Ring! Ring! Ring! I wake up and shut the alarm clock off. I shuffle into the kitchen and take out half of the pizza from the box and put it in the oven then I walk into my bathroom and start to shower. When I am done showering I walk into the kitchen and without thinking I take out the hot pizza pan and burn myself great.
I put the pizza into a plastic plate and take a water bottle out of my fridge and I start to eat while walking to my car. When I reach my car I am already done with the pizza so I dump my plate into a trash can that is in front of the parking lot.
I start my car and I start thinking about how much time I have left till the end, why am I making friends, and why did I agree to meet Ji Wu. I don't know but I know I won't be able to save everyone.
When I reach the building I walk in and I see Dr.Chang talking to the receptionist and I hear him say "If it doesn't pass the test burn it" I take one step back feeling uncomfortable about listening to their conversations.
I then walk in front of him to try and get in but he starts talking to me "Did you have a good morning" I nod my head and say "yes I did" I meant to end it here but he started to stare at my finger so I continue and say "but unfortunately I burnt my finger a bit" he says "oh you did wouldn't it be so much better if we as humans was immune to fire, never aged, could regrow certain body parts on are body that would be great wouldn't it."
He continues with "We was just talking about a prime specimen and how some parts of it already resembles things I think of but unfortunately the poor animal became extinct" I nod my head not knowing how the conversation ended up here and I wonder if he knows I heard part of his conversation but before I can say anything to him he states " you can go now I'll see you in class" and with that I scurried away to class.
When he walks in he immediately starts the lesson thank goodness I already took out everything I need. He starts with " Today's main subject is Sutures and Stitches.
Sutures are used by doctors to close wounds to your skin or other tissues. When the doctor sutures a wound, they’ll use a needle attached to a length of “thread” to stitch the wound shut.
There are a variety of available materials that can be used for suturing. If you are ever in a stiutation that you have to use this infomation you will need to know that you will need to choose materials that are appropriate for the wound or procedure you need to use it in.
Types of sutures
Suture material can be classified as either absorbable or nonabsorbable.Absorbable sutures don’t require someone to remove them. This is because enzymes found in the tissues of your body naturally digest them.Nonabsorbable sutures will need to be removed by someone at a later date or in some cases left in permanently.
The suture material can be classified according to the actual structure of the material. Monofilament sutures consist of a single thread. This allows the suture to easily pass through tissues. Braided sutures consist of several small threads braided together. This can lead to better security, but at the cost of increased potential for infection.
Sutures can be classified as either being made from natural or synthetic material. However, since all suture material is sterilized, this distinction is not particularly useful.
Gut. This natural monofilament suture is used for repairing internal soft tissue wounds or lacerations. Gut shouldn’t be used for cardiovascular or neurological procedures. The body has a stronge reaction to this type of suture . It’s not commonly used outside of gynecological surgery.Polydioxanone (PDS). This synthetic monofilament suture can be used for many types of soft tissue wound repair and for pediatric cardiac procedures it is used for general use in soft tissue repair. This material shouldn’t be used for cardiovascular or neurological procedures. This suture is most commonly used to close skin in an invisible manner.
Types of nonabsorbable sutures
Nylon. A natural monofilament suture.Polypropylene it is a synthetic monofilament suture.Silk a braided natural suture.Polyester a braided synthetic suture.
Sutures vs. stitches
You’ll often see sutures and stitches referred to interchangeably. It’s important to note that “suture” is the name for the actual medical device used to repair the wound. The stitching is the technique used by someone to close the wound.
Suture selection and techniques
Suture material is graded according to the diameter of the suture strand. The grading system uses the letter “O” preceded by a number to indicate material diameter. The higher the number, the smaller the diameter of the suture strand.
Suture material is also attached to a needle. The needle can be of various sizes and also have a cutting or noncutting edge. Larger needles can close more tissue with each stitch while smaller needles are more likely to reduce scarring.
There are many suture techniques in the world but today I will tell only some because we have a time limit.
Continuous sutures involves a series of stitches that use a single strand of suture material. This type of suture can be placed rapidly and is also strong, since tension is distributed evenly throughout the continuous suture strand.
Interrupted sutures it uses several strands of suture material to close the wound. After a stitch is made, the material is cut and tied off. This technique leads to a securely closed wound. If one of the stitches breaks, the remainder of the stitches will still hold the wound together.
Deep sutures it is placed under the layers of tissue below (deep) to the skin. They may either be continuous or interrupted. This stitch is often used to close fascial layers.
Buried sutures it is applied so that the suture knot is found inside (that is, under or within the area that is to be closed off). This type of suture is typically not removed and is useful when large sutures are used deeper in the body.
Purse-string sutures are a type of continuous suture that is placed around an area and tightened much like the drawstring on a bag. For example, this type of suture would be used in your intestines in order to secure an intestinal stapling device.
Suture removal
When the sutures are removed will depend on where they are on the body. Some general guidelines are
scalp: 7 to 10 daysface: 3 to 5 dayschest or trunk: 10 to 14 daysarms: 7 to 10 dayslegs: 10 to 14 dayshands or feet: 10 to 14 dayspalms of hands or soles of feet: 14 to 21 days
To remove sutures, you will first sterilize the area. Then pick up one end the suture and cut it, trying to stay as close to the skin as possible. Then, gently pull out the suture strand."
After Mr.Chang finshed speaking he turned around and said "I guess everyone but you decided to fall asleep" he questioned me before I could resond to what he said "Do you think the lesson was boring" I respond with "No Sir I think they might have been tired"
He nods his head and then looks at me for five seconds and then says "you are a really smart girl" then he walks out the room. I turn to my left and I wake up Xiao Lin and she lifts her face up and all I see is drool on her face so I start laughing and she hits me and says "Where is Mr.Chang" I then say "Class is over with already everyone in here except for me fell asleep" She then yells "What oh no the notes I don't know why I took this class" I rub her head and then say "everything is going to be alright I already took a picture of my notes and it sent it to you okay I got to go now I have something to do"
She nods her head and I pick up my things to head out and notice everyone is up I guess her yelling woke them up. As I start my car I think of what I need to do Akari asked me to water her plants and then I need to work out then sleep early because tommorow in class we are finally doing something I am excited for taking out bullets.
