Chapter 13: A Break in the Chaos

Jungkook took a deep breath as he got out of his car. Today was his first day back and he was nervous to say the least. But it was his job and he loved it. He couldn't let the nervousness of seeing Taehyung get in his way.

He had woken up to a call about a body drop, so he had driven straight to the crime scene, a small children's park in the woods. Looking at all the news reporters, officers, and medical staff from the morgue gave him a weird feeling of comfort. He couldn't help but smile, happy he would be getting back into a routine.

"So, how does it feel to be back to regularly scheduled programming?", a voice belonging to Taehyung asked from behind Jungkook, making the latter jump. He shrugged it off with a soft laugh as he surveyed the scene before him once again.

"It feels... good", he concluded with a smile. Taehyung began walking with him to where Jimin was knelt as their conversation continued.

"I guarantee by next week, if we missed anything related to your case, it will make itself known so we can solve it. Life always seems to leave you alone for a little bit, then, just when everything is going right, bam! Life takes a swing at you, punches you right in the dick, or the tit I guess if you're a girl, just like when Jackson got out of jail", Taehyung said, mocking a punch.

"That's...", Jungkook paused to think of the correct words," one way to put it"

"Hey you! It's great to see you back in the field", Jimin's voice squealed as he ran up to the two, giving Jungkook a hug.

"It's great to be back", Jungkook giggled at his friend, the sound of his giggle making Taehyung's heart do flips," What do you have for us?"

"A body", Jimin said simply.

"Ha ha, but for real", Taehyung smiled softly.

"Oh alright", Jimin sighed dramatically before giving them a smile and throwing Jungkook a little wink after looking at Taehyung, making the brunette turn red, as he led them to the body," Victims name is Lia Homes, twenty five. Killed by a single GSW to the chest"

"Where exactly on the chest?", Taehyung asked.

"Around the left breast", Jimin said as he wrote on his clip board.

"Told you", Taehyung said, looking at Jungkook, and pointing to the body," Life"

"Death", Jungkook said, pointing at the body as well. They both let out a laugh as Taehyung rolled his eyes. Everyone seemed to be in good humor today, given that Jungkook was back.

"Jeon's right", Jimin interjected, ruining the moment between the two," By the way, how does it feel to be back?"

"Good", Jungkook smiled, his eyes darting to Taehyung for a second before looking back at the ground, his cheeks heating up again," Now, do we have Unie's canvassing the area?"

"Of course", Jimin said with a cheeky smile.

"Good, we'll see you back at the precinct", Jungkook said quickly before pulling Taehyung to the car by his arm, knowing the likeliness of Jimin embarrassing him was high if he didn't.

Jungkook sat at his desk at the precinct, smiling at the comfort of being back there. It felt like home to him. He looked up at the sound of Taehyung walking over to the desks, sitting down on Jungkook's. He opened a file folder that Jungkook assumed contained the vic's information.

"Vic has no remaining family, no boyfriend or husband, not even any recorded friends. She works at the 99-cent store. That's a sorry life", Taehyung sighed, shaking his head some.
