Chapter 8
🌹🌹🌹Erika's POV
Sitting in the corner of the new baby room was a vintage wooden rocking chair with plush cushions, begging to be sat in. I gave in to the temptation and took a seat, falling into the soothing swaying motion. The newest addition to the Crimson family was due in less than a couple of months, to say that everyone was excited is an understatement. The others have watched with wonder and awe as the baby grew quicker than we realized. Yoongi and I have been preparing for the baby's arrival ever since we found out, and it has been the ride of a lifetime. Many times during the past seven and a half months, both Yoongi and I have had doubts about whether or not we would be good parents. However, everyone constantly reassured us that this baby would have the best life ahead of him. In all honesty, we believe them.Deep down in my heart, I do wish that our future child wouldn't come this soon. To think that my first child could possibly be in danger due to this war, it was heartbreaking. An innocent baby thrown into the underground within days of his birth, the very thought of it was difficult to swallow. Once everyone looked past the arrival of a newborn and realized that fact, the suggestion of Yoongi and I feeling to a place untouched by the war took the air out of my lungs. How could they advise such a thing? Did they really think leaving them behind was the best idea? I understood that the baby was the most important thing besides this conflict, but I am the leader of this sisterhood, I can't just leave them in a desperate battle. Guilt would swallow me whole if I'm sitting in an isolated and peaceful cottage, and I learn that something has happened to them.
I couldn't do that. I can't break my promise to HyeJung Unnie. I swore to her that I wouldn’t ever abandon the girls, and I intend to keep that promise.
“Baby, I made you some tea,” Yoongi announced while walking into the room.
His soft voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I gave him a smile. Yoongi handed me a mug of green tea, and I hummed at the pleasant smell flowing through my nostrils. As I took a sip of my hot beverage, Yoongi pulled a stool up to sit beside me and continue his own cup of coffee.
“Why the caffeine?” I giggled, combing my hand through his messy hair.
“Work for the boys,” he sighed. “Although, I would rather spend the night with you and little peanut.”
"He's been kicking a lot," I announced, feeling his feet underneath my skin. "He's running out of room."Yoongi set his mug on the dresser nearby and pressed his ear against my belly. He placed his hands on my stomach, most likely to feel our son moving about inside me. I could feel the smile on his face grow wider as peanut was interacting with his father. A pure feeling of happiness coursed through my veins; the love of my life was admiring our creation of life and it brought me immense joy and purpose. I knew Yoongi felt the same, he was always going on and on about how excited to see our baby boy and hold him in his arms after so long.
“You know, we haven’t decided on a name,” he reminded me after pressing a kiss onto my belly. “I guess once he’s here, we can decide.”
A sudden knock on the door caught our attention, and we immediately spotted our maknae and Hyungsik in the doorway. I was about to greet them with a smile until I saw the hesitant look on Sae-Young’s face, which immediately caused concerned to flood my mind. Normally she was confident and well balanced when she entered a room, but this time was drastically different.
“Unnie, Oppa, can we come in?” she asked, her voice slightly shaky.
“Of course,” Yoongi responded. “What’s on your mind?”Sae-Young pulled up a stool from beside the brand new crib and took a seat. Meanwhile, Hyungsik shut the door behind him, crossed his arms and leaned back against the wall. Sae-Young took a deep breath and looked me straight in the eyes. I was taken aback by the intensity of her gaze, which immediately drew some concern.
“Unnie, I would like for your permission to go to Daegu with Hyungsik Oppa.”
I raised my eyebrow as the man in question nodded his head.
“What do you plan on doing there?”
“We have a lead on Taehyung,” he said suddenly, surprising Yoongi, myself and even Sae-Young.Sae-Young whipped her head around quickly, her eyes open wide. Hyungsik then went on to explain what has been going on between the two of them. It was odd to hear that they decided to keep information on Taehyung’s whereabouts confidential. That was until they mentioned the mafia branding him as a traitor, supposedly anyways. Yoongi, however, didn’t take this news too well. If anything he was livid.
“This can’t be true- it can’t be!” he snapped, running up to Hyungsik and grabbing a hold of his shirt. “They wouldn’t just do that!”
Hyungsik’s expression was unreadable as he stared down at Yoongi. I admired his composure, despite the anger radiating from the younger’s shaking body. Taehyung is family to the boys, Yoongi’s rage was warranted- his attention had been so absorbed into the arrival of our baby, he has fallen behind with mafia matters, including this rumor. I didn’t know how to feel about this personally. What was the point of brandishing him that way? He’s been a part of their family for years, he’s proven his loyalty and was a brother to them!
“Yoongi,” Hyungsik said in a soft voice, putting his hands on his shoulders. “I understand that this is hard to stomach, but all I can say is that it’s a rumor. Nothing is confirmed yet.”
Yoongi stared back at Hyungsik for a few seconds before releasing his hold.
“What will you do if you find him?” he asked, turning to Sae-Young, tears visible in his eyes.
“I don’t know,” she replied. “I can’t force him to come back. I just hope that he does.”
“When do you leave?” he asked.
“We were planning for the day after tomorrow,” Hyungsik replied.
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I sighed. Knowing my little sister and how stubborn she can get sometimes, she was going to sneak out with Hyungsik. I appreciated that she respects my authority and asked me before possibly disobeying me.
“Give me a list of everything you will need, I will arrange everything before you leave,” I surrendered. “But you better bring him back. I would like to have a few words with him.”Sae-Young suddenly ran up to me, throwing her arms around my shoulders.
“Thank you Unnie~” she chimed happily.
I let out another sigh and returned her hug.“Just be safe, okay? It will break my heart if you don’t come back.”
