The sky was lit up with red-orange tint as the sun was setting. The cool air from the windows kept me awake along with the shaky carriage. The forest around was becoming less visible as the light diminished away.

Yawn

Eri must be very tired too, perhaps more than me.

The uncertainty and worried face of Eri caught my eyes.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

"It's nothing... Well, it is something, but..." Eri said, nervously rolling her hair on her finger. "The capital you see... is where I'm from..."

Surprised, I looked at her in guilt.

"Are you sure you wanted to tag along?" I said.

"I don't know... It was so sudden that we had to leave and," she took a deep breath, "I had this feeling that I was never going to see you again if I didn't go with you."

The feeling of guilt rushed into my heart as I felt responsible for dragging Eri with me. Silence.

If Eri was spotted after being missing for a couple of months, there would be trouble, for both of us.

"Well, I was the one who ran away in the first place... I'll have to face the consequences if I get found," Eri said.

"Well, because of that, you and I were able to meet."

She looked at my grinning face and looked away in disbelief.

"Don't worry," I grabbed her shoulder, "You just don't have to be caught, right?"

"You sure make it sound simple..."

"I mean, how likely is it that people will just instantly notice you?"

"I don't really have to be worried about commoners, but the majority of nobles and aristocrats will most likely know who I am."

"Just put a hat on and you'll be fine."

She sighed. "How long do you think we're going to stay there for?"

"Until the royal business is done I guess."

"Do you have any idea why you were summoned to the capital?"

"I honestly have no idea." I drank some water off my canteen. "I haven't caused any trouble or do anything fancy last week."

"You did? You took down one the heroes in a one on one duel today. Also the disaster this morning."

"Ok. think, even if the news from this morning were to spread via express couriers, it would take at least a day and a half for it to reach the capital."

"True..."

Indeed, unless someone were to magically transmit information to the capital, it was impossible for anyone in there to have heard of this morning's incident.

Speaking of this morning, I have to make sure Eri doesn't do something so reckless again.

"Eri, I have one more thing to talk to you about."

"What is it?"

"This morning, I appreciate you coming down to heal me immediately after the disaster struck," I took a deep breath, "But I don't want you to do it ever again..."

"What do you mean?"

"It was too dangerous. What if you were attacked all of sudden? You can't fight that thing off."

"The hero was fending the monster off, I was safe."

"What if the hero wasn't strong enough? What if he was taken down? The next target could've been you!"

"I could've at least fend that thing-"

"Don't be ridiculous! You can't do anything without somebody protecting you."

"What, then you want me to just watch as you're lying unconscious on the floor bleeding!?"

I clicked my tongue, "I would've been fine. Others would've taken me to safety and treated me."

"No! Everyone was frozen in fear and didn't even move an inch right after you were half killed!"

I couldn't get a word out after what I just heard. With a big sigh, I shook my head.

"Still, I don't want you doing something like that ever again," I said

"No! I'm not just sitting behind watching you die! You don't be ridiculous!"

I let out another big sigh and rolled my eyes.

"Do whatever..." I said.

Just what am I supposed to do by myself if you're dead...
