To Catch a Sunset

Chapter 23

Ally and Adam have spent almost an hour walking along the beach and talking about everything. Ally was surprised how much she likes him, either that or she is extremely high. Maybe a little bit of both, either way she was enjoying her time with him, for the first time since she arrived in Virginia she was truly relaxed. "Im starving!" She said with an unstoppable fit of laughter.

"Wow you are really stoned! My brother is going to kill me." She laughed even harder at that remark.

"Well he can't blame you, I'm a grown woman, besides he won't know." Adam now can't stop laughing.

"Yeah he'll never know." He said sardonically.

"Am I that obvious?" She asked. He just rolled his eyes and smiled. "Well maybe we should go and cook for everyone." she suggested. Adam agreed and they walked toward the house.

Ally searched the cabinets searching for ideas on what to cook. As she gathers ingredients and places them on the counter, Adam looks shocked. "Wow what are you planning on cooking? That's a lot of stuff" Ally smiles at him and continues collecting all she needs.

"Look for a casserole dish under there." She says as she points to a cabinet under the island.

"So what are we making?" He asks as he places the casserole dish on the counter top.

" Well we are going to make a breakfast casserole, waffles, bacon and an array of fresh fruit." She says while smelling a banana.

"Ambitious much?"

"Oh Adam this is nothing. Now hush up and crack 6 eggs in that mixing bowl and start beating." She demands playfully.

Mark wakes to the sound of Ally laughing faintly in the distance. He walks to rail and looks down into the kitchen and sees her laughing with Adam. Her happy laugh makes him warm all over, however He can't help but wonder what they are laughing at. He pulls a shirt on and heads downstairs to find out. Ally gives Mark a wide smile as he makes his way towards the kitchen, just the sight of her makes his heart soar. "Hey you, how'd you sleep?" She asks as she walks towards him. He pulls her in for a hug, he leans down and kisses her.

"Not as good as I would if you were there. But pretty good considering." He smiles at her. "So what's going on down here?" He asks as his eyes scan the room.

"Adam and I decided to make everyone breakfast since some people are leaving today. Just throwing a little something together." Mark steps back and examines her face. He is mortified when he realizes she's stoned.

"Adam what the hell did you do?" Ally steps in between them before Mark has a chance to go near Adam.

"Hey he didn't do anything."

" Ally are you stoned?" Mark asks while peering at his brother.

"Yes I did partake in some smoking with your brother, but it was my choice, he didn't force me. So back off him! Ok?" Mark is shocked why on earth would Ally do something like this. He was pretty sure she was against this sort of thing. He gave her a bemused look.

"Ally why did you get high? I didn't know you did that." She smiled at him, she could tell this was all very confusing for him.

"Well I was going to take a run but Adam stopped me and we began to talk. He explained to me why he smokes and I don't know it's just something I haven't done in a long long time and I thought what the hell. What can I say it's been a trying couple of days. I have to say I'm quite relaxed for the first time since we got here." She turns and places the casserole in the oven. He glares at Adam in shock.

"You told her about.." He stops, careful not to say the word cancer out loud. Looking around to make sure no family members are nearby. "The cancer." He says in a whisper.
