The day after they received the invitation to Janus' party, Roman thought he'd go visit a friend of his.
As he passed through the front door, he didn't even have time to speak a single word, that Patton trapped him into a loving bear hug. "Hey Ro! What's up!?". Roman took a second to respond, he needed to recover from the bone crushing embrace, and then replied "I'm great, Padre! You?". The shorter one smiled and energetically nodded and exclaimed brightly:
"I'm feelin' awesome!"
They climbed up the stairs and entered Patton's room. "So,-" said the princely one excitedly, "-Someone's in a good mood! Something happen?" At this, Patton threw himself onto bed and fell face first into the pillow.
When he replied his voice was muffled by the fabric, but the excitement it contained before was still present. "You know that short story I wrote last month? Well, Miss Wormwood, the librarian, read it and talked to the principal and they might actually print it! Make it a proper book!" At this point Patton was practically glowing with happiness, and Roman couldn't help but grin.
"Well, maybe you yourself should go talk to, what was it? Miss Wormwood! I'm sure she'd like to meet you, and you love the library!" he suggested. "Oh, and if you don't mind, you could take back that book I borrowed a couple weeks ago..." The boy in the light blue t-shirt's expression turned from ecstatic to slightly confused when he heard his friend mention his sister Marianne. "But- I thought you said that in the end you didn't read it?"
Roman let our an embarrassed laugh. "Well yeah, I didn't...But I needed to sum it up for school so I asked Mari to read it and then write a quick synopsis..."
Patton looked surprised. "Your sister never seemed like the type of person to, you know, help people in that way?" Roman's feet shifted and he sat next to the other's laid-down figure. "Well, Rem had the same type of homework, I suppose, and she was particularly mad at him, so she essentially helped me just to avoid help him..."
Patton's confusion dying down, he asked, "Oh, and why was sh-"
Roman sighed, cutting off his companion. "He 'accidentally' reminded her about her lack of Soul-mark...Because, well, you know she was born without one, right?".
A nod of acknowledgement sent his way, Roman and wriggled his fingers in his lap. The bubbly boy had heard from about Marianne's lack of soul-mark a couple years after knowing Roman, and saw soon enough that she was always reluctant to talk about it and constantly avoided people when they asked her about Soulmates, and similar things.
The two friends spent the afternoon just hanging out, doing nothing in particular.
Meanwhile, a tall, almost lanky boy in a blue polo shirt, black shoes and dark jeans, with a rather solemn-looking tie around his neck and black, metal+P-framed glasses was trying hard to study in his room, ignoring the loud distractions coming from downstairs and the back yard.
Keyword, "trying".
In addition to the already present annoyances that were disrupting his alone-time, he himself couldn't keep his eyes off of the medium-sized soul-mark sitting permanently on his arm. No matter how hard he tried to make them leave, the questions kept wondering around his brain.
'Who is it going to be?'
'When am I going to meet them?'
'What will they look like?'
Soon, he came to the conclusion that 'studying' like that wasn't going to be at all productive, he grumpily stuffed away his books back on the shelf and decided he would attempt to study again tomorrow, but this time, at the local library.
It was a simple place, charming in its own way, of course, but the fact still remained that it was indeed a small-ish library, ran by an elderly woman called Miss Wormwood. A mostly uneventful place, where, Logan was sure, nothing significant would happen to him.
