt up from an ashtray that rested on a table directly beside his chair, lighting it as he brought it to his lips. He took a long drag, letting the smoke hit his lungs before he exhaled it all out.

"We met a club." I answered.

The night was still playing in my mind, a fresh memory I knew would be carried with me for the rest of my life.

Ashton nodded, "Was she with anyone?"

What was this guy doing? Interrogating me? Fuck.

"A friend of hers." I answered, noticing the way he raised an eyebrow at my words. "I think his name was, Ace?"

He relaxed in his chair. "Oh. Okay."

I nodded, not knowing what else to say.

"Diesel is an ex-girlfriend of mine." Ashton told me, his voice deepening due to him taking another long hit of the blunt in his hand, talking through the smoke as it spilled past his lips.

My eyes widened at his words. This was her.... ex-boyfriend? Why the fuck was his address still on her ID then..?

"We dated a couple years." He told me, inspecting the blunt. "Sophomore year of high school until the year before last I think?" He said. "I don't know but we've been broken up for a year now."

Oh.. that makes much more sense now then. But why'd they break up..? It was really none of my business but I was genuinely curious as to why anyone would end a relationship with someone as.. nice as Diesel.

"She caught me cheating on her on our three year anniversary." Ashton explained, seeming to have read my curious expression.

I felt my blood heat up as I clenched my fist, everything seeming to become much more clear with the knowledge. Diesel's hurt expression, her insecure demeanor, and the way she just up and left so quickly after I was so sure that she felt the same connection as me. It was all because of him.

Before I could say anything, Ashton's phone buzzed.

I watched as Ashton picked up the phone, reading the message and typing a response.

"Let her know you're here." Ashton told me, looking up from his phone.

It buzzed again.

"Oh fuck.." Ashton muttered.

"What is it?" I asked, shifting in my seat. I was tired of waiting; any longer and I'd probably just pound this guys face in.

"Diesel said she'd be here in ten minutes." He answered.

Fuck. I only had ten minutes to prepare myself? What was I even going to say to her? I wasn't sure..

My head was swimming with thoughts, but they all disappeared when there was a knock on the door.

My heart lept out of my chest as Ashton stood, making his way towards the door. I watched as he opened it, peeking out.

"Oh hey." He said, his tone soft.
