"WILL YOU CAN'T RIDE your bike, it's pouring cats and dogs out there-" Mike thought he heard Max say, but he was on his feet, chasing Will (while yelling something about having to put Holly to sleep).
While he ran upstairs the image of Will's face when he heard about Jane stayed in his mind. He could literally see Will's heart breaking, and every second the image stayed in his mind Mike felt his heart break too.
"Will! wait!" he yelled, chasing him outside.
Will stood shivering in the rain, having forgotten his coat downstairs, struggling to untie his bike. When he heard Mike's voice he turned around and ran to him, proceeding to pull him down and kiss him ferociously on the mouth.
There was nothing romantic about this kiss, it was a kiss of sheer panic.
Mike was surprised.
Will was never the one to kiss first, and he never kissed with this force...
Then Will pulled away and shakily tried to remove his shirt.
"Will, stop! what are you doing?" Mike called, almost scared, and grabbed Will's hand to stop him. Will looked up at him, his hazel eyes burning with a crazy, panicked light.
"You want to have sex don't you? That's why you're leaving me!" he called, his trembling hands trying to unsuccessfully unzip his pants. and that's when Mike's heart broke in two.He had pushed Will to this. He couldn't let Will go through this any longer, no matter how much it hurt him to have to let him go.
"NO! Will, just stop it!" Mike said, pushing Will's hands to his sides.
"Then what? what did I do wrong? Why are you leaving me?" Will said desperately.Mike didn't know what to say. He had cheated on this boy, and here he was asking what he did wrong.
"Because I'm not like you, Will!" the words slipped out of his mouth before he had a chance to stop them."What do you mean, not like me?" Will asked quietly, having lost all his weird, crazy burst of energy.even completely wet he was beautiful. It wasn't making what Mike was about to do easier...
"I don't love you Will!" I can't love you if I want a chance in life, he added silently. He hated himself for saying these words, but he knew they were the only things Will couldn't argue about. If he had thought the look from before was heartbreaking... the light in Will's eyes, crazy as it was, went completely out.
The beautiful hazel eyes were nothing more then glass balls, staring at Mike without expression.
"You- you promised you'd be there for me," The short boy breathed out."I am here for you, always! I'm still your best friend! I just can't be with you that way." Mike said, grabbing Will's hands, but he shook them off.
"you promised you'd be there for me-" Will repeated without emotion, his glossy eyes burning with tears this time. He turned away from Mike, and this time managing to untie his bike. All the while, Mike heard him repeat the words. over and over again. like a broken record.
He was really freaking Mike out.
"Will, come back inside, We can work this through-" Mike tried. Will climbed on his bike, staring at Mike. His eyes weren't visible through the thick vale of tears in them."No." He yelled, his voice determined and decisive. He stared at Mike one last time, and rode off into the freezing rain.
Mike stood there, barley keeping himself together. He couldn't run after Will. He couldn't go back inside.
He just stood and let the rain wash over him, thinking about the grim mistake he had just made.
