She couldn't do this. No matter how much she wanted to, she had a life to live somewhere else. She found a piece of paper, and wrote a note to the one pony she knew would stay with her son.
"Sunburst, as much as I want to stay and care for our son, I have a life of my own I need to return to. I apologize, but I hope you understand. You can raise Summer Flare to be a great pony, who will go on to do amazing things. But I cannot. Goodbye. -Sunset Shimmer."
She set the note on the dresser next to Sunburst's bed, then turned and walked away. She stopped by Princess Twilight's, telling her goodbye, then exited the pony world for the last time.
