Chapter 1: Take My Warning

"....... [F/N].... why are you still awake?"

As I was staring into the plain darkness, I suddenly heard Ai's soft voice from beside me. I looked at him, and his somewhat concerned teal eyes met mine.
"... what time is it?"
"12:54 am."
"..." I looked away, as I turned my back on him. "I'm just... not tired."
"... there is something more than that, I can tell." he sighed out from behind me.
"... it's nothing... just sleep, you have to get up earlier than me." I mumbled.
"..."
His arms slowly slipped around my waist, as he pulled me against his chest. "... What's wrong?"
"..."
"[F/N]. I won't stop asking you until you don't tell me."
"..." I sighed. "I'm just worried about... Eiji and the others, that's all."
"..." he let out a gentle sigh. "If Eiji would be in trouble, I'm sure you would be the first one he would run to."
".... you think so?" I slowly muttered, looking back at him. He smiled at me, kissing my forehead.
"I know so. You know that I don't lie, especially not to you. You trust me, right?"
I smiled back at him, wrapping my arms around him. "That's not even a question. I trust you more than anybody else."
"Good. Then calm down and sleep, okay?" I felt his lips press against my cheek this time. "Everything is okay and will be okay. You are overthinking things, as always."
".... yeah, probably." I sighed as I snuggled up to him and closed my eyes. "I just hope... that they are okay."
"They most certainly are. Now, sleep." he whispered at this point, his hand rubbing my back. I nodded, and soon enough, my consciousness faded away.

Opening my eyes, I find a strange feeling in my chest. Never-ending field, small flowers, a quiet melody.
I feel like I've been here before.
"[F/N]..."
Unlike last time, my emotions are present in me. I turn around. I see a woman walking towards me.
"Mom!!" I yell, running towards her. "Mom, what's going on?? This place, what's happening, I feel like there is something..."
"[F/N]... Listen to me," she says softly, yet seriously. "I came here to warn you."
".... Warn me?" I mutter, blinking in surprise. The uncomfortable feeling is growing in my chest even in this unreality.
"Something terrible is coming to get you and your friends, my dear. From this point, things will take a dark turn. Be wise - you will need to choose who to and who to not trust."
"... W-What? Mom, what's going on, I... don't understand..." I whisper. She looks at me sadly.
"Not everything is as it seems, honey. Be strong. I know you can get through it all."
With that, the world starts fading around me, as my mother starts walking away.
"Mom...? Wait!! I don't get it, please explain further - what are you talking about...!? Mom!!!"

"MOM!!"
My trembling hands clung onto the sheet, as I found myself sitting up and staring into the darkness. For a few seconds, I didn't know what was going on. I looked around myself, and I jumped at the cold fingers pressing against my neck.
"Your pulse is incredibly fast." a gentle voice said quietly. A second later, I found myself being hugged. "Did you have a nightmare?"
"....... W-What...?" I mumbled, looking up at Ai. "I... no, I... I don't know, Mom said..."
I trailed off. She warned me to watch out and choose who I trust. That something terrible is going to happen. I got a pit in my stomach.
"You are tense. What did you dream about?" Ai looked down at me.
".... It didn't... feel like a dream." I mumbled. "Mom told me to... watch out."
"... Your mother?" he tilted his head. "Watch out for what?"
".... I-I don't know. All she told me that something bad is going to happen."
"..." Ai soon let out a sigh. "I'm pretty sure this is your brain overthinking the HEAVENS case and making up things."
"... But..." I looked down. Meanwhile, Ai pulled me back on the bed and pulled the sheet back over me. "Calm down and sleep. Don't waste your energy on things like that."
"..."
To that, I didn't reply. Forcing my eyes closed, I clung onto the cyanette for dear life, trying to stop trembling and shush away my worried thoughts.
However, that night, I didn't get any more sleep.
