Chapter 6
🌹🌹🌹Chopa’s warm body rested on my lap, her small body curled up into an adorable donut. A small smile was present on her muzzle, it was obvious that she felt content with the peaceful serenity floating about. We were both enjoying ourselves on the third-floor balcony, watching the newest sunset meet the darkening horizon. I had almost forgotten what a true sunset looked like. I’ve forgotten that earthly limitations couldn’t tame the sky from transitioning through a unique sequence of bright colors.
During my cursed stay at the Bangtan estates, my soul felt trapped. Through the windows of the mansion, the previous dusks I’ve watched were dull and lacked striking vibrancy. It was almost as if being behind those damning walls drained the life and color out of my soul. I was living in a world of black and white, a reality that I knew didn’t want me as a permanent resident. It was in my blood to crave excitement and adventure, but being restricted from leaving the estate was terribly suffocating and unfair. To think that my own brother would impose such a rule on me was cruel, just what was he trying to do by keeping me behind those walls?
The doors behind me suddenly slid open, snapping me out of my deepening thoughts. My shoulders dropped into a relaxed posture, and I turned around to greet Hoseok and Prince who was at his feet. I eyed the two white mugs in his hands, watching wisps of white steaming hovering above. Hoseok gave me a small smile before handing me a mug and taking a seat in the chair beside me. Prince made himself comfortable as well, laying against Chopa’s back and snuggling into her before taking a nap himself. I took a quick sip of the hot chocolate in my mug, humming in satisfaction from the amazing taste.
Hoseok’s handmade hot chocolate was always my favorite hot beverage, especially during the colder months. Whenever we were in the mood, we would sneak into the kitchen for a midnight batch. From beside me, I could hear Hoseok’s rambunctious laugh; I turned to him with a raised eyebrow and he pointed at my mouth. He was index finger was directed towards my newly grown mustache of whipped cream. Suppressing my own embarrassed chuckles, I wiped the cream away and took another sip.
Hoseok had done so much for me in the past few months, I’ve lost count of all the times he went out of his way to make sure I was doing okay. Though I didn’t want to say it out loud, he has been more of a brother to me than Namjoon within the same time span. He literally took on Namjoon’s role as an older brother and looked after me all this time, all while performing his duties as the leader’s right-hand man. He was constantly concerned about my well being and would even go as far as to disobey Namjoon and bring me home so that I would be happy. Hoseok was loyal to his brotherhood, but he hated to see his loved ones be in a state of hurt and despair. For that, he would go against the mafia within a heartbeat if it meant the people he cared about were happy and safe.
I owed Hoseok big time.
Prince, whom I was fast asleep suddenly lifted his head, the pup’s ears perked up in alert. Chopa was awoken by her best friend’s sudden awareness and was interested as well. Despite their short legs, they jumped right off of my chair and sprinted back inside. Hoseok and I looked at each other in confusion before getting up and following the pair of canines. The moment we got down to the main floor, I couldn’t help but run towards the familiar faces standing by the door.
Multiple pairs of arms enclosed around me, embracing me in a bubble of warmth that had been missing from my life for a few months. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I hugged the girls, where I was finally able to let go of all my pent up emotions.
“Aw, our baby is crying,” Erika Unnie said, taking her turn to wrap her arms around me.
For the hundredth time in my entire life, I was incredibly relieved to see them once again. When I was still at the hospital, they would always come to visit and keep me company. However, once I involuntarily moved into the estates, their workload piled up and they needed to sort that out first. I understood that protecting our territory was important, so I’m ecstatic that they’re good and well.“Are you staying with us Sae-Young ah?” Eun-Lee Unnie asked.
“Yes, Hobie Oppa told me that I’ll be resuming my residence here,” I replied while trying not to hiccup.
Hoseok threw his arm over my shoulders, playfully ruffling my hair with a cheeky smile.
“Munchkin will be much happier here,” he added. “The cloud that was following her around is no longer around, and she can breathe much easier now.”
“Does Namjoon know?”
“He won’t miss anything,” Hoseok scoffed. “He’s practically living in his office.”A frustrated sigh threatened to leave my throat, however, I held it back with a semblance of grace. Everyone except Namjoon knew that I was going to leave the estate today and move back into the club. In fact, they were all very supportive of my decision. They could easily see that staying there was damaging my health and slowing my recovery. Before Hoseok and I left, they were all gathered outside to send me off and wish me well, everyone except my brother. It was likely that he wouldn’t ever even know that I was gone, as he never leaves his office anymore. As sad as it may sound, I don’t think he would even miss me. Whatever his issue was, I wasn’t going to let it be my problem anymore.
I was home with my family, and I’m happy.
