"Have a good trip, Cal. Text me everyday, ok?" Joy mumbled against Calum's shoulder as the two hugged tightly.
Calum's parents, Luke, Ashton, Michael and Calum were all crowded around the Hood's front door, seeing Calum and Michael off. Their bags were all packed in the taxi that was waiting at the end of the driveway, now everyone was just saying goodbye.
Calum nodded, squeezing his mum one last time before pulling away. He gave her an excited smile and she returned a halfhearted one. She wouldn't get to see her son for a least a month and it was extremely overwhelming, seeing she had taken care of him everyday since he lost his voice.
Michael was in Ashton's arm's, hugging the curly haired boy tightly. "I'm gonna miss you guys," He muttered, referring to Luke who was standing right next to Ashton.
"Don't cry on me, dude." Ashton chuckled, patting Michael's back as he pulled away.
Luke rolled his eyes at Ashton. "Oh, shut up, Ashton." He said, pulling Michael into his arms as well. "We'll miss you too, Mikey."
After everyone was finished saying goodbye, Calum and Michael linked arms and made their way down to the taxi. "I'm so excited." Michael chirped as he opened the door for Calum.
Calum nodded in agreement, climbing into the taxi. Michael climbed in after them then settled back into the seat as the driver started driving towards the airport.
The drive to the airport took an hour and Calum was practically falling asleep on Michael's shoulder when they got there. Nonetheless, they both dragged their suitcases up to the airport and up to the counter where you got your tickets.
Michael did a lot of Calum's things for him since Calum had troubles communicating with the employees behind the counter and even if he didn't, he was so tired that he was in a drunken state.
It seemed like forever before they handed off their bags, except their carry-ons, and got onto the plane. Michael and Calum took their spots together and Michael let Calum had the window side since this would be Calum's first time on a plane.
"Please fasten your seat belts, we will be taking off shortly." The man on the announcements informed and Calum looked over at Michael with wide eyes.
The week before, Calum had been beyond excited for his first plane ride but now he looked terrified. Without Calum saying anything, Michael could already tell every bad scenario was rushing through his brain. What if the plane crashed? What if Calum's seat belt got stuck when they were evacuating the plane? What if the plane completely burst into flames?
Michael reached out and held onto Calum's hand. "Don't worry, babe. Just squeeze my hand if you're scared, alright?" He assured. Calum's face turned bright red at the pet name, though Michael had hardly realized he used it, and nodded.
The stewardess' checked up and down the rows of the plane to make sure everyone was all buckled into their seats then disappeared to the front of the plane as it slowly began taking off.
Calum squeezed his eyes shut in fear as the plane drove down the runway, squeezing Michael's hand so tightly he was afraid he'd break it. He bounced his foot, tapped his other hand, told himself reassuring things in his head and did practically anything that would distract him from what was going on.
A bit later, he felt Michael nudge his side. "Cal, you can open your eyes now." He whispered softly, stroking Calum's hand soothingly with his thumb.
Unsurely, Calum peeked open his eyes and sure enough, everything was ok. Everyone was alive, the plane was still in one piece and he wasn't missing any body parts. He let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, loosening his grip on Michael hand but not letting go because he liked having physical contact with Michael.
"Look out the window." Michael suggested, nudging Calum softly again and nodding his head towards the window.
Calum didn't want to look out the window. It was like asking a person who was afraid of heights to climb a skyscraper then look down. But, Calum didn't want to upset Michael by rejecting him so he very unvoluntarily looked out the window- and man was he glad he did.
The sky was a pinkish, yellow colour as it was the evening and they were so close to the clouds that Calum was convinced he could reach out and touch them. He'd never found an interest in the sky but being up here at such a beautiful time of the day was spectacular.
Too lazy to pull out his notepad, Calum took out his phone and texted Michael 'it's beautiful'.
Calum didn't turn to see Michael's reaction, but he could practically feel the boys smile on the back of his head. "Not as beautiful as you." Michael mumbled quietly, obviously not meant for Calum to hear but Calum heard anyways.
His cheeks burnt crimson for the second time and his hand, that was still clinging onto Michael's, squeezed lightly. This was definitely going to be one of the best couple months ever.
