Sara's POV
Ever since I came home last night Dally's been acting a bit strange. I don't think any of the boys really notice it as much as I do. It's little things he's been doing like zoning out, or every time he walks by a window he scans around. He always snaps back to his old self if someone asks him a question to try act normal. Dally even asked Elenor if she would bring Two shopping with us as sort of double date I'm guessing. I knew he just did it becomes he knows Elenor would pick new clothes for me and Two would keep him company. Before I knew it Eleanor had this whole evening planned out that if we both got off work for three to get ready and be able to go to the stores before they close around seven. Sure enough I didn't even make it into the front door after work when I was greeted by Two and Dally in the living room and Elenor dragging me by the arm to my room.
There was clothes scattered everywhere across the bed. I stood there amazed that she made such a mess out of my already chaotic room. She was a drill sergeant, I couldn't move from a stool she brought until she was done doing my makeup and hair. I tried to get Dally or Two to grab me something to drink but she won't let them give it to me as my lips were still drying. Eleanor told me that I'd have to get use to it because I will have to get all dolled up again for the wedding. I begged her to dial it back, I think she wanted to do her makeup routine on me. She had a bright red lip stick, full mascara, eyeshadow, and foundation on. It looked really good but I didn't care for that much effort. I tried to tell her that I don't like wearing makeup and that this would most likely be the first time Dally's ever seen me wear so much in all the time we've known each other. However she agreed that I look better with mascara and eyeliner, apparently it makes my icy blue eyes pop. I lucked out when Two started whining to his girl to hurry up so I told her don't bother with eyeshadow and foundation. She agreed with him since she still hasn't helped me pick an outfit out yet.
I was like her Barbie doll I tell you, she had me try on all my jeans, even a pair of leather pants that were my mothers. Eleanor tried to get me to wear a skirt and I automatically shut her down as it was snowing out. Elle finally caved and let me wear my jeans, with a tight red tank top and my leather jacket. I was just about to leave the room to escape my captivity when she thought maybe she should change. I thought her black flare dress pants, with a floral blouse, and heels, looked just fine. It looked great with her curly hair that she left down, plus she had this nice tan jacket. I was saved with the boys saying it's already half past four and they dropped the twins at Darry's with Soda. I slipped my cowboy boots on and ran to the door to wait with the guys instead of listening to more fashion with Elle. Dally pulled me to him and whispered into my ear that I looked hot, which made my face go red. I smiled looking down at his arms wrapped around the front of my torso when I noticed his knuckles were all bruised up. I didn't want to start asking questions to ruin the evening Dally planned out for all of us so I pushed that thought aside.
"Elle for gods sake, you look fine come on or else I'm leavin' yay here." Two hollered when I heard Eleanor yell at him to cool it. Finally when we were all able to hop into Twos car I heard two mumble 'about damn time woman' which made me laugh.
"Where we goin' first?" Elle cheerfully asked as Two shifted into drive.
"Don't matter." I responded digging in my back pocket to try fix the way I was sitting on my wallet.
"How 'bout the Dingo?" Two cracked a laugh, Eleanor playfully smacked his head.
"Let's go to the department store and then we can pop into Moody's beside it." Eleanor said vibrating in her seat.
I rolled my eyes as the three of us followed Eleanor into the store. It was called the 'Hills Department Store', it had tons of random stuff. Everything you could ask for was in this store. I knew Elle really wanted to go to the mall on the other side of town where she worked but she knew better than to go there. If we didn't get arrested for looking suspicious than it would of ended up the boys getting into a scrap. The Hills wasn't so bad just had way too many clothes. Two led Dal to the chairs by the fitting rooms as if it was routine for him at this point. I smiled to myself watching them both light a weed when Eleanor held out a pair of bell bottom jeans. I cautiously removed them from her hand so I could hold them, I then regretted agreeing to this shopping trip.
"Dallas said you needed some jeans. What kind do you need? Flare? Straight? Black?" Eleanor rambled on and on about all these different types of jeans I had to choose from.
"Umm well just regular ones, like I have."
"No, no those were guy jeans these are way different. Oh isn't this cute for me?" She pulled out a pair of light blue jeans.
"Yes you should take them." I nodded hoping she'd forget about me and my jeans.
"We are not even through the jeans Sar, we got the entire store yet."
I cursed in my head as we slowly made our way through the jeans, then the pants, the t-shirts, blouses, even the dresses and skirts. Eleanor had picked herself a pair of jeans, a few different blouses for her to wear to work, and a checkered skirt. I on the other hand found myself one nice pair of boot cut dark jeans and a dark green t-shirt since I've never had one before. Elle tried all of her stuff one in the time I got into mine and had to listen to Two crack some jokes about his experience so far. To be fair I really was trying to kill time so I wouldn't have to try on more when Eleanor tapped my shoulder and handed me three more jeans, an extremely low cut black long sleeved shirt, and a plaid skirt. Let's just say I was ticked I had to try everything on to show Eleanor, which would also mean the boys seeing like the low cut sleeved shirt was ridiculous. I think my complaining made Two enjoy it even more, like you could see my boobs, I mean they looked good but you seen a lot. Finally we were able to leave and give the boys our bags from the one store just so Elle could go into Moody's.
Moody's boutique was a cute little store. In the front there was some clothing then it changed to accessories like purses and jewelry. We looked around in the clothing section, Elle found both us tons of stuff to try on. I really didn't enjoy it what so ever because we had to walk through the purses and jewelry to get to the back and Elle was right in her element. She found necklaces, earrings, purses to go with literally everything. God it took forever to try it all on and honestly the guys did the right thing of not coming in here. Elle found herself a nice pink coat that would match one of her blouses she bought before, and a few necklaces also. I found a leather skirt I quite liked but it was a little expensive. Just to make Eleanor happy I told her I'm still deciding while she made me look at all the jewelry and purses with her.
"Hey when was the last time you got a new bra?" She randomly blurted out as I was trying on sunglasses.
"Excuse me?" She grabbed my hand and we went to the back of the store beside the fitting rooms where the underwear was.
"Come on I've never seen you get a new bra in all the time I've known yeah."
"I don't need one I got two at home, one black and one white."
"Yeah and how old are they? Do they even fit after so long? Just lift up your shirt so I can see and maybe I'll believe you." She crossed her arms, it was very unlike her.
"No way I'm tellin' you there fine."
"Okay I can play this game I'll just go find Dally and ask him." She smirked turnin to leave, I groaned and said fine because I didn't need Two bit hearing I bought a bra. Elle went to ask the lady working to size me since it's been awhile.
"You need a 34 DD, all these bras here." The lady said and walked away back to the till. Elle handed me a handful and told me to try them on and forced me to show her.
"What was the size of bra you were wearing before?" She just asked to be polite before she grabbed my bra I was wearing, as soon as she looked at it she laughed.
"How did you wear a C cup with your huge ass boobs?" Elle giggled.
"Okay so what it's been a long time since I've gotten a new bra, it's fine." I explained shrugging my shoulders.
"Well you better get at least two new ones my goodness Sara."
I rolled my eyes as Eleanor tried to get me to buy tons of bras. I grabbed one plain black one, a nude one, and a lace black one just because it was half off. As I paid for my bras, she paid for her coat and necklaces. I decided not to get the skirt since I got three bras. Anyways we found the two guys smoking in the car outside the store. They looked like they wanted to die, well Dally did but I think he either wanted to die or kill Two at this point.
"About time girlies imma hungry." Two snorted a laugh and drove off like a maniac to the Dingo.
"We woulda been faster if Sara wasn't so difficult." Eleanor bugged nudging me with her elbow. I rolled my eyes while the whole car laughed.
"Yeah yeah, maybe if I didn't have to try on the entire store."
"Awe you know you loved it, look at all the new things you bought." She smiled as Two pulled up and parked outside the Dingo.
"That's what you think."
"You just wait, one day shopping might grow on ya!" We both laughed getting out of the car and walking into the Dingo to grab our usual booth.
"Hey Sara!" A high pitched voice called out.
"Hiya Judy, how's a goin'?" I responded to the younger girl, she was a new hire at the Dingo.
"Not bad not bad, y'all ready for your usuals?" The cheery blonde asked taking out her note pad.
"My swell," Dally answered. "Unless.." He looked at all of us but we said it's fine.
"Okie dokie comin' right up." She clicked her pen and skipped away, I groaned in annoyance.
"What?" Daily shot me a weird look.
"Nothing just that she's so cheery, even more than you Elle...no offence but it's just annoying because it sounds so fake." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Okay grumpy." Two cracked as Judy brought our three cokes and a milk shake for Eleanor.
"Wait how did she know I wanted a milkshake?" Elle asked from across the table.
"I have a list of people I wrote down their usual orders in the back. It was mainly for when Shepard would stop in and argue with the other girls."
"Speaking of.." Two looked behind me at the door when he was cut off.
"Move it." Tim spat at me and pushed me closer to Dally. "So what's new everyone?"
"Tim mind goin' back to sit with your boys." Two said wrapping an arm around Elle. She didn't like Tim, no actually I think she is terrified of him.
"Shepard piss off." Dally growled at him, I shook my head.
"Can't I just say hi." He asked grabbing my coke and drinking some.
"Nice try Timothy, say what yay gotta say before you get hurt." I snapped grabbing my coke from him, I knew when I said that him and Dally glared at each other.
"Here's everyone's food," Judy stated handing everyone's food out before lowering her eyes. "Hi Mr.Shepard." All of us froze in confusion.
"What the hell!?"
"Tim what did you do now?"
"Nothin' me and blondie go way back." He chuckled grabbing some fries off my plate. "Go get the gangs order." He demanded and Judy basically ran away.
"So Shepards into blondes now huh?" Two chuckled before stuffing his face full of burger.
"He don't gotta type, as long as it's female it has his interest." Dal smirked, Tim reached over me and smacked his head. It was like a playful smack, which was odd since they always want to kill each other.
"Well guess I'll leave." He abruptly got up and left us alone to eat.
It felt weird not knowing why Dal and him acted like that. Maybe Dal didn't want to get into a fight in the Dingo since you usually get arrested because of Dee. However it felt even weirder that Judy addressed Tim so politely. Well I mean she's a thirteen year old providing for her family and he's like twenty. She does come from a nice family, her parents did raise her well as she's so well mannered, I guess. I might have to ask her if Tim's bothering her. Later, after all of us finished eating and Dally paid the bill we got up. Two wanted to take Elle to the movie theatre and Dally told me he had something else planned. I grabbed my two bags from the car and asked how we were getting to wherever Dal wanted to go. Well Tim was eavesdropping and said he could drive us only if I sat up front. Dally clenched his jaw and ordered him to drive us back home.
"So what's your deal with Judy?" I asked attempting to kill the time of the drive.
"Knew her older brothers."
"Doesn't she have only one." I looked over at him, Tim smiled.
"Yeah until he knocked up the other ones girl and jumped him." Dally laughed from the back seat.
"Jeez no wonder she's scared of you." I shook my head grabbing the door handle waiting for Shepard to pull up to the curb and park.
"Eh the kids fine, besides I'm always the bad guy."
"Cocky prick." Dal cursed as we got out of the car. Tim waved as he drove off while Dal just flipped him off. We walked into the house and I went to unpack my bags.
"No, don't even think of putting that stuff away, we are goin' to Bucks." Dal said grabbing the bags from me and throwing them onto the floor.
"You sure? You've been pretty stiff and limping around after today. You still are healing, I don't want you to suffer." He shrugged me off and responded with a few shots will fix it. "Fine, but do I have to tell Soda that we aren't coming home?"
"Well I wasn't going for the party I just got Shepard to distract Andy tonight. I wanted to take you since there's someone special in town." I raised my eyebrow at Dally who was dragging me out to the car.
"I see, who's in town?"
"I ain't tellin'." Dally smirked as he started the car.
I repeatedly questioned Dally about who was in town but he wouldn't budge. I knew Jamie was coming in closer to Christmas which was in two weeks, I guess he might come early. Dal walked me into Bucks and straight to the bar to get us a drink. Buck visited for awhile until it started to pick up for the party that happens every Friday here. However before he left to attend to the paying costumers he told Dally nine o'clock. When I asked him what that was about all he said was that's when we needed to get home.
"Is that when Andy's comin' back and you don't want to face him?"
"Sar, enough with this let's have some fun." Dal sighed and extended his hand for me to take.
I frowned knowing that it was hard for him to have Andy back in his life but followed him out onto the dance floor. Dal tried all evening to have a nice night out and I didn't want to ruin it. I think it made him feel better to see me happy and having fun. After a few more drinks and a ton of dancing we were both smiling. It was great seeing Dally like that, the last time I seen him so happy was months ago. We snuck upstairs to his room for a bit, until Shepard interrupted us.
"Tim.." I groaned covering myself up and facing the door.
"Jeez don't let me stop yay." He chuckled while Dally cursed throwing a pillow at him. "I just needed to grab something than you two can continue." Tim walked over to the old dresser that still stood in Dals old room. He opened a drawer and lifted a false bottom pulling out a heater and an envelope. Once he left I turned towards Dally who  was rubbing his head.
"Dallas... what the hell?"
"Before yay jump to conclusions let me explain." He pleaded as I hoped over him and pulled on my clothes. "Sara please stop." I went over to the dresser and pulled on my tank top.
"What can you say? How can you explain this?" I asked lifting the false bottom of the drawer, there was hundreds of dollars and another gun. I opened the next drawer and the next finding that they all contained a hidden compartment with cash, guns, hell I even found drugs.
"Sara it's not what it looks like." Dal jumped out of bed but I was furious. I couldn't believe he was involved with drugs, was he dealing? Using?
I stormed out to the bathroom and was about to wash my face with cold water as my face was flushed bright red. When I realized I couldn't as I had mascara and eyeliner on, I rubbed under neath my eyes from where it smudged. I pushed past Dallas who managed to get dressed and ran down to the bar. I needed to get home, I don't have the keys to the car and I ain't walking with Andy roaming around. I searched the crowded building for anyone to help me, I saw Tim by the jukebox. He didn't look to happy, but nevertheless I went up to him only to get pushed aside while he cursed out Curly's name and grabbed some of his boys. I cursed, great another Shepard family crisis I thought. I turned to get away to go outside when a strong hand grabbed my wrist.
"Dallas I'm not-" I began but was cut off when I faced the person holding me back.
"Oh not who you were expectin'? Sweetie it sounds like you're having troubles with dear old Dallas." Andy smirked still holding his hand tightly around my wrist.
"Let go of me!" I hissed and tried to push him away from me but his grip tightened.
"Shut up and stop making a scene, I just want to have a chat." He spat and pulled me towards him. I continued to push back with little success as he pulled me with him towards the back room. When all the sudden Dally grabbed him and slammed him against the wall by the shirt collar.
"Let go of her Andy." He growled, Andy released my wrist and without flinching raised his hands to the back of his head to reveal he was bleeding.
"Wow look at you all grown up. Guess you really do live up to the reputation yay got here." He smirked before looking over at me. Dally punched him and slammed him again to the walk.
"What did I say about going near her?"
"Dallas I don't want to embarrass you in front of all these people so let go of me and I'll let this one slide."
"Sara grab the gun from his waist band." Dal ordered not letting his eyes off him. I quickly retrieved it and held it in my hands not really knowing what to do next.
"I told you I've got eight bullets and tonight I already delivered one person in an ambulance for yay Dallas." Andy threatened as a little colour drained from Dally's face. "Hey sweetheart has he told you about that?" Dally punched him again this time harder causing blood to come from his nose. "How about the drugs? The lying?" Dal struck again and again but all Andy did was smirk, he was enjoying Dally lose control.
"You better not have done anything or I'll be back to kill your ass!" Dally pushed him to the ground and grabbed the gun. He opened the bullet chamber to see it was empty before he threw it at Andy who was on the ground laughing. He turned to me and grabbed my arm pulling me along with him to the car.
"Dallas what was he talking about? Where you going to shoot him in a room full of people?" I began to drill him when he pushed me into the car and slammed the door getting in.
"Be quiet..." Dal muttered speeding away from Bucks as I continued to ask him my questions. "For gods sake Sara shut the hell up!" He hollered taking his eyes off the road to meet mine. They were on fire with rage, so I bit my tongue to be silent while he drove. He pulled over at a convenience store and told me to get out. I followed him to the two pay phones on the side and handed me change.
"Call Darry." I nodded dialling the home phone number. Pony picked up asking why I called, I really didn't know what to ask so I just said we would be coming back later than expected and where the rest of the gang was. He told me that most were home expect for Two as he was with Elle at his house and Nancy was working. I spaced out listening to Dally saying last names.
"...Curtis? Cade? Shepard? Wright?... thanks." He cursed slamming the phone down to hang up and then hung mine up. I silently watched him, he was panting and sweating.
"Dal deep breaths you look like you are going to pass out." I tried to help him but he held an arm out preventing me from going near him. We both stood backs against the concrete wall in the snow for ten minutes until he calmed down.
"I'm sorry..you have no idea how sorry I am about everything." He spoke evenly holding his side, I knew he was still not a hundred percent from when Andy jumped him. "I'm sorry I yelled at you to shut up, I really just needed to get to the phone to find out. I don't want to lie but I promise to explain it's just that we need to go to the hospital."
"But Pony said the gang was all there, who's in the hospital Dally?" He whipped his face and took a breath.
"Curly was supposed to keep Andy away from Bucks but he screwed up. That's why Tim came into the room, had to get bail money. However I sent one of Shepard's boys to meet someone to surprise you. Now can we just go now please?" He begged and I went with him back to the car to the hospital.
"Oh thank god, Dallas." It was Jamie sitting the the ER waiting room with a cast on his arm.
"I thought you were hurt when I called and they said you were here." Dally began to breath again but Jamie's eyebrows furrowed.
"Dallas I got a call saying you were in critical condition, that's why I'm here a day early." The two of them were attempting to figure out why they were sent on this goose chase when I saw it. I tugged Dally so he'd look down the hallway, it was Max. I saw his red hair down the hall and nurses scrambling.
"They brought him in a few minutes after I got here saying he is having an overdose." Jamie sadly said. Dally ran down the hall, Jamie and I tried to stop him. By the time we got down the hall the Doctor declared he was dead. I thought Dally was going to snap, he asked a million questions.
"Sir calm down he's gone there's nothing we could do. He had a lethal amount of heroine in his system, he crashed in the field. Are you family?" The nurse asked while the Doctor signed the forms and covered Max's body.
I really don't remember what happened after that, Jamie ran after Dally who bolted outside. I called Darry to let him know, than waited for the staff to bring me Max's belongings. I just waited and waited even after I got his things. I couldn't move I don't even remember when Darry got to the hospital. He had to call Joe, I felt bad for him because I knew Joe was going to kill someone. Joe would find the person who dealt Max the drugs or the doctor who couldn't do anything and kill them. I just kept wondering why Max was back in Tulsa and not in Chicago with Joe. My mind kept turning, I knew, Dal knew, it was because of Andy. Even if no one else thinks twice about it, we will always know it was him. Maybe he lucked out or pushed the needle himself, but he killed the awkward kid with red hair and freckles.
Darry took me to his house because I think Dally and Jamie weren't home yet and didn't want me staying alone. He had to tell everyone about Max but I over heard him talking to Soda. Darry said Joe had no clue where Max has been, that Max left two months ago from Chicago and he hasn't heard from him since. He told Darry he was using drugs back then so Joe figured he died at some point along the way. That crushed me, hearing how Max spun out. Darry said when they release his body they were going to just bury it here in Tulsa but not a funeral as it would be to expensive. I felt bad for Johnny, Pony, Curly and Dally for losing one of their close friends like that. I know all will be okay with time but I don't know if Dal will ever be. Everyone went to bed around midnight, the twins slept with Pony on the bed, johnny in my small old bed, Darry and Nancy as usual, while Steve, Soda, and I made beds on the floor. We left the couches open for when Jamie and Dally come home, if they even come back here at all.
