I jumped off the swing set and ran all the way to my car. This was unreal. Jaxton showed no emotion at all when he told me the news and if my mom was in the hospital with cancer, I'd be crying buckets. I quickly parked the car into our driveway, hopped out of the car and ran inside the house. I hear voices in the kitchen, but I refused to go in there because I obviously wasnt in the mood to talk.

The door to my room was slightly open. I turned on the lights and flopped down on my bed. The crown, the picture and the rose were still in place on the bedside table. I grabbed the picture viciously and flung it into one of the walls, the frame broke and the glass lay in pieces in the corner and bits were stuck in the paint. I don't know when I fell asleep, but I did.

I was suddenly awoken by a Tarzan war cry.

'Aaaaaaaarghhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

I jumped up in bed and opened the door. My cousins, Jarred and Ty were in the hallway outside my door playing lazer tag. Which meant Aunt Martha was here. I mentally facepalmed myself and stepped around them. I slid down the banister cause my feet were still asleep. The voices were still in the kitchen. I wiped reamining tears from my eyes and stepped into the kitchen. Mom and Aunt Martha were sitting around the counter.

"And that's when Ty got that huge cast on his arm. My poor, innocent baby!" Aunt Martha was saying.

Ty? Innocent? I dont think so.

"Hey..." I mumbled, going to the fridge for a slice of pie.

"Axy!"Aunt Martha exclaimed, jumping off her stool and rushing over to grab me in a tight bear hug.

She refuses to call me Axel. No matter how many times you tell her what my name is.

"It's Axel." I said, trying for the millionth time in my life.

"Oh, Axy! You've grown so much!" she continued.

FAIL.

"Uh-huh." I managed to say, taking a bite out of my apple.

Mom got up from her stool.

"Honey, I didn't know you were home. Where have you been all day?" she asked.

"Oh, I was over at Jaxton's. " I literally spat his name.

"Oh," she said, winking.

"Don't wink at me like that. He broke up with me. His dad has cancer."

'I once had a cat who had cancer." Aunt Martha said.

NOT HELPING.

At that moment, the bell rang.

"I'll get it." I said, looking for an excuse to leave the room.

At the door was the biggest surprise of my young life.

MR.THOMPSON( Jaxton's Dad) was standing at the door with a container in his hands.

"Mr.Thompson?" I asked, in disbelief.

"Axel!" he said, laughing. "How great to see you. I brought over some beef lasagna for your mother."

"I- I thought you had cancer. Why are you not in the hospital?"

His smile wavered. "Cancer? Hospital? What are you talking about?"

"You never had cancer?" I asked, leaning on the door post.

"No, dear. I've been at work all day." he replied.

OMFG, Jaxton LIED.
