Setting the Trap

Unknown POV (Not the mystery person)

I scanned the crowd around me. I don't know why they hired me, but they did. I was notoriously known throughout the black market as a planner, a deceiver. I always got the job done.

I pretended to scroll on my phone, heading towards the location where they needed me. I crouched in front of two identical warehouses with big, sturdy brown doors. I thought of the people that were going to come here, planning and making predictions. I set down my tools and got to work.

After half an hour passed, I looked down on my work proudly. My gaze drifted towards the other warehouse. What if my predictions were wrong? I laughed it off, smiling evilly. I never failed.

As I said, I always get the job done.

Dante's POV

The twins were getting along. Finally. I had trouble wrapping my mind around that they were twins. They were nothing alike.

I stole glances at the Megalodon tooth. If it really was a prehistoric version of GPS, I wonder where it would take us. Dari kept looking at her non-existent watch, tapping her foot.

"Guys," Dari said. "As much as I would love to learn about science or whatnot, we're wasting time here."

Morgana glared at her (how does she do it?). "I would hate to admit it, but Dari's right. We really need to get going." Morgana turned in my direction, her misty eyes focusing on me. "Right, Dante?"

I shifted uncomfortably. Why ask me? "Uh..." Morgana glared at me. "YES! We HAVE to get going."

Ahren looked up at us. "Oh, alright." Faren examined the tooth in her hands.

"Here," she said, shoving it into Ahren's hand. "You're more careful than I am."

Ahren brightened. "Really? If you say so!"

Faren rolled her eyes. "You know what, who am I kidding. Give the tooth back, you hen."

I watched the siblings bicker. My thoughts wandered to the dream I had when I was aware of my consciousness. Now that I know that gods existed, I'm pretty sure that brown-haired lady is Athena. The mean one must've been Hera. I've already forgotten who else was there. Could Athena be my mom? Or Aphrodite? Or someone?

I mean, it must be someone. I can't just have appeared out of nowhere, could I? Oh my gods. What if I was a spirit? Or one of the god's ideas gone wrong?  Actually, the last one is plausible.  I looked up at the sky, wondering if yelling was going to make them reveal my godly parent.

Then I realized that we didn't do something that's very important.  "Guys.  We need a group name!"  Everyone turned to look at me, besides Morgana, who looked like she was arguing with herself.

"Do we have to?" Dari said with disgust.  "Don't make it horrible."

Ahren tapped his chin.  "Hmmm... I don't know.  How about... The Heroic Five?"

"No," Dari deadpanned.

"The Totally Awesome Demigods?"

"No."

"The Five Idiots?" Faren suggested.

"No!  Gods, you guys are horrible."

"Us, or the gods?" I joked.

Ahren thought for a minute.  "How about the Demiheroes?"  I heard a snort and turned around.  There was no one there.

Dari was quick to intervene.  "No - er, uh.  Huh, that's actually good!"

Morgana sighed.  "Demiheroes it is."  No one questioned how she spat out the "heroes".  Instead, they were asking this:

"Hey, where did Faren go?" Ahren asked.  I looked around in bewilderment.  Where did she go?  Suddenly she appeared again, an annoyed expression on her face.

"Idiots," she muttered.  "Come on, didn't you guys say we were wasting time?"

We hurried up with her.  If this was a pack, she was definitely the alpha.  We followed her down the street and through a meadow until we stopped at two warehouses.

"Which one do we go through?" I asked.

Ahren shrugged.  "We should split up."

We split up.  I was with Ahren and Morgana while Dari was with Faren.

"Oh look!" Dari singsonged.  "The smart people are in a group!"

"I know," Ahren said, looking at Morgana and me.  Faren rolled her eyes and began walking to a warehouse.  Our group walked towards the other warehouse.

Both of our groups unbeknownst to the danger facing us.

Back to the Unknown POV

I watched as the two groups went near the warehouses.  Perfect.   Both were triggered somehow, whether it was a light scare or intended to do some damage.

Everything was just perfect.

Third Person

Faren felt her hands clam up.  This feeling of doom washed over her.  She put her hand on the door and prepared to open the doors.

Ahren put his hand on the door also.  He glanced back at his friends, giving Morgana a small smile even though he knew she couldn't see him.

Then, at the same time, they pushed open the doors.
