TWEET! TWEET! TWEET! I timidly sung.
I flapped open my eyelids and settled my lenses upon the dancing shadows cohercing me out of my opaque cocoon.
See! I had grown far too tall from the yellow yolk I delightfully devoured
And with a stretch and a yawn, I pierced my shell to bits.
A chilling morning breeze flooded through my frail lungs.
With the draw of my first breath, the square-footage I called home was now embossed onto a bookmarked sepia page.
I exhaled in short stutters as my hot air formed spools of fog which disected the iron bars of my newly cast cage.
The frost brought forth goosebumps to the surface of my nude skin
And my chirping gospel went mute as the cold took root.
The silence reverberated through my bones like pins and needles,
Immobilising my stumby webbed foot. The frostbite continued to bite down
And I instinctively coralled myself into my prickly rose nest
That lay on a chiselled clay perch
My limbs became my woolen gown
As the spring sun played a bout of peek-a- boo with the poofy clouds.
My head swivels west to the thorny edge for Vitamin D in desperate search.
Its fledgling rays zested the hairs on my neck into a feathered vest
To bear the cold
Transforming an Ugly Duckling into something bold.
The globe spun a few dizzying rounds
And finally the sun obliged with a hug hold.
The skies cleared and blushed with a beam of hue.
Red, orange, yellow through to blue.
It's smile shined upon me with full might.
Setting jets of air beneath my wings nudging me into flight.
I knew just then that I was walking on sunshine.
The ground beneath me teams and beats to my drum as I fall in love
And in that moment, the world fit me as snug as a glove
And I had no doubt that the world was mine.
