"I got it all cuz she is the one."

Chapter 38
Two long weeks of planning and baby proofing later, we finally brought Oliver home. Harry was to leave in two days to go back out on tour, and Anne was going to stay with me to help me get used to having a baby around. I was eternally grateful for her help, especially considering I was beginning to freak out.
Everything appeared to be perfect. All sharp edges and glass décor was gone and packed away. The outlets had covers, there was formula and bottles in the kitchen, and a nursery had been prepared. Oliver had a beautiful nursery, designed and styled by Gemma and Anne themselves. Harry’s and my bedroom was cleaned and redecorated, as well as the rest of the house. The transition of Harry’s flat from bachelor pad to family home couldn’t have gone smoother.
Harry drove like a grandpa on the way home from the hospital. Anne and Gemma were in the backseat, cooing at Oliver during the drive. I sat up front with Harry, gently stroking his hand and attempting to calm him. His anxiety was etched all over his face, though I couldn’t quite understand why. So long as he drove carefully (which he was already doing), everything would be fine.
We pulled into the driveway of the flat a few minutes later, and Harry immediately jumped out of the car and threw open the backseat door. Gemma climbed out as annoying slow as she could manage without getting her head ripped off, chuckling all the way. Harry wasted no time in lunging for his son, unbuckling the car seat and whisking him from the car and into the house. Everyone filed in after him.
Oliver had eaten at the hospital and was beginning to grow tired. Harry immediately went up the stairs to the nursery and pulled him from his carrier. He tried to pat his back to calm him into sleep, but Oliver just wasn’t having it. His wary silence became quiet cries and were soon violent screams. Anne stood back, trying to let her son deal with it to learn, but I couldn’t do that. I felt compelled to save my frazzled boyfriend from trying to tame his son in this new environment. The poor baby just needed to sleep. Both of them, actually.
I stepped forward and took Oliver from Harry’s arms, laying him flat on his back and settling into the rocking chair. I rocked and hummed softly for a few minutes, and it wasn’t long before his alert eyes closed and he was soon snoring peacefully. I chuckled and stood gently, not worried about waking him all that much. I settled him into his crib and gently covered him with a blanket. Harry and I then backed from the room and met Anne in the hallway. She looked so proud.
“Congratulations, you two. You’ve done so well so far.”
“Thanks Mum,” Harry smiled. He squeezed her hand and wrapped an arm around my waist. I realized that he was shaking, and he stunk of perspiration. He released me and enveloped her in a tight hug. He then kissed her forehead tenderly. “For everything.”
“Of course, baby,” she smiled. She looked up at her son, tears shining in her eyes. I was puzzled. What’s going on? Why’s everyone so emotional? “I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished, you know that right? This is just another step.”
Harry shot a panicked look in my direction, but he quickly relaxed. That was when I knew something big was going on. And I had absolutely no idea what.
“Lexi,” he said suddenly, taking my hand. “Will you come with me?”
“Of course,” I nodded. I followed him down the stairs and into the kitchen. He stopped right in front of the kitchen sink, which was just below a gorgeous large picture window. At the moment, the beautiful evening sunset shone in, basking the room in a pink and golden haze of color.
Harry turned around, nervously wiping his palms on the lap of his pants. Whatever he’d been anxious about earlier, this was clearly it. But what could it be? I held my tongue, waiting for him to say something. The silence between us was loaded with tension and sweet expectation, but the moment held. I felt that if I didn’t break it, no one would.
“Harry?” I prodded softly. That seemed to snap him out of his trancelike state. He stared into my eyes deeply, his own green ones pools of sincerity.
“Lexi,” he began. “For these past 11 months, you’ve been incredible. You’ve been my rock, my home base, and my shelter from the storm. You’ve kept me grounded and reminded me of everything that I live for. You made me redefine myself and become a better person. You’ve helped me grow up and mature. But most of all, you made me love you. And honestly, that’s the best thing I’ve ever done.
“I knew from the moment I met you that you were special. And you’ve more than met that expectation. I love everything about you, Lex. Everything from your head to your toes, from your laugh to the sound of your voice when you wake up. I could ramble endlessly about the things that I love about you, but words aren’t enough to describe the depth of my feelings. All I can do, all I could ever do, is show you how I feel.” I gasped, tears streaming at his words. And then, to my immense surprise, he dropped to one knee in front of me.
“Alexis Elizabeth Williams, I love you with all my heart and soul. I would be more than honored if you would spend the rest of your life with me. Let me love you and take care of you, baby girl,” he pleaded. He then popped open the ring box, which concealed a stunning diamond ring. Oval in shape and surrounded by dozens of tinier diamonds set on a thin silver band. It was breathtaking, but not half as breathtaking as the beautiful, raw man in front of me. The man I loved with all my heart. “Marry me, please.”
There was no room for anything except shock. And then my tears fell even harder and thick emotion prevented me from speaking. Before either of us knew what was happening, I’d launched myself at him. Soon, we were both lying on the floor, me on top of him as I peppered his face and neck with kisses. He chuckled lightly, the chuckle that I loved of the man that I loved so deeply and completely. I finally found my voice as I met his eyes.
“Yes, Harry, of course I will marry you.”
AND THAT'S ALL FOLKS
