I get my heart broken again

When Maya was claimed right after the prophecy, there was no doubt that it was about her. We all stood there for about five minutes stunned. Chiron finally broke the silence, "Maya, step forward this prophecy was destined for you, you will be going on this quest."

"Me?" Maya said quietly, "but I only arrived at camp yesterday."

"Yes, but you are the person the prophecy was addressing and you must carry out the quest. First you must choose the two demigods that will join you, but there are requirements it must a child of Poseidon and one if your half brothers. Do you know of who you would choose?"

"I would like to choose Ailee as the child of Poseidon, if that is okay with her?"

"Ailee, please come forward you have been selected to attend Maya on her quest."

"O-Okay," I stammered. I stepped forward and joined Chiron and Maya in the center of the crowd.

"Now, Maya, which of your brothers are you bringing?"

"I will bring Aspen, because he is the only one I have met." Maya said.

"Ah, Aspen, he is a good choice, as he has much experience."

Aspen stepped forward from the crowd, not with a proud smile on his face like I expected, but instead a grim look on his face.

"These will be our questers, any objections?" Chiron asked.

No one objected, which surprised me, as I expected this to be a huge honor someone would want to be a part of, but something told me this quest was different, that the prophecy was bigger, more crucial, and no one really wanted to be faced with this responsibility.

After everyone had cleared from the field except Maya, Aspen and I, I turned to Aspen and asked, "I thought you would be more excited, I mean you have experience, shouldn't you know what you're doing or something?"

"No, not really, didn't you listen to the prophecy? 'If we fail we shall not be,' I personally find that a little scary."The way he said it made me believe him, he was scared I could see it in his eyes and something about the way he said it showed he was really stressed. I suddenly got really scared, I wanted to walk up to Aspen and bury my face in his shirt and cry, gods Ailee why do you keep thinking like that, all love does is bring you heartbreak.

It was decided that we would live next week, so we would have a little more training, and so we could figure out what the plan was. We were supposed to be having a meeting tomorrow with all the cabin counselors, Chiron, and Mr.D, to discuss the quest.

As I returned to my cabin that night, I was more terrified than early, but all I could think about was Aspen. I was thinking about him and how kind he had been to me since I came to camp, and the way I felt about him, and the way his eye twitched when he was tired and how he bit his lip when he was nervous, how he would tap his fingers when things got tense, how he was always singing some song, and and how cute he looked when he was treating his patients in the infirmary and, and... Gods Ailee what is with you? Stop! You are getting carried away.

After laying in my bed thinking about him, and not able to get him off my mind, I decided I was going to talk to Aspen and tell him how I felt tomorrow. I decided that was the best way, it would help me to get it off my chest, and it would also help me to know what he thinks of me.

The next morning I was woken by a bucket of water I was not expecting. It did not affect me much, just woke me up, but still I was not expecting it.

"AZALEA, WHAT THE HADES WAS THAT FOR?"

"I'm sorry Ailee, but we have been trying to wake you for the last hour, but you wouldn't wake up, we tried everything: blasting Shake it off, yelling, shaking you, threatening you, shoving Ashers underwear in your mouth-"

"YOU WHAT?" I yelled, "ASHER' S UNDERWEAR?"

"don't worry they were clean." Azalea said, I was about to interrupt but she stopped me."No matter what we tried nothing happened so we went to extensive measures."

"Whatever..... just next time skip the underwear."

I got up and quickly got dressed and we headed over to the dining pavilion. After we had eaten dinner I searched for Aspen. You are going to tell him, and then you are going to stop obsessing over him. Instead of finding him he found me. He was walking my way with two other people, a girl who looked about my age and a boy who was surrounded by... baby chickens.... little tiny birds surrounded him.

Aspen walked up to me. "Hi."

"Hi, and who are these,?"

"Well this is Shane Danner. He is a chick magnet."

"A chick magnet," I asked. I looked over him he was short and stubby. He had muddy brown hair, thick eyebrows and small squinty eyes. He was NOT very visually pleasing and I did not understand how he was a chick magnet.

"A literal chick magnet, he attracts chicks, like baby chickens, don't ask how or why, we really don't know."

"Oookay then, hi I am Ailee." I said to Shane.

"Hi," he replied.

"And she is?" I asked, pointing toward the girl. She was a small and delicate girl, she was beautiful. She flowing auburn hair, blue eyes, pale skin, dark lips, and high cheekbones.

"This is Amethyst Pallay, daughter of Aphrodite."

"Hi I am Ailee,"

"Hi Ailee!" She said politely.

Go ahead Ailee tell him how you feel.

"As-" I was cut off by Aspen.

"Amethyst, Amy, is my girlfriend. Oh, sorry, I think I interrupted you, what were you going to say?"

"Nothing..."

The second he said she was his girlfriend, I could hear my heart stop in place and then felt all kinds of emotion at once: dread, anger, sadness, pain, jealousy and over all love. I felt horrible having let myself fall for him, and only in a few days, I told myself not to, I had already felt the result of love once and was now having my heart broken again. Why did I have to be such an idiot? How did I nit expect this?Aspen, has been at camp for 5 years, he is skilled, good looking and kind, I bet there is a Aspen waiting list.

My thoughts were soon interrupted by Aspen, "Amethyst is going to come on the quest with us, because she knows what Rachel was talking about when she said the land of forgotten souls, there is a place near her old home which she suspects has something to do with it and she will guide us there. I already talked to Chiron and he agreed, even though three is the typical amount of questors he made an exception."
