This was the first morning for everyone ever since the darkness descended and the sky turn red, yet the morning was not a welcomed sight like usual. The ghastly parade of monsters caused the group of teenagers and one teacher to hold their breath. They could only tell that it was a new day because of the reddish sky that had replaced the darkness of the night. The sun was still non-existent.

Outside the classroom, Woms, a few Hellhounds, and two Lesser Wraiths moved silently and disappeared one by one beyond the stairs leading up to the rooftop.

Mayu beckoned for everyone to follow from a safe distance. However, although when the very last monster could no longer be seen, she lifted her palm up, signaling for everyone to maintain their silence and to not proceed further.

In this lifetime, she had gained more survivors on her side. However, in her first life, there were people who managed to get out of the building as well. So far, she only had Daiki Fuse as the surviving teacher. In the first lifetime, there were some surviving teachers and Daiki Fuse was not amongst them. Apart from Eiji Ura and Fumihiro Hada, the other students in her current group did not manage to leave the school as well.

The course of fate, these people's fates, hers, had begun to show changes.

She clenched her fists. As soon as she found Lou, Ran, and their comrades, they must not waste time.

When her companions were about to ask what the wait was for, they heard screams from the direction of the rooftop. Everyone immediately paled.

The screams signified that there were survivors already on the rooftop, and all the monsters in the building were there.

The screams soon died down and Mayu cautiously ascended the steps. The door towards the rooftop was already opened. It was an open space area, the only shelter was a janitor's small room that was now already half-razed to the ground.  The monsters were nowhere in sight. However, there were a few people, students and teachers, who were blankly looking at the remainders of their companions' corpses.

Mayu could only deduce the cause of death from the state of the corpses. The screams she heard earlier must be from the ones that had been mauled by Woms and Hellhounds. The ones that had their heads separated from their bodies, were the Lesser Wraiths' work.

The remaining survivors were the ones that had managed to stay quiet despite the horror and were outside the Lesser Wraiths' perception range. Sympathy formed inside her heart: were these people lucky, or unlucky?

Eiji greeted one of the male teachers and exchanged a brief chat. Mayu assumed he was a teacher for the senior students only as neither she, Yumiko, or Daisuke recognized him. Afterwards, he told Mayu that everyone that had survived and waited on the rooftop had awakened their innate traits. Yet still, some of them still fell victims to the monsters.

"Yuri actually had also awakened her [Caritas]." Eiji gritted his teeth, "But there were too many of those things... ."

Mayu did not need to hear further. Even in the future, expert trait users could still die in the hands of monsters if they were not careful. These people had just awakened their traits. Just like a baby that had just realized they could walk but still was not able to walk properly. Yet in this world, and the worlds ahead, no one would wait for these babies to walk. They expected them to run.

Mayu scanned the rooftop once more; no monsters were on sight. She addressed everyone present,

"You have seen where the monsters have gone."

It was not a question, however the others glanced at each other in wariness. The male teacher, who turned out to be a [Patiest], finally spoke, "They... jumped off the edge."
