Amara Winters' POV
I made Harry feel comfortable enough to really be himself. That's why he trusted me. That's why he acted so different around other people than when he was with me. He actually was a good-hearted man, but you just had to break through that wall of protection that prevented him from getting hurt, but also from trusting other people and seeing the good in them.Harry and I had finished that day of work without any calls about the case or for help with arresting criminals. We just spent the day going over the information we had and looked at the files on the flash drive. It turned out that the victims weren't killed by the stab wounds or the falls some had taken. They were poisoned, and Harry and I had our suspicions of where the poison could've been.
"Don't be nervous okay, my sister and mum are really nice. They're the nicest people you'll ever meet, so don't feel nervous." Harry rambled and I raised my eyebrows, realizing that he, for some reason, was more nervous than I was. I felt pretty relaxed, but Harry was bouncing his leg up and down, checking the rearview mirror every five seconds and glancing at me every other five seconds.
"Harry, calm down, I don't know why you're nervous, but I feel pretty relaxed. From what I've heard, your family seems great, so don't stress out. They're probably amazing." I smiled and Harry weakly smiled back before continuing to repeat his nervous habits. I rolled my eyes and just waited until we reached the house.
"Okay," Harry sighed deeply, "we're here." He said and he hesitantly stepped out of the car. I grinned at his adorable nervousness and followed his actions, stepping out of the car as well. Harry walked up to the front porch and rang the doorbell, nervously clasping his hands together in front of him. Seconds later the door opened and a gorgeous young woman opened the door.
"Harry!" She squealed before jumping into his arms and squeezing him tightly. Harry hugged her back and nuzzled his head into her neck before quickly pulling out of the hug, glancing at me and clearing his throat. I chuckled on the inside and a huge grin was spread on my face.
"Harry, why don't you introduce me to your friend. The young woman said, wiggling her eyebrows and making Harry groan.
"This is Amara, my partner at the police station, we're working on a case together." He quickly said and the woman raised her eyebrows.
"You sure it's just work-related?" She smirked before turning to me, "hi I'm Gemma, Harry's older sister." She stuck her hand out and I gratefully shook it, introducing myself shortly before getting cut off by another female voice.
"Did I just hear Harry?! Sorry I was in the bathroom!" The woman, to whom the voice belonged, rushed towards us and hugged Harry tightly. She ruffled his curly hair and he huffed before trying to get it back in its previous state. It was quite ironic actually.
"Hi, you must be Harry's... girlfriend." She winked at me before Harry's deep voice whined a long: "Muuuuum." I grinned along with the older woman, trying to hold my laughter in.
"She's my work partner and a friend." He said in an annoyed tone.
"Oh I know honey, I was just messing with you." She said before leading us all to the living room of the cozy house. I immediately felt a strange feeling of safety. It was nothing to what I was used to from my youthful days. I never really had that 'home-family' feeling. Until now, right now I just felt like this was where I was meant to be. With these people, these amazingly kind and funny people. They had a sudden warmth radiating off them that made me feel at ease. Now I understood what Harry said about feeling comfortable enough to really be himself. But imagining that I gave him the same feeling made a blush creep to my cheeks.
I knew I shouldn't feel this way... but I did.
