THREE WEEKS LATER
I never really found the right time to confront Dally if he saw the lovely gift his friend left or what to do about it. There was a lot going on with Dally and working double shifts to try stay on top of all the bills. Doctor Deacon forced Dal to go to physiotherapy a few times to make sure he could get around while adjusting to only one eye. Before you say anything it's not permanent, he still has the bandage on his eye most of the time so it doesn't get infected. After those three long weeks of me staying at home and Dally stuck in the hospital, Doctor Deacon finally discharged him. On one condition, Dally had to pass the eye exam or else they have to keep him. Like everything else going on wasn't enough I was freaking out that he would actually be finding those physiotherapy sessions useful. That day was nerve racking for both of us. I could even tell Dally was scared, well only as scared as he can be when it comes to himself. Once the Doc took the bandage off and let Dals eye adjust he checked him over. I really couldn't tell if Dally was joking about some of his answers or if his eyesight was just plain bad. I knew he could see just fine when Doctor Deacon removed the bandage because for the first time in weeks Dally cooly snuck a cocky wink when the Doc wasn't looking. Just as quick as we got Dally here I made sure I was quicker on getting him home.
Everything was slowly settling back in its places after Dal was home. Everybody except Darry, Dal, and I were back to our daily lives. I could tell Darry was getting impatient with me not talking to Dally about everything...But what can I say? I thought he deserved a little break after everything. Good thing Nancy was keeping him and the rest of the gang busy with details of the wedding happening in like a month since it's December. Anyways one day I was finally going to ask Dally when Eleanor calls saying she's coming to get the bridesmaids and bride to get final fittings done. Oh yeah I forgot to tell you how much the gang loves Nancy's maid of honour. Her names Tina, she came out for a weekend since that's the only time she has off from her job in California or whatever. God she was awful, such a tight ass like she only talked to Darry and Nancy, the rest of us were beneath her. She made Nancy change the bridesmaids dresses because she didn't like them. Now instead of a single strap dress we all had to wear strapless ones. I think the only person who was actually mad was Elenor because she worked so hard measuring everyone. Personally I couldn't care less, instead of a dress with a fitted top and straight gown it was more of a curve hugging one.
It was awful, like I couldn't breathe in it as it was so tight. Elenor refused to loosen it because that's just how it fit, I cursed out at her because my boobs looked like they would pop out any moment. All she did was take out a stitch in the back to give me a tiny bit more room. Than Tina had the nerve to say while maybe loose a pound or two before the wedding. I almost knocked her on her ass if Nancy didn't say I could go home and not wait for the rest of them. Elenor quickly slipped me out of the dress and hung it up when I glared at Tina before walking out. That dumb broad had some nerve, I'm just glad that I only have to see her one more time in my life and than if she's in town after that I'm hiding in my house. Back to the point I eventually was able to talk to Dally once I came back from the dress store Eleanor works at with my fitted dress.
"You gonna try it on for me?" Dally chuckled trying to cheer me up after that horrible experience.
"You'll see it at the wedding cuz that's the only time I'm gonna wear it again." I smiled hanging the dark purple dress up in our closet before digging around in the drawer trying to find that bullet.
"Lookin' for something?"
"Yeah I'm trying to find-" I said turning around to face Dally who was nonchalantly rolling the bullet between his fingers.
"When were you going to tell me you'd seen him?"
"That's not what happened. A few weeks back when it was your first day awake I came back to the hospital and you were knocked out from morphine. Doctor Deacon said that your friend left it when he was visiting you apparently but it was cut short when a nurse called security as he had a gun." I explained standing up and sitting on the bed.
"I know, I found it a few days ago and Darry told me. How you where so scared he had to come get you." Dally sat beside me, both of us staring at the bullet in his hands.
"Oh...it's just I don't know what to do in these situations Dally, especially when I don't know what is actually happening."
"I am sorry for dragging my demons into your life, it's not fair." I chuckled at the last part of what Dally said.
"We both know that's just life sweetie. Kicks our asses sometimes." I exhaled flopping onto my back staring at the ceiling. Dally stiffly laid beside me, I could feel his eyes on me. "You goin' to explain who this guy is or am I going to have to ask him myself?"
"It's not that easy Sar, the less you know the better."
"Dally we promised no secrets, this is serious. He might show up here again and not be interested in just watching." I said looking over at Dally, his jaw clenched.
"His name is Andy, but everyone calls him Ace. He runs a major gang in New York in the Broncs. They are the head of most drugs, money, and corruption that happen there. Ace's Spades is the gang I was with there, those guys who came by last year where some of his pons." I grabbed his hand.
"I was trying to survive there and that was the way, be loyal to them. We did bad things, things that I'd rather not repeat and can't ever repeat. Long story short is that I saw something I wasn't supposed to see, Ace sent a man hunt after me so I ran. Ran all the way here, not daring to look back. He was like a father figure to me for years, taught me everything I know and than some. It's kinda messed up that I still refer to him as a father figure but in his messed up way he seemed to care for me more than my old man ever did. That man is death on two legs, he's killed men, women, hell even kids in order to keep his reign. Now I guess that his boys didn't come back from last time he wanted to do it himself."
"What are we going to do?"
"There's no 'we' in this. I'll fix it, just let me heal up for a few more weeks and I'll do what needs to be done. Besides we got time as if he was going to kill me, he'd taunt me more, he likes to leave things like bullets and once you get a card your times up." Dally moved my hair behind my ear.
"I really don't like the idea of you doing this alone." I mumbled knowing that this was dumb to just let him go after the guy that scared him so bad he ran away all the way to Oklahoma.
"Just gotta watch our backs and keep our heads down, that's all we can do for now."
"He ran you across the country before Dallas, he'll do it again." I lectured getting up and looked down at him. Dal huffed getting up with me when he grabbed my arm and looked me dead in the eyes.
"Let him try because this time I ain't leaving here unless I'm in a pine box." I gulped as an unsettling shiver ran dow my spine. "I love you too much to put you through having to leave. There's too much that could go wrong."
"Than don't let it happen."
"I don't plan on it." He stated but I cracked a smile hearing that hint of his cheeky side. Dally grabbed my face with his hands wiping some tears that I didn't notice had started to fall with his thumbs.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
