(Author note) Hello! This is my very first story on Wattpad. I am kind of nervous about posting it, I fear that no one will read it and that I will get a lot of hate. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see, correct?

Audrey's POV

I gazed at the clock. 10:35. Ugh. We were in Math class, doing order of operations, also called BEDMAS. I snuck a quick glance at my friend Hannah. She was scribbling every word down that the teacher wrote on the board. She was very smart and a big teachers' pet.

I barely had time to think before our teacher, Mr. Sterling cleared his voice and started to speak.

"Okay class," He started "We are having a new student coming in tomorrow."

I groaned. I hated having new students. They were always from some stuck up private school.

"Um, Mr. Sterling?" A girl, I believe called Macy spoke up. "What school is this student coming from?"

"Well, they are coming from Scarlet Rose Academy, an all-girls school in London England. I know for a fact that SHE is a girl." Our teacher replied, reading off a sheet.

Just as I thought. Surely 'Scarlet Rose Academy' wasn't a boring Chicago school like ours.

The bell rung and we all shuffled out into the hallway. I started walking to my locker, wondering about the new student.

I was knocked out of my thoughts when someone came up behind me.

"Avery!" Hannah tapped on my shoulder and I spun around.

"Hmm?" I replied, turning back to my locker and fiddling with my lock, which honestly hated me sometimes.

"I volunteered us to show the new student around the school. Mr. Sterling said that it can count for extra credit." Hannah explained, beaming as though this was the best thing ever.

My eyes widened, "What?!" I hated how Hannah was always signing us up for the dumbest school activities without my permission. I brushed my red hair out of my eyes and I crossed my arms. I glared at her as though looks can kill.

"Oh, come on. It will be fun, we might even get a chance to make a new friend!" Hannah tried to brighten my mood with a smile.

"Whatever." I finally opened my locker, and got out my supplies for art.

We walked in silence to the art room, joining the rest of our class. I sighed and fiddled with my sweater, tuning out Hannah as she babbled on about some science test we had coming up. The art teacher came to the door and motioned us into the classroom. I got out my pastels and started shading in my sketch of a flower. After twenty minutes of lectures from our old art teacher, I turned back to my drawing and finished coloring it in. Perfect!

Thirty or so minutes later the bell rung and everyone scurried out the classroom, eager to get to the cafeteria. I made my way to my locker, not waiting for Hannah.

"Avery! Wait up!" Hannah called and she pushed past people to get to me.

"Oh, hi." I replied quickly, reaching for my lock.

"Are you okay? You seem kinda..." Hannah searched for the word. "Annoyed."

I nodded and I got out my lunch bag.

"Oh, I almost forgot. I can't eat lunch with you today, I have book club."

I rolled my eyes at the last part.

"And I have to ask Mr. Sterling about helping out the new student."

"Whatever, I'll eat alone." I said as I started to walk in the direction of cafeteria.

When I got there, I sat down at our usual spot, and pulled out my turkey sandwich. I was about to take a bite when the PA system went off. "Attention to the volleyball team -" Someone on the PA system started. I rolled my eyes for the millionth time today and took a bite of my sandwich.

A few hours later, I stepped outside to face the cold air. I quickly zipped up my sweater and made my way home. When I got to my house, I unlocked the door and closed it behind me. I took off my shoes and headed to my room. I sat down at my desk and scribbled away at a piece of paper.  Ideas filled my mind as a moved my pencil across the paper.

...

The next morning, I groaned as I smacked my ringing alarm clock. I wasn't in a good mood. I got

dressed and made my way downstairs. I grabbed a bowl and poured my favorite cereal, Cinnamon Toast Crunch into it. I quickly gulped down my cereal, grabbed my lunch and was out the door.

When I got to school, Hannah wasn't there. This was strange, Hannah always came early. I thought nothing of it and made my way inside. When I got inside, I went directly to my locker. Very few people were there. I scanned through them and didn't see Hannah. I started to turn my lock when a girl came up to me. I didn't recognize her.

"Hi." She said shyly before she looked down at her feet. "I'm Vanessa."

Before I had time to reply, the bell rung.

"I'm Avery. Gotta go to class." With a small wave, I turned away and headed to my first class, math.

I sat down in my seat, still no sign of Hannah. I was relying on her to help me today.

Suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks. Hannah signed us up to help out the new girl today, so now I was going to have to do it alone! Oh god! I hid my face in my hands. I hate my life. I hate my life. I hate my life. I opened my eyes, hoping to escape as though those were the magic words. No luck, I was still in math class. Finally, Mr. Sterling walked in.

"Okay class, our new student it here!" He stepped out of the way, revealing a small girl with blonde, almost white hair with blue streaks. She was wearing a plain white blouse and a blue and green plaid skirt. Hm... She looked familiar.

"Hi, I'm Vanessa." She said timidly as she waved. "Vanessa Mathews." Ah, now I know where I knew her from. She was the girl that I bumped into in the hallway.

"Okay Vanessa, you can sit down here, next to Avery." Mr. Sterling directed her to the seat. She sat down, looking nervous.

...

Math flew by quickly, and so did history. Soon enough, it was lunchtime. I walked down to the cafeteria alone, second day in a row. I sat down, and pulled out my lunch.

"Avery Jones, please come down to the office." The PA system boomed. Oh crap, what did I do? I searched my head of excuses to save me for whatever I did. I packed away my lunch quickly and made my way down to the office, silently praying that I wasn't in trouble. When I got there, I saw Mr. Sterling and Vanessa. Oh yeah.

"Okay, Avery. I understand that you and Hannah signed up to show Vanessa around. Am I correct?" Mr. Sterling questioned. I nodded my head and Mr. Sterling continued.

"Well, Hannah is away today, so you are going to be showing her around by yourself. I hope you can handle it."

"Okay." I sighed. I turned to Vanessa.

"Let's go." I said as I motioned her out the door.
