"Amma, Lucy has been crying almost all day." Sanya said in a very convincing miserable tone. "Susan was at work and her brothers are with her cousin, so Lil and I went to her- even taking her to a pet shop didn't help."
"Her brothers aren't there?" Her father peered from above his glasses and Sanya shook her head.
"Well, I-" Her mother looked torn. She loved Lucy like her own, the poor, sweet child, but to let Sanya stay over alone... "Will be Susan be there?" She asked, remembering the logical, responsible adult girl.
Sanya nodded, "Yes, she will, but she doesn't want to stay alone without her brothers so..."
She felt a momentary urge to laugh and quelled it. That would ruin EVERYTHING.
"Well, fine, I suppose... but I'll be sending your father over to check on you later." Her mother said and wow, talk about both happiness and sadness.
"I can't go." Sazid spoke up from the report he had been writing. "I have an early day tomorrow."
That settled it. Sanya walked out the house 20 minutes later, with a huge grin on her face.
"So what are we doing first?" Susan asked, after she, Sanya, Peter, Lucy, Edmund and Lilith had sat down in a circle on the floor.
Ah, social drinking. What a tug back to the past- or technically the future, Lilith decided.
"Well. It depends... spin the bottle... better after a few drinks... so's truth or dare... I got it!" She decided, leaving her place at circle, "split into two teams." She told them from the kitchen, placing 10 cups in a arrow formation, the other side of the table the same and pouring a shot of the whiskey in each.
"Usually beer pong. But we've no beer, so this is the best I can manage... also no balls, so we'll have to use these." She spoke, holding out a handful of thimbles.
"Throw the thimble into the opposite teams cup, then drink the shot. The first team for them to finish the other team's, wins." She finished both her explanation and setting up to turn to the others.Everyone goggled at her.
"You were an absolute party girl, weren't you?" Susan asked, voice a bit dismayed but mostly awed.Lilith blushed but didn't answer. "Anyway, so- teams? I choose Sanya and Peter."
"You can't-" Edmund let out a noise of outrage and looked around at his team, which consisted of his sisters. "This is a horrible team!"
"Susan's already got her thimble into the first cup." Sanya informed him quietly and he turned round to stare at his elder sister chug down a cup.
"What?" She batted her eyelashes innocently.
His competitive streak rising, Peter got up to bat- so to speak.
Lilith couldn't help but laugh at the face Susan made as she took her first shot.
Still beauty beyond words- but that FACE.
She watched Edmund take his turn, getting the thimble in first time as he narrowed his eyes at his brother competitively and took his shot.Lilith respected him for managing- almost- to hide the clearing of his throat afterwards.
Peter, fuelled by his brother's competitive look, also scored immediately."You guys need to slow down... and that's coming from ME." Lilith managed through laughter as she surveyed the scene before her. What had she done?
"You're the bad influence." Sanya narrowed her eyes at her, and poised to throw the thimble but missed. Peter groaned and Edmund laughed and she threw an empty cup at both of him.
"I'm going again." She said in a dangerous voice, shaking her hair loose and Lilith let her- yup, the thimble landed neatly in the cup.
