Chapter 3
🌹🌹🌹By the time I got back to the Bangtan estate, the sun was already beginning to set over the horizon. The sky took on a crisp and fresh midnight black, a beautiful sight to see as it had been cloudy the past few nights. Throughout the day, it didn't occur to me that I had been out of the house since the late mid-morning. However, thinking back to it, being out in the real world was far better than being stuck in that stuffy mansion. Keeping track of time wasn't of concern for me these days, I was strictly following my own schedule and agenda. I am currently concerned about how my sisters were doing- as I had not seen them for a while- and what was next on Crimson's hit list. However, what my brother thought of my personal activities didn't have a place in my mind, it was the least of my concerns.
While Namjoon had his own matters to take care of, I was no different; we were both adults with our own lives and our own problems. Finding Taehyung had been the most important things to me since the accident, aside from hanging Robyn's head above the club's third-floor fireplace. Despite the rumors Hyungsik told me about, I wasn't going to stop until I for the answers I'm looking for; the mafia's status on him wasn't going to prevent me from continuing. Though it was most likely Namjoon's decision to brandish the love of my life as a traitor, I do still care about my brother. It just that it feels we weren't as close as I thought we were. Perhaps when we were younger, our relationship was what some people might call "sibling goals." However, as we grew older and seen the bloody truth with our own eyes, the dynamic between us changed dramatically, and neither of us could keep up. I was afraid that there was no fixing our relationship.
Hyungsik emitted a soft sigh as he pulled his car up to the front doors of the mansion, and I turned to him with a raised eyebrow. Even underneath the lack of light surrounding us, I could tell that his week-long splurge of pulling all-nighters and running on coffee was catching up with him. Throughout the day, I noticed the growing bags underneath his eyes, as well as how ghostly his skin looked. Despite his condition, he continued to work and push himself past far beyond his limits. Hyungsik continued to keep Crimson informed, he kept me updated on Taehyung's possible whereabouts. Even with all that, he still managed to monitor Robyn's movements. I admired his ability and commitment and ability to stay awake for longer periods of time, but that doesn't mean he can continue without sleep for the rest of his life.
"Oppa, you should sleep," I said, wrapping Chopa's leash around my hand.
"You know how I am Sae-Young," he wagged his index finger at me. "Leaving tasks unfinished makes my skin crawl."
I rolled my eyes at the sight of my friend laughing lazily and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I know you're worried about me, but I'll be okay," he reassured me. "If anything, you should go inside before I hear an earful from Hoseok, or worse, your brother."
Stifling a laugh, I ushered Chopa out of the car first, she hopped right off of my lap and landed directly on the walkway. Once she was firmly on the ground, I stepped out myself and grabbed my belongings.
"If you need anything, don't hesitate to call me, okay?" he said as I turned around to say my goodbyes.
"Thanks, oppa."Once I heard the loud roar of Hyungsik's car fade down the mile-long driveway, I made my way towards the mansion's front doors. Using the key Hoseok gave me last night, I went inside the house, almost shocked by the amount of darkness flooding the place. After closing the door, I felt around the wall trying to find the light switch, successfully finding it before tripping over a bench set up in the foyer. Groaning while holding my knees, I looked around the now lit mansion, spotting no one else inside. I could only assume that everyone had gone out for a mission or something. Usually, at this time, the boys would be up to their routine shenanigans. Whether it be training in the basement, planning for the next mission or sneaking snacks from the kitchen, there would always be people up and about the house. When I walked inside, I expected Hoseok or some of the younger members to greet me, but it seemed that no one would greet me at all tonight.
After freshening up and changing into something more comfortable, I tucked myself into bed and settled under the cold blankets. Not too long after settling down, Chopa climbed up the pet stairs beside my bed and sat down into a sploot. She rested her muzzle on top of my thigh and closed her eyes. While she took her nap, I stayed awake, pushing the thoughts of sleep from my rattled brain. Resting on top of my stomach was my laptop, the screen flooded with tabs upon tabs of information. There was no doubt that my eyes had a reflection of my screen, anyone could tell that I was solely focused on reading through everything.
Earlier today, Hyungsik kindly transferred all of his accumulated data to me, as he had no use of it any longer. In all actuality, I was looking to analyze the data further. I wanted to make sure that I had a grasp of this update's information, just in case it may become useful in the future. Unfortunately after looking over the files for the hundredth time, there was nothing I didn't already know. Nothing was left untouched, and what was to be seen was already seen. Out of pure boredom, I explored the web and found an article to read. I read through the same newspaper article from Daegu over three times, not knowing what else to do until I fell asleep.
"Serial killer Vante continues to terrorize the streets of Daegu," I read aloud for Chopa to listen this time. "The body of Bently Christianson was recently found behind a 7-11 convenience store along Gyeongsang Gamnyeong-gil street."
Despite reading the report for the fourth time now, my mind finally paused at the name mentioned. Keeping the thoughts of freaking out at bay, I flipped back to the live list Hyungsik gave me and frantically scrolled through it.
"Bently... Bently... Bently- there!"
Right before my very eyes, the status beside Bently's name changed from alive to big bold dead. It seemed that Hyungsik saw this article as well and changed the branding.Slamming my laptop shut, I placed it on the nightstand and laid down. Pulling the blankets up to my chin, I stared up at the ceiling.
"Vante..." I whispered before drifting off to sleep.
Don't forget to ask questions for my upcoming Q&A!
