Chapter 27

(Warning: graphic descriptions of blood/gore {I mean it's a hospital so yeah-})

Sayori hummed as she took off her gloves, another successful operation she had perfectly assisted.

"Send out another one!" A voice said.

"We can't, man! All the ambulances are being used from that 54th fire!" Another voice argued.

Sayori felt her blood run cold, gulping.

This hospital was about to have a lot of patients if it was as bad as she heard.

"What happened?" She asked, walking over to the two EMTs.

They both looked away, refusing to meet her eyes.

"How bad was that fire?" Sayori asked as the first ambulance arrived.

"Send that one back out! Motor bike crash, Lincoln Street intersection!" The first man yelled.

Three gurneys were rushed from the vehicle and into the emergency wing.

Sayori glanced to see an elderly couple and a young black woman looking in her mid twenties, all bleeding slightly from the face.

"And these people were only on the third floor..." someone said softly, shaking their head sadly.

Sayori gulped, putting on a fresh pair of gloves.

She wouldn't admit it out loud, but these types of situations made her scared beyond belief.

The second ambulance arrived as the EMT from before held Sayori back.

Sayori was confused until she saw her wife in one of the gurneys, her eyes widening as they teared up.

"M-Monika! Moni!" Sayori screamed, her heart feeling like it was being stabbed repeatedly.

"Sayori, listen! She's in critical condition! Do you really want to be in that room if something happens?!" The man reasoned as Sayori thrashed around in her arms.

"I-I can't just stand here!" Sayori whimpered as Monika was urged into the operating room.

"W-What... W-Why is she going in there?! What is wrong with my wife?!" Sayori screamed bloody murder.

The staff all gave her sympathetic looks as the man lost his grip.

Sayori burst through the doors into the room, sobbing as she saw her lover covered in blood and flame scars.

"Park! Get out of here!" The doctor commanded.

"She's my wife, dammit!" Sayori sobbed.

She rushed over and looked at her, wanting to scream at the sight as she bit so hard that her tongue began bleeding slightly.

The doctor took some tweezers and extracted the thin piece of metal, placing it on a tray.

"Liver impacted directly... Internal bleeding... Fifty-fifty chance..." the doctor said, his voice sounding light years away to Sayori as she only caught bits of his words.

"Get her out of these clothes already, dammit! There's probably more burns underneath!" Sayori wailed, startling the other nurses.

"Mrs. Park, the clothes have fused with the outer layer of skin... We can't take them off of her without damaging her skin tissue." A nurse said softly.

Sayori growled and gently lifted her lover's shirt, hearing a slight wet rip noise as she resisted the want to vomit.

There were second and third degree burns littering her stomach and chest.

Monika was taking shaky breaths in her sleep, her chest barely rising and falling in pain even as she slept.

"I need something to treat these burns." Sayori said as her eyes lit up with determination.

~~~
Yuri sat at the table, glancing at her clock.
Natsuki should be home by now...
"Mama! The little hand is past the three and the big one is past the six!" Naomi said, tugging on Yuri's long sleeve shirt.
"Yeah, Mama! It's after three three zero! It's four two six!" Winter said, pointing at her wrist watch Monika had gifted her for the twins' fifth birthday.
"Hmm... Mommy should be home by now..." Yuri hummed, pulling Naomi into her lap as she bounced the girl on her leg.
Winter climbed onto her other leg as Yuri chuckled softly and bounced her as well.
Suddenly, Yuri's phone buzzed from the table.
She reached over to pick it up as both girls stopped giggling as not to interrupt the phone call.
"Mrs. Owens. We're calling to inform you there was an accident." A male voice said somberly.
Yuri paused her leg bouncing as she tensed.
"Is... Is Natsuki alright...?" Yuri asked softly, her lips trembling as she stared off into space.
"Oh... Um... We aren't sure yet. She just went into the emergency wing... Your cousin is here too, currently in an operation... I'm truly sorry to tell you but we don't think Mrs. Park is going to make it from how the procedure is going..." the man said softly in a sympathetic voice.
"M.. Monika...? Natsuki... O-Oh... Thank you... For telling me..." Yuri said, her voice vain of life.
Winter and Naomi looked up at her worriedly.
"Nasooki is Mommy's name..." Winter whispered to Naomi.
"Monukah is our ant...." Naomi whispered back as both twins held curiosity in their eyes.
Yuri hung up the phone and held the girls close, taking shaky, shallow breaths.
"Mama..? Wutss wrong?" Naomi asked, cupping Yuri's cheeks with her small, slender hands.
"Is okay, Mama." Winter encouraged, stretching up to pat their mother on the head.
"Nothing's wrong, my darlings... J-Jessica and Summer are going to watch you for a bit, okay? Mama will be back soon." Yuri smiled and kissed both girls on the cheeks.
"Will you bring Mommy with you?" Naomi asked, tilting her head.
Yuri gulped back some tears and nodded.
"Yeah... I will..." she said in a broken whisper, hugging Naomi close.
Winter joined in as Yuri felt a tear slip down, quickly wiping it.
"Can you girls be good for a few minutes until Summer and Jessica get here? Mama has to leave right now." Yuri stood, grabbing the keys of her rusty four door car she rarely used.
The twins nodded and grinned.
"Yes, Mama!" They said in unison.
"Thank you, my loves..." Yuri said softly, waving as she exited and locked the house.
"Summer? Yeah... I need you and Jessica to watch the girls.. Key's under the mat." Yuri said before immediately hanging up.
Not Monika...
Not Natsuki...
Why them..?
How could this happen?!
Yuri sped off towards the hospital as fast as her junky car would allow her, crying silently the entire ride.
