If you happened to be passing a particular street of a particular little village, and you glanced into the window of a particular house, a thoroughly adorable scene would unfold before your eyes. A small child with light brown, wavy hair adorning his head and freckles spilling over his cheeks, who couldn't have been older that six, was running straight towards a short middle aged woman, definitely his mother, with a sheet of paper in a hand and a couple coloured crayons in the other.
"Mummy! Mummy!" The woman's head turned around instantly and the child immediately tackled her into a hug startling her a little. "Hello dear! I thought you were out playing with Daddy and Flash?" She asked, her face lighting up at the thought of her husband. "I was, but then I thought of something to write a poem about, so I went to my room...and the idea had disappeared from my head!-" at that, the child frowned, but then continued "-Oh! And I also wanted to ask you about this!" He stretched out his left palm, where his skin was covered in black.
"Why, dear! That's your Soul-mark! It's what will help you find your soulmate!" The child's face twisted into a confused expression, and the woman's smile grew bigger. "Patton dear, do you know what a Soulmate is?" The boy called Patton energetically shook his head and looked up at his mother expectantly. "Well, a Soulmate is...That person who loves you no matter what. Our Soulmates are the closest thing we have to magic. The pull us out of the water if we're drowning down, and if we're already up, they'll help us soar even higher. Your Soulmate is your other half, and they'll make your life so much better."
"That's so amazing Mummy! When am I gonna meet them?!" As he asked this question, Patton was beaming. His mother answered sweetly. "We can't be sure, dear, but when it happens, you'll know..." At this the child giggled but then turned serious again. "H-how do I know who my Soulmate is?!" The woman's expression grew softer every second. She really adored her son.
"Well, when you touch your Soulmate, or they touch you for the first time, both your marks disappear! For example, like in your case dear, having a mark on your palm could mean you are going to meet your Soulmate by putting your hand on their shoulder, or cheek, or arm, and many more!" Patton beamed. "Where was your mark mommy!?" That instant, a fairly handsome middle aged man entered that particular room, with an honest smile on his worn face. "Well, young man, both me and your mummy had our soul-mark on our palms. It happened like this-" He pulled up his son and placed him on his shoulders "-The school we both went to had a dance, and as soon as I entered the hall, I saw the most beautiful woman to ever exist sitting over towards the drinks table-" "David!" "Oh, admit it, honey! You were stunning! Of course, I immediately asked her for a dance, stretching out my right hand to take her left. When she acquiesced, I was over the moon. She saw it and grabbed my hand. I'll never forget the fuzzy feeling inside me when she did. I glanced at my mark...but saw nothing! It had disappeared! Poof!"
He tickled his son, who giggled, and put him back on the ground while he exclaimed "I want to meet my Soulmate! It sounds magical! And I promise I'll always make them feel special!" smiling contagiously.
The couple smiled, and both said "We're sure you will, dear."
