Seokjin was rushing around the precinct in a panic, the captain on his phone in one hand, a cup of tea in the other. To say everyone was stressed was a major understatement. Stress radiated off of the precinct, tension being the next most overwhelming feeling.
There was no sign of Jungkook coming back and, at the moment, no one knew where he was or the condition he was in. Everyone was worried, as he was their best detective. Although no one but Jimin was truly close with him, they all felt somewhat in touch. After all, most had worked with him since the beginning.
"Yes sir, yes, I know we were, yes but he must have slipped out, yes sir, no sir, right away sir", Seokjin said before hanging up and sighing heavily.
"So?", Taehyung asked. Seokjin held up a finger, signaling him to wait. He sat down at his desk and grabbed his desk phone, dialing a number.
"I need you to hack Detective Jeon's phone and get his location as quickly as you can please. It's very critical that you do this quickly. Thank you", he said before hanging up. He sighed and rested his head on the desk.
"Nothing?", Taehyung asked.
"Not yet. I had to talk to the captain before I could request the technology department to hack Jeon's phone", Seokjin sighed. Taehyung nodded and the two waited for about ten minutes before Seokjin's desk phone began ringing again," Detective Seokjin... okay, thank you"
"Where is he?", Taehyung asked as Seokjin hung up the phone.
"The same rec center where his family was killed", Seokjin said, running to get his keys and coat, Taehyung doing the same," Let's move"
Taehyung nodded and quickly ran out with Seokjin. They both ran to the parking lot, taking the stairs instead of the elevator. They then got in Seokjin's car and began driving quickly to where Jungkook's location said.
---
Jungkook was sitting in his car in the same spot he had been the day he went to that family reunion. The memory of that day came over him like a giant wave, drowning him with each second it stayed. He looked down at his phone, seeing the text that Jackson had sent.
He had requested them to meet here, and Jungkook worried he knew why. He was going to be prepared and he wouldn't be another victim of Jackson. He took a deep breath as he stared at the building, even more images of the scene he had walked in on flashing in front of his vision.
He had hoped to never return to this place, the place where all bad things seemed to happen to him. This place haunted his past and his nightmares. He had to wonder if it would haunt his future too. It certainly had the potential to. He never expected going back in to be easy, but it was harder than he thought.
He had assumed that since it had been years, it would sting, he wouldn't want to, but he wouldn't hesitate to get out of the car and go in to do whatever business he came there to do. It wasn't like he would go there for fun. Either way, he was a grown adult now, one that had to face his problems and fears head on.
He gathered up his courage and got out of the car. He slowly walked up to the building, his anxiety growing with each step he took. When he finally got inside, he felt tears well up in his eyes. He looked to the side and saw Jackson coming out of the shadows, the lights off, just like the first time they had been here.
Jackson wasn't stupid. He knew the exact effect that being here would have on Jungkook, and he loved that he had the power to evoke it. He didn't need to look at the detective for more than a few seconds to realize he was already in the state of mind that Jackson had planned for all along: misery.
With all the memories, current day problems, and the circumstances in which he was here, Jackson couldn't blame him. Now, Jackson wouldn't have originally planned on meeting here had Jungkook not been stronger than he used to be, both physically and mentally. It would be much easier to complete the task at hand if Jungkook was in a weakened state.
"Returning to the scene of the crime, are we?", Jungkook asked, choking back tears.
"You know that's how I play the game", Jackson chuckled darkly.
"So, someone hired you?", Jungkook asked, remembering what he had said on the phone before. Jackson being hired was new information to him.
"I thought you were smarter, considering you just found that out, you obviously don't remember what I said before I left", Jackson smirked.
"Well, sorry. I was a little busy seeing my family's dead bodies and all!", Jungkook said sarcastically. Jackson just chuckled darkly and shook his head.
"I said I gotta pay the bills doll face. You think I'd do this for free? No, I don't have a problem with you or your family, I just have to complete the job I was paid to do", Jackson shrugged.
"I was set up by you though, so if you're asking to be forgiven, tough shit. It's not happening", Jungkook scoffed. Jackson shrugged. They could both hear Taehyung and Seokjin pulling up outside. Jackson knew he didn't have much more time.
"Didn't figure, but...", he said, holding his hands behind his back," I gotta finish the job"
After that, it was like everything went in slow motion. Just as Taehyung and Seokjin ran in, Jackson pulled out his gun, shooting Jungkook in the chest within a split second. Taehyung watched as Jungkook fell to the ground. He felt his heart crack.
"No!", he screamed. He ran to Jungkook's side as Jackson sprinted out, Seokjin running after him. Taehyung knelt down and leaned over Jungkook, caressing the sides of his face, not knowing what else to do," Stay with me, Jungkook"
"I lost him", Seokjin panted as he ran back in a minute later.
"Call for help!", Taehyung cried, Seokjin already getting out his phone to call 911 and for backup from the precinct.
"We have an officer down, I repeat officer down!"
