I am Drake "Drago" Ward of the House of Ward in England...about five hundred years ago.
I crossed the seas to the Americas for a better "life" three hundred years ago.
Today, I run a successful business with my partner, Dr. Darius Chiron. Instead of...
"Yes, Drago," Philip replied with a small bow. I smiled at the human government team. We didn't need them. Philip and I were more than enough to catch this one. I did understand why they couldn't catch her, though.
"How long will she be out?"
"Eight hours, sir."
"Ah, more than enough time to get her to the compound." I carried her to the van and laid her in back. "Anyone want to dress her?" I laughed. "Forget it. She'll do it when she wakes." I looked at them all. "Why don't all you little mongrels watch her in case her gifts override the drug? I need leverage on her. Philip?" He fell into step with me as we moved on.
"What's our next move?" Philip asked.
"It's obvious, isn't it?" I chuckled. "Classic martyring mother. She led us away from that brood of offspring she's been caring for." I was worried, but I couldn't show it.
"Psychic children on the loose?"
"Psychic children on the lam," I corrected. "These children are being cared for, led." I frowned. "They are trying to get to Canada, where we can't touch them. Damn Canadians are giving amnesty and sanctuary from us."
"The vampires up there--"
"Will not help," I growled with frustration, though I thought it was a good thing. "There must be some sort of deal, must be, but until then, we've got to catch them before they cross." I looked to the skies. "And we're losing night."
"Toronto?" Philip guessed.
"That would be ideal, big city," I thought aloud. "but a long way away. They want to cross by dawn, I know it. You said she had something in her bag?"
"Let's check the map, here."

"Underground Railroad?" I frowned over it. "There's so many routes."
"That hasn't been used in almost two centuries."
"Are you sure about that?"
We were going high speed along the highway. I could almost feel....her....as I held the map, I knew instinctively that Tigris showed this map to a young woman. But she traced multiple routes...almost as if she knew that I had the gift of touching things and getting memories from them. It was my dark gift, that and some telekinesis. I envied Tigris's power-I wanted it, and I was so close now...
"Maybe we should turn around."
I looked at Phillip like he was crazy. "We will do no such thing!"
"We are losing light, Drago." His fear was obvious. "Everyone else is gone now."
"There are shelters for our kind in the territory, Phillip," I informed. "Sometimes our kind were offered slave sacrifices just to stay away from the towns." I laughed at Phillip's reaction of outrage, though he was silent. "It was a different time. We saw a way to survive, and we let the people who made those decisions make those decisions."
