Knees and hands burning, I followed after the two boys. Aris called out for us to stop, the metal creaking as he spun to face us. Between him and Thomas lay a dusty vent. With a simple flick of his wrist, Aris swung it open, nodding as he jumped down. Thomas went next, signalling for me to drop after him. Skillfully, I landed on my feet, a light tap for impact. The boys hurried me over, taking me to a door. Pulling a card from his pocket, Thomas swiped it, the key pad flashing green. Entering, my skin rushed with goosebumps. Bodies, several of them, hung from the ceiling. Tubes winded from their mouths, wires sticking out from their veins. A horrifying gurgle of water came from big cylinders, housing mutated grievers.

"What is all this?", I asked, shocked at the sight.

Thomas opened his mouth yet no words came as the sound of a card being accepted buzzed through the room. Acting sharply, i yanked the boy to hide behind a pillar, unnoticed by the visitor. Hands on his chest, I peered out, seeing Janson standing by a large screen. The picture flicked before the face of Doctor Ava Paige appeared.

I shook my head, not believing it. We saw her die. The pair chatted, about how they were getting close to a cure for the Flare and Ava wanted to test on more subjects. Janson suggested the new batch of kids, talking about how they would be the most successful. They were referring to us, the Gladers. Listening in more, they said something about an organisation called The Right Arm, saying that they were taking the subjects away, attacking from the mountains. Finishing up, Ava said something that turned my blood icy.

"Remember, Wicked is good".

Fading, Janson's footsteps left, the doors sealing shut. Alarm was spread across Thomas's face, Aris running to us from his hiding place. My mind fizzled, the information I had just received overwhelming. The whole thing was just wicked lies.

"We have to get the others", I spoke, "we have to get out of here, now!".

Sitting waiting for Thomas to return was agonising. I couldn't help but wonder if something had gone wrong and he'd been caught. Worser yet, he had told us about how he was going to bring Y/N into this. If she was hurt, I'd loose my mind. All of us would. Sighing, I glanced at Minho, his head bowed and hands clasped. Frypan and Winston quietly conversed, their small whispers the only sound in the room.

Scraping of metal came from the floor, my heart rate spiking momentarily as the vent cover popped open. Crawling out was Thomas, his face filled with anger. Relief flooded me when I saw Y/N unharmed yet her alarmed expression kept my anxiety high.

"Thomas what's going on?", Minho questioned, watching the brunette move about frantically.

The boy didn't reply, wrapping a bed sheet around the door handle tightly.

"Aris, what happened?!", Winston yelled.

"It's Wicked", I spoke, the chaotic shouts drowning me out.

"Thomas, would you calm down and tell us what's going on?!", Minho interrogated.

"Y/N, what's wrong?", Newt softly, touched my arm, "what did you see?".

"Its Wicked!", Thomas screamed, banging his fist against the wall before spinning to face us, "Ava Paige is still alive".

"But we saw her die", Frypan's face was filled with confusion.

"We did", I kept my voice calm, "but that doesn't change the fact that Janson is coming for us and we need to find Theresa and leave".

The tension settled to silence, everyone staring at me with trusting eyes.

"Aris, lead the way through the vents", Thomas ordered, "come on, let's go!".

No hesitation came as the Gladers followed after each other, our journey of escaping beginning.
