I soon opened my eyes to the sound of my phone buzzing. I looked at the contact, "Dorky boi". I smiled and answered the call while yawning.
"Hey Alex what's up?" I answered with my voice sounding sleepy. "Did I wake you up? Sorry, I didn't mean to." I let out a small chuckle.
"Nah, I woke up from a little nap thats all. So what's my best friend up to?"
"Best friend? Where? I couldn't be best friends with the most wonderful person in the world. No no. Im just a dork." He said in the most dorkiest voice. I laughed. I could tell he was being himself but I couldn't help but think that what he was saying was just stupid.
I could hear him laughing from the other side of the phone. "Anyways I was calling to see if you wanted to go to In n out." My face lit up.
"Heck yeah I wanna fuckin go!"
"I figured. Anyways I'm right In front of your place." I quickly ended the call, got changed, and dashed down the stairs.
Henry stopped me at the front door and crossed his arms blocking my way.
"Where do you think you are going?" He asked as he raised an eyebrow."Going to In n out with Alex. "
He smiled. "Alright than. I want you back before 10. 10:30 max since you two always take long." I nodded and hugged Henry. "Don't worry you know we always come before the curfew no matter what."
Henry opened the front door for me and I waved him goodbye as I went to Alex. He smiled at me. Alex was the same height as Henry. He was a freshman just like I was. Problem was that he is supposed to be sophomore. But since he was held back a year he entered highschool one year later.
"So to In n out we go!" He said in a goofy impression. I laughed and flicked his forehead. He smiled and we both headed to In n out.
Alex was wearing his usual clothes, a white turtleneck, his dad's black jacket, dark blue ripped jeans, his white Levis, and the gold chain his grandmother gave him.Me on the other hand. I was just wearing an old plain burgundy shirt, my black ripped jeans, white Nikes, and my black beanie of course.
Both of us were drift off in talking that it surprised me when he stopped. I looked back at him. "What's wrong Alex?" He pointed to my bandaged hand. "Another fight Harper? Seriously." I felt ashamed. I knew he didn't like me fighting. But sometimes the schools don't do shit. So, logically us students have to defend ourselves.
"Who was it with this time. I need grade too." Alex commanded as he crossed his arms.
I took a deep breath in. " Stacey Molina."
Alex's face turned pale white. "Stacey Molina! As in Stacey the cheerleader?! The one that everyone loves?!!! That Stacey?!"
I nodded and contuined walking not giving two shits about it. Alex quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me to him. "Harper, you better tell me what the fuck she did to make you even consider fighting her." I looked down, held back my tears, and got the courage to look up at him.
"She thinks that just because she's in cheer she can boss everyone around. She humiliated me in front of everyone saying I was an orphan, a killer, a failed abortion, along with a bunch of other things. But I honestly don't give a crap about me. She dishonored my mother's name and Henry's name. Saying he was just another future gangster like everyone in our neighborhood. That he'd never make it to be a immigration lawyer or even a McDonald's employee. She even made fun of Cameron. Saying he should burn in hell along with all the other people in lgbtq."
I couldn't hold it anymore. Tears started to form in my eyes. Alex pulled me in into a hug. His arms wrapped around me. In comfort he started to rub my head. I could feel his warmth, but even that couldn't stop me from crying more.
Alex sighed, cupped my face, and made me look up at him. He gave me his warm smile and kissed my forehead. "Next time, tell me. I know her boyfriend jumped in mid fight. The bruise on your arm says it. So tell me next time so I can be there and help you beat anyone's ass. You know I don't want anything to happen to you. Even if your stubborn at times."
I laughed a little and hugged him tighter. "Thanks Alex. I'm glad we're still friends after these crazythings we've been through." He smiled.
"So would the little lady like an ice cream to cheer her up?" He asked as he broke up the hug.
Something about Alex always made me forget I even had a rough past. It was like he could make all my problems and worries go away.
I smiled," Nah, I'm fine."
We soon heard a car honk as it passed by us. A look of anger was glued onto Alex's face. I looked at him and laughed. It was likely for girls to get honked at. But then again when isn't it. He put his arm around me as if trying to signal any creeps that I wasn't alone. I couldn't help but slightly blush a little. The warm feeling inside me popped up again.
After what seemed forever we finally arrived.
We ordered our usual orders and took our seats once we got our food."How is your old man?" He asked as he took a bite. I sighed. "He could be better." I responded as I sipped some of my coke. Alex smiled at me.
I gave him a confused look."Is there ketchup on my mouth?" He chuckled.
"Just admiring the great friend I have." He said as he looked away.Wait. Was he really blushing?! Did he just blush?! Why did my heart beat start suddenly racing?! My thoughts started to mush into a mess. Before I could even say a word he cleared his throat.
"Is something wrong?" I asked noticing that he was fidgeting with the jackets cuffs. A sudden change in the atmosphere could be felt. A nervous feeling came upon me and goosebumps crawled onto my skin.
"I wanted to ask you," he started as his light brown eyes looked at me. He gulped. Before he could answer I heard someone call my name. I looked back and what I saw horrified me. Alex quickly got up from his seat and stood next to me.
It was my father.
I could smell the scent of liquor from where Alex and I stood. From the looks of it he had been drinking more. That or he must of also gotten high.
"You little bitch. Come here. No one allowed you to be out. I'm the boss!" He commanded as he tried his best to walk towards me. Alex quickly stepped in front of me. I quickly called 911. I heard a lady scream and a bullet sound followed. My ears ringed. The rest seemed to be a blur.....
