(Author note) This chapter is fairly short, and it isn't that exciting. I am working on the fifth chapter, which will be longer.
I guess I must have been thinking aloud because Vanessa answered me.
"It was just a lucky guess, no big deal, really." Vanessa shrugged, making it seem like nothing. I decided to let it go, it was a lucky guess after all... right? Or maybe I over thought things. I totally forgot where I was, because I jumped a little bit when the bell rung. We shuffled into the classroom, and sat down at our desks.
I put my math books into my desk. I looked over at Hannah, who was sitting a couple seats away. Mr. Sterling walked into the classroom and sat down at his desk. He folded his hands and started talking.
"Okay, class. Today we're going to learn about square roots...." I tuned out because I wasn't interested. Vanessa tapped on my shoulder and handed me a folded piece of paper.
'I'm bored, how 'bout you?' It read.
I quickly replied. 'YES. Can math be any more boring?' I passed the note to her, watching her as she replied. I looked over at Hannah, who was doodling in her notebook. Hmm, that's peculiar, usually Hannah writes down every word when Mr. Sterling is giving us a math lecture.
I saw Vanessa sliding the piece of paper to me, and I opened it without taking my eyes away from Hannah. I glanced down at the sheet.
'So, are you gonna deal with the Hannah problem?'
I concentrated on the sheet, and mentally debated what I should reply. 'I don't know, what should I do?' I passed the note to her, and she quickly opened it up. Her face was concentrating hard as she wrote her response. She tapped me on the shoulder and handed me the note.
'I don't know, maybe you should let her come to her senses. She wasn't being very nice to you, and she should be the one to apologize. Its your call though, you can chose what you think is right.' I took in her advice, and decided to go with it. It was Hannah's fault, so she should apologize, right?' I nodded at Vanessa and threw the note away. I turned my attention back to Mr. Sterling who was now struggling to explain something to a student in my class named Nathan.
"So, Avery, what is the answer?" Mr. Sterling asked. Everyone's eyes turned to me, and I had no idea.
"Um... One million?" A couple people laughed, apparently I was very off.
"Nice try Avery, but it's 2 to the power of 6."
I decided that I would actually pay attention to what Mr. Sterling was saying, my parents would kill me if I failed math.
"Can I go to the bathroom?" Vanessa asked. Mr. Sterling nodded and she left the room. Suddenly, the bell rung. I shuffled out of the classroom, taking Vanessa's stuff with me so I could give it to her. I put my stuff away, and waited for her to return.
I walked into the bathroom, and I saw Vanessa fiddling with her rather puffy hair, like she was trying to hide something. I guess she saw my reflection behind her because she jumped a little. This was just like a repeat of yesterday.
"Oh, I was just fixing my hair!" She exclaimed. I shrugged it off and handed her her stuff.
"Oh... Thanks....?" She asked, almost like a question.
"No problem." I replied as we walked out the door.
We were in the computer lab, and I was on Youtube. I was also doing research for my essay, but yeah, mostly Youtube. I was sitting beside Vanessa and on the other side was Hannah, we had assigned seats and it was getting awkward. I turned to Vanessa.
"Would now be a good time to apologize to Hannah?" I spoke in a hushed tone, not wanting her to overhear.
"Um..." Vanessa thought for a moment. "I don't think now is a good time."
"Then when will it be?" I questioned, tilting my head. This whole issue just seemed so silly.
"I don't know, I'll tell you when I think so." She replied like she was my mother. BUT my mother wasn't British.
"Um... Okay..." I turned back to my computer, and stared at my empty word document. Boy, I really need to get started.
I looked down at the keyboard for a minute, like I was studying the keys individually.
Suddenly the bell rung. I sighed in relief and gathered up all of my books.
Thankfully I got to the cafeteria before Hannah and Vanessa, so I didn't have to worry about making the wrong choice of where to sit. I stood in line impatiently as I waited for everyone to move up. I glanced behind my shoulder and I saw both of them sitting down on opposite sides of the cafeteria. I wasn't sure if I should ignore Hannah, she IS still my best friend, am I correct? Or should I sit with Vanessa... She doesn't really have any friends here. I don't want to abandon her, I would feel guilty as hell. I surprised myself when I had met Vanessa because I thought I would hate her. I was mentally pushed out if my thoughts when the line moved up.
Ten minutes later, I finally got to the front of the line. I got pizza and fries, but when I turned around, the bell rung. Crap, I didn't get to eat, but at least I avoided a problem.
(Author note) Sorry, this chapter was very sucky, but I had no ideas for it.
