Chapter eight; and breathe
"So, you're going on a date with the doctor?" Ashton was stood in the doorway of Luke's room, Erica and Isaac's room, he mentally corrected himself. Lexi was on his shoulders, repeatedly hitting her doll off Ashton's forehead every time she swung the toy back and forth."Uh, kinda." Luke replied as he buttoned up his light blue shirt that matched his eyes. He still felt a little unsure about this date, the irrational part of his brain was accusing him of cheating on Ashton and their little family when they weren't even together. He also felt like he was using Ethan as a distraction from Ashton, either way Luke felt like a bad person. "He seems nice."
Ashton furrowed his eyebrows, "You hardly know him." That was true. "He could be arrogant, extremely sarcastic-."
Luke cut him off, with a grin. "Well, that's good then. You just described yourself and I dated you didn't I?" He teased, causing Ashton to roll his eyes and follow luke down the hallway as he went to spray some aftershave on his neck in the bathroom.
"What if Lexi starts crying again? She's been restless all day?" Ashton asked, causing Luke to quirk his eyebrow. Lexi seemed happy enough on Ashton's shoulders right now, far from having a breakdown.
"You don't need me to soothe her Ashton." Luke reassured, pushing his fringe down as he did. Ashton was still watching him through the mirror of the room.
"Yeah but..." Ashton stopped himself, before straightening up and shrugging. "You really think you are going to have more fun with a doctor that probably has the personality of Lexi's toy rabbit, than me and Lexi. Huh?"
The blonde just continued getting ready, recognising that Ashton was being dramatic and he knew perfectly well that he could look after Lexi by himself so he was unsure why he was acting the way he was.
"A doctor though, really?" Ashton spoke up a few moments later and Luke felt the need to scream into the nearest pillow.
"Stop being mean. He's smart, and I like him. Why are you so pissy tonight?"
Ashton placed Lexi down on the couch, flicking through the children's channels until he landed on a familiar cartoon. "Lexi kept us up all night." He complained before falling into the space beside the toddler, setting himself up for the night. "Excuse me for not being a ray of sunshine twenty four seven."
Luke chose to ignore his sarcasm and walked over to Lexi, realising it was time to go. "Bye baby, I'll come tuck you in once I'm home." And then he was pressing a kiss to her forehead and nodding in Ashton's direction, before heading towards the door.
"I've made you both some pasta, it's ready for you to eat." Luke told him as he reached for his favourite jacket, slipping it on. When he glanced over his shoulder to see why Ashton wasn't responding, Ash was frowning at the cartoon clearly not watching it but still using it to avoid looking at Luke.
