Running Laps

Peter Parker was in gym class, bored out of his mind. The class was running laps around the perimeter of the gym in practice for the state testing that would soon be coming up.

One might wonder why anybody could be bored while running laps, as the repetitive motion and rhythm usually keeps the mind focused.

However, that's not the case for Peter. See, for those of you who didn't know, Peter has a very big secret; an alter-ego by the name of Spiderman.

This alter-ego had superhuman powers that carried over to his other personality, regular Peter Parker. And, his Spider-man persona granted him access to the Avengers' various training rooms, although he wasn't technically an Avenger himself - confusing, I know.

So, these laps were nothing to him. He was used to swinging and sometimes running around Queens most days of the week, and to top it off training with the Avengers multiple times a week.

Nobody except for Ned knew that he was Spider-Man, so he obviously couldn't run his normal speed, which would of course have him lap his classmates multiple times over. That made it so Peter always kept to the back of the class, letting the world think that he was just a weak-ish nerd, rather than a ripped superhero who could bench press more than the entire class's body weight combined.

Well, that was what usually happened.

See, this fateful day, Peter had pulled an all-nighter studying for the big chapter test in science. That made it so he was much less aware of what was going on than normal, and at this moment, his 10 cups of coffee were starting to wear off.

He slowly started passing the other students in their class, gaining in speed the further he ran. He wasn't thinking of maintaining his nerd image anymore, but mentally looking over the program for a new AI he was designing.

At last, he pulled ahead of Abe, the fastest in the class. He continued to gain in speed, until he came back around, lapping the class.

His mind was distracted but his feet kept moving, short staccato bursts of thumps.

Peter was brought sharply back to reality when their teacher whistled loudly, and everybody slowed to a stop.

He turned around to see the teacher staring at him.

"I didn't know you could run so fast, Parker!" He said, smiling at him, while still looking perplexed.

Peter turned around again and saw his whole class staring at him in shock, and said only one thing; "Oops."
