At the royal palace in Capital. Inside the office of Duke Léon.
"Sir Léon, Sir LÉON!"
The door of the office flung open as fuming hot Arnaud stormed inside.
"Sir Léon! What's the meaning of this!?"
"You're too loud, Arnaud," Léon said, facing towards the door.
"I've just got a word from Sir Clary that you've summoned a random adventurer to the royal palace. With all due respect, a royal summon... right now is not a good idea!"
"It is all okay I tell you. Robin and I are good friends."
"Sir, how close of an acquaintance or not, this will become a national issue if that adventurer causes any problem."
"Worry not. I've already looked him up. He's very mysterious, but with all the reports, he is a finely mannered gentleman. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a descent of a noble. So I would like you to treat him like one also, Arnaud."
"Understood... Then I shall prepare a necessary preparation."
Arnaud got excused from the room.
A truly intriguing individual. But... the girl next to him. Without a doubt, she has to be the missing daughter of the Évreux family. How and why is he with her?
He repositioned himself on the chair and took a sip of warm, aromatic tea.
Though I should be reporting this to the Évreux family... Or at least, not yet. but this way, It's more interesting, is it not?
Léon gave a little chuckle,
Heh, this could lead to the end of the long connections that the Léon family line and Évreux family line had for centuries...
Clip-clip Clip-clop
The sound of the carriage rang throughout the streets as it cruised through the wide, open area. In the midst of the buildings, lights squeezed through between, casting light shadow reflected by moonlight.
My neck was sticking out of the window, met by the gentle night breeze and the wind, brushing against me.
"Mr. Wilson, is the capital usually this empty during the night times?" I asked.
"They're generally less crowded than the day times, but not this empty, no." Answered Mr. Wilson.
Then something's definitely wrong. Welp, whatever. Thanks to that we're cruising through the streets.
Staring at the palace in the distance. The royal palace struck me with awe as more of it was exposed to my eyes.
"That's the full view of the Royal Palace! Isn't it magnificent?"
"Woah, it is indeed beautiful."
Every corner and edges of the palace shined with the reflection of the moonlight. The image embedded in my mind through the sparks of brown eyes.
"Mr. Wilson, how long from here?
"Approximately three quarters of an hour at this rate."
"Ok then, can we stop by the closest inn we find around here and drop off Eri?"
"I can, but I thought that lady would be goin' with you."
A slight pause, thinking of excuses.
"I was the one who was called, so I didn't want to drag her into this too much."
"Understood, we shall stop by the closest inn by here."
"Thank you."
With a little shake, Eri opened her eyes.
"Ummhm?"
"Eri, we're gonna drop you off at an inn. And you can sleep in there. Once I'm done with whatever the hell the business in the royal palace, I'll come right back here."
Eri mumbled as if she understood.
"Wake up, I want to talk before you go."
"Umh, what..." she rubbed her eyes as she straightened herself.
"We're just going through what we planned out. Where's the hat?"
"Here," Eri said while sloppily putting the hat on that she pulled out of nowhere.
"Ok, never leave the room, don't talk to anyone, and protect the hat with all your life."
"Yeah, yeah..."
Her eyes, fazing off into the other side again.
"EY! We're gonna be stopping soon, so sleep once you get in the room."
I continuously slapped her cheeks to keep her awake.
"Stop. Stop. Stahp. I'm awake, stop."
"Anyway, since I don't know what they even need me for, I can't tell you when I'm gonna be back. So please bear with me until I come back and just stay in the room."
She nodded with a mumbling "okay."
The carriage soon came to a stop. We carefully got off and knocked on the door of the inn.
THUMP THUMP THUMP
THUMP THUMP THUMP
Silence.
THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP
With the clicks that signaled the door being unlocked, it slowly opened up.
"Who could this be at this late hour? Please come back in the morn-"
I flung the door wide open.
"Pardon, but we are in a hurry." I flicked a gold coin towards him. "Whatever is necessary for one or two nights please, you can take the rest as a tip."
Startled face, but with the money in his hand, he accepted it.
"Please show her the room. We'll take our leave here."
"O-ok."
I got back on the carriage and got back on the way to the palace.
Though I was worried sick of what could happen to Eri, I continued forward.
Uneventful minutes, feeling like unending hours. The carriage finally arrived at the palace. There were people already waiting for me at the place where we stopped.
"Mr. Seo-jun Kim, we've been waiting for your arrival. Please follow us, this way."
Such obvious fake smiles, I can see through all your facades, you arrogant sons of bitches.
They did not even try to start any conversation with me, just showed me the way to the place where they were ordered to bring me to. I didn't mind much for I was busy observing the inner palace. It felt as if I was back on D.C. going through the field trip again, but taking a tour in a historical England museum of some sort.
Their legs stopped in front of a room. They knocked on the door.
"Come in."
They opened the door,
"This way, Duke Léon is waiting inside."
So who's this Léon dude now...
The moment I turned and took a look inside, there I saw him. An elf wearing fancy clothing, standing around with his fancy monocle.
"Sir Duke Léon, We've brought Mr. Seo-jun Kim."
"Good work," he turned his face towards me. "I've been waiting, welcome to the royal palace."
