Chapter Three
Deacon could sense something was amiss; he could taste it in the air. He shut his eyes and focused on everyone's thoughts around him, and he found something worth listening to.
"Kayles Pack!" a masculine voice called out, "Tonight, we have our revenge!! The Shadow Clan shall PAY for what they did to my son two years ago on this night!!" Deacon could hear faint howls of agreement and battle cries. Not bothering to listen to the rest, he dashed up to his parents' room and burst through the door.
"Father, Mother, we must go. Now," he said, quickly grabbing their frail hands and pulling downstairs.
"What's going on?" his mother, Caroline, worriedly asked of her son.
"We're going to be attacked. We don't have much time. We have to get to out allies, the Simmons Pack," Deacon replied quickly, pulling out of the driveway in his 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLS. His parents were squished together in the passenger seat without the seatbelt on. As he sped down the road, Deacon again concentrated on the Kayles Pack leader's telepathic conversation.
"Sir, they're driving northeast, towards Maples Drive. Should we stop them?"
"No, let them go. We shall let them TRY to escape, but they won't. Trust me."
"But, sir-"
"No buts!! Let them go!! It is part of the plan!!"
"Sir, the plan was to kill the Alpha and the High Family at their home. If they get away-"
"I. Don't. Care. Let them go."
"Sir, they're heading for the Simmons Pack home. They're allies."
"STOP THEM!!"
Just as Deacon sped into the Simmons territory, the booming command echoed in his mind. He snickered and pulled up to the Pack house, jumping out of the car as his parents slowly made their way to the front door. Old people... You can never get them to go fast.
Deacon pounded on the door with both fists. The wood chipped off with each bump, the power making a dent. Kat sleepily whipped the door open and, without a hesitation, slammed the door in his face. Shock registered in his features for a millisecond, then immediately turned into anger. He wrenched the door open and stormed inside, creating a cacophony that echoes through the walls.
Kris rushed downstairs looking ready to shift and rip out a throat. His features softened at the recognition of his long-time allies and his daughter's mate.
"Alpha Kris," Deacon said with a respectful nod of his head.
"Alpha Deacon. May I ask why you have come at such a late hour?"
"There is a problem. Kayles Pack."
At the sound of the name, pain and woe crossed Kat's face, but was easily replaced with an emotionless mask.
"What is the issue?" she demanded.
"They have planned an attack on Shadow Clan; to kill my mother and father. Me as well," Deacon said.
"And you have come to seek our help?" asked Alpha Kris.
"Yes. We were hoping you would be able to help us fight them off should they attack us, if it isn't to much to ask."
"No, no. It isn't a trouble. Merely a speck on our windshield of troub-"
"Dad, lame metaphor." Kat rolled her eyes in annoyance, then her gaze was again fixed upon her mate.
Deacon let out a small laugh, which he covered up with a cough. He continued, "Thank you, Alpha Kris. Should I call my Clan and tell them to meet here?"
"Yea- Yes, that would be good, Deacon. Come, I have a phone in my room," Kat said, motioning for him to follow her upstairs.
The door clicked shut behind them, and taking a seat on Kat's bed, they both let out breaths they hadn't known they were holding.
"Deacon, I'm so sorry about this. This whole revenge thing is their way of getting back at me for breaking up with Marten," Kat sighed.
"No, i-it's my fault. Kat, the Shadow Clan... They killed Nathan Kayles. This revenge is MY clan's fault. They didn't stop them, and they were in a rage, and they-"
Kat silenced Deacon's rambling with her lips. She gently, but quickly, pressed them against his, savoring every second. He tasted like the best strawberry milkshake, and damn right, it's better than yours[A/N: A lame reference to Milkshake by Kelis...]. She pulled away reluctantly, and Deacon's face was so surprised that she let out a small giggle.
"Why-"
"You wouldn't shut up, so I took away your breath so you won't talk anymore," Kat said jokingly.
"Then I should talk WAY more often!!"
"ANYWAYS, Deacon, I don't care about what your clan did in the past. What happened, happened. We can't change that. But what we CAN do is-"
"Please tell me you're going to say..."
"-think about what to do now in this situation," she finished, ignoring his comment.
"But that's no fun..." Deacon whined.
"Deacon, fun later. Thinking now. Call your Omega and your strongest fighters. Tell them to get here NOW and get the children and pregnant women to safety in the hills. You and I will get them there, and Dad will work on the battle."
Without a second's hesitation, he quickly dialed his best friend since Shadow Clan had no Omega.
"Uhhh... Hullooo?" a sleepy, half drunk voice answered.
"Aaron, get over to the Simmons Pack house with Shadow Clan. All of them," Deacon demanded.
"Why? What's wrong?" Aaron asked, alarm showing in his voice.
"Kayles Pack. They're going to attack. And soon. Get here in no less than thirty minutes."
"Thirty-"
"Just do it!! Bye," Deacon said impatiently, slamming the phone back onto the receiver.
"Now... Fun?" Deacon pleaded to Kat with his eyes.
"Oh, sure..."
