[Y/N P.O.V]
Standing in front of us, she motioned Thomas to her, the boy getting to his feet. Without being asked, the rest of us followed, ready to defend him if anything happened.
"Hello Thomas", she spoke confidently, as if she didn't just destroy the whole camp.
The boy didn't answer, only glared. Waving to her side, she gave a small smile, Teresa walking over to her. The girl stared down at the sand the entire time, keeping her mouth sealed shut, almost like she felt... guilty.
"What the... Teresa?", Frypan questioned, confusion and hurt within his tone.
"Wait, what's going on?", Newt asked with drawn brows.
"She's with them", I answered sharply, "she's with Wicked".
Teresa looked up with sad eyes, the Gladers all feeling the same betrayal, the trust we had destroyed.
"Since when?", Minho asked, disappointment clear.
Janson strolled over, the same cocky smirk plastered over his mouth, adding to his rattiness.
"Oh Teresa's always had an appreciation for the greater good since we started restoring her memories", he spoke, "it was only a matter if time".
Everyone's faces fell in both anger and sadness as everything made sense. She was manipulated by Wicked, a pawn in their game to return us back to that stupid compound for more testing, more torture. It made me feel sick.
Teresa picked her vision up, holding a pleading expression.
"I'm sorry", her voice broke as she looked to all of us, "it was the only way, we have to find a cure".
"But not like this", I spat back, the words stinging my throat like venom.
"She's right", Ava defended, "this is all just a means to an end, you used to understand that, Thomas".
The boy gently shook his head, the days of his past still haunting him.
"No matter what you think of me, I'm not a monster, I'm a doctor. I swore an oath to find a cure, no matter the cost... I just need more time".
"More blood", a voice came from behind, Mary pushing her way into view.
A thick silence rolled over the group, the pounding of helicopters and muffled cries of captured teenagers the only sound in the dense air as we turned to the doctor.
Following behind her, Vince and the pack came, shock clear on their faces. I released a short breath when I saw that they were okay, Allison finding me with worried eyes. I gave her a short smile and a quick nod yet her gaze still provided concern. Pulling my attention away from my sister, I returned to the two scientists conversation.
"Hello Mary", Ava greeted, monotone, "I'd hope we'd meet again, I'm sorry it was under these circumstances".
"I'm sorry about a lot of things, but not this", Mary spat, "at least my conscience is clear".
Ava paused, "so is mine".
"No!", Lydia screamed, being held back by Derek.
A deep bang sounded, screams echoing as my legs staggered back, Thomas grabbing onto me protectively. I looked to Mary, blood covering her shirt, limbs trembling as she fell into Vince.
"No, Mary!", he yelled, gripping onto her, his voice broken by pain, "no!".
Chills jolted over my bones as I turned to see Janson, a smoking gun held in his fist, a scowl over his wrinkled face. Vince continued to cry out, guards attempting to pull him away yet getting nowhere. Mary had healed me and now she was gone, I didn't even get to say thank you. Gritting my teeth, I resisted every urge to attack Ratman and get back at him. The only thing stopping me was the grip of Thomas, the boy knowing if he didn't hold me back I'd do something I'd regret.
"Come on Janson, finish loading them up, let's go!", Ava ordered, "let's go!".
Teresa stood petrified, tears on her cheeks while staring at the scene. The doctor put her hand on her shoulder, leading the numb girl towards the berg. She never looked back once.
Guards took hold of me, breaking me away from Thomas, the brunette also being grabbed. Swiftly punching them, he whipped the explosive from his pocket, warning everyone to move. Swinging my leg up, I hit the distracted guard where the sun doesn't shine and made my escape back to the Gladers. Thumb hovering over the button, Ava and Janson came running back, Teresa not far behind.
"Hold your fire!", Janson screeched at the guards, "stand down!"
"Stay back!", Thomas ordered through gritted teeth, arms trembling from rage, "let them go!"
"Thomas put it down-"
"Let them all go!", the boy interrupted.
"You know I can't do that", Ava stepped forwards, voice calm despite the sudden distress, "it had to be done-"
"Shut up!", he yelled, Teresa stepping out from behind the woman.
"Thomas please stop", she pleaded, eyes glistening, "I made a deal with them, they promised we'd be safe, they promised all of us".
"What? So, we're supposed to trust you now then?", I accused, tone bitter as I shuffled slightly in the sand, Newt grabbing my shoulder in an attempt to calm me.
She shook her head, voice cracking, "I'm sorry, Y/N, I had too".
I scoffed, "no, it's wicked playing with your mind, how didn't you see?"
"Enough", Ava warned, "Teresa's right, it was her only condition. Everything can go back to the way it was, Thomas, think wisely about your next choice".
"Listen to her Thomas, do you really want to kill all your friends", Janson added on, raising his brow, turning his stare to me, "more specifically her".
The brunette glanced over at us, conflicted between fighting back and harming us in the process. Swallowing down the lump in my throat, I ignored the buzzing fear in m veins and joined Thomas' side and slid my fingers on top of his, both our thumbs hovering above the button.
"I'm not leaving without you", I whispered, reciting the words he had told me many times.
Newt limped over, Minho and Fry right behind him.
"We're with you, Thomas", Newt reassured, taking my free hand.
"All of us, all together", Minho nodded, putting his hand upon his friend's shoulder, Fry showing a small smile.
"Don't", Ava shook her head, the calm aura replaced by a panicked facade.
"Do it, Thomas, we're ready", Newt spoke for all of us.
"No", Teresa choked out.
Catching Allison's gaze, her face was pained, Scott hugging her close as he also held back tears, along with the whole pack. Giving them a forced smile, I mouthed 'it'll be alright' to them, hoping they understood what Thomas and I had to do. Raising his fist, I moved my arms to wrap around Thomas' middle, my head burying in his chest. Feeling him tremble, I took a deep breath, preparing for my fate.
"I'm not going back there", he spoke, words unstable, "it's the only way".
One simple movement and we'd be gone from this wicked world.
"I love you, Y/N", Thomas rushed out, my heart beat spiking.
"I love you too", I cried out, never moving from my position.
One simple movement and then it would all be over, all the pain... gone.
