Chapter nine; want you back
It had been a couple of days since Lexi had been released from hospital. Thankfully, the antibiotics had worked and she had started returning to her old self in no time, however that didn't stop both Luke and Ashton feeling anxious whenever she so much as cried.
It was after that, both Ashton had Luke started adapting to the situation they were in. They stopped seeing themselves as babysitters, but as the two people that were raising Lexi.
And with that, they started making changes. They started inviting neighbours around the house, as if it was there home, which it now was. Luke had made a casserole and invited two couples from down the road to the house, one of them had a child around Lexi's age and before they knew it they were setting up play dates.
Luke even talked Ashton into going to a parent, toddler music class. It had been entertaining to stand at the back of the room while Ashton sat with a circle of parents, Lexi sat in between his legs while they played different mini instruments. Luke couldn't decide who played the small drums more, Lexi or Ashton.
Grocery shopping became a domestic talent. They had perfected what they needed to buy every time, before Lexi they shopped as single men with little responsibility. Now? They had a shopping list planned and food for a family.
It was when Calum and Michael came around that they realised that their house was basically a memorial to Isaac and Erica. "You know, this place doesn't even look like you and Ashton live here." Michael had pointed out as he glanced around the living room, "Sure, you can tell by the mess left by Ashton and his biker boots kicked off by the door. And Luke's baking equipment in the kitchen, but other than that you look like lodgers."
So, Ashton and Luke had officially moved all of their stuff out of their old apartments and brought it to the house. Ashton put his bike in the garage, his work stuff in the office, his boots had their own place by the front door, his leather jacket thrown over the banister.
Luke started making the house more Luke, bakery equipment in a little cupboard, converses beside Ashton's boots, his overly fluffy blanket thrown over the bed and his university diploma on the wall.
Every room had a large amount of pictures of Erica and Issac on the walls, they took down some of the photos and put them in storage to give to Lexi once she was older. Although, they made sure to leave a couple of pictures out, wanting their presence in the house. However, with space from the other pictures being took down, Ashton and Luke started putting up pictures of themselves and their own families.
"Cute, right?" Ashton grinned as he placed a large picture of Luke, Ashton and Lexi that had been taken by Isaac at Lexi's first birthday. She was in her high chair and both men were stood on either side of her, grins matching. Luke remembered them having to be convinced to be in a picture together.
When Ashton returned from work the following day, for once he didn't look emotionally exhausted but instead he was smiling as he walked into the living room to see Luke and Lexi lounged across the couch.
