Luke's pov
The girls just got back while we were doing some last minute cleaning to have everything done before the case worker got here. "Is that everything babe?" Del asked.
"Yeah that's everything."
"Now all we gotta do is watch Logan." I sighed.
"Yeah. Hopefully that goes well."
"We just gotta watch her mouth, for the most part," Colby said. I nodded.
"Okay, this woman is going to be here in any time now. Best behavior, all of you."
Someone knocked on the door and I answered it.
"Mr. Patterson, I presume?"
"Yes."
"May I?" she asked, motioning inside.
"Yes." I stepped to the side and let her in.
"Thank you," she said writing on her clipboard. I closed the door behind her.
"Can you show me around? I also need to do a little interview with everyone in the house to make sure the twins can live....here."
"Yes of course." We started walking around downstairs through the living room and the kitchen.
"So, how many people live here, exactly?"
"Well it's just me, my fiancee, and my daughters. Everyone else is just friends that sometimes come to stay."
"Mhmm. So how many daughters do you have?"
"Two. Logan and Alex."
"Ah, yes. Alex," she said. "Well, I will need to speak with them both."
"Okay. Alex, Logan can you guys come to the kitchen!?" They walked downstairs and over to us.
"Is this the lady?" Logan asked, smirking to herself. I gave her a look.
"Yes, Logan, this is... I'm sorry I never got your name."
"My name is Becky." Logan rolled her eyes.
"She has to speak with both of you."
"About what?" Logan asked.
"Oh, just mandatory. How you're doing, how you feel living here, just simple things," Becky said. "I also need to speak with your fiancee," she said turning to me.
"Ok I'll go get him." Her eyes widened.
"Him?"
"Yes him."
"Uh...okay," she said as I left to get Del. I walked in our room.
"Baby?"
"Yes?"
"Becky wants to meet you," I said walking over to him.
"Okay." He lifted his arms up. "Help me up?" I pulled him up and held him against me.
"I love you, Jon."
"I love you too, Luke. Now let's go get this over with." I kissed his cheek and grabbed his hand as we walked into the kitchen.
"If the four of you don't mind, I would like to ask you questions all at the same time." We all nodded and sat down at the table.
"So, how would each of you describe living here? Let's start with Alex and then we'll go to Logan and then your fiancee, and lastly you," she said looking at me.
"Um it's pretty chill. I mean, it can get a bit crazy but that's just when we have a lot a friends over. But that's not too often." She started writing on her clipboard again.
"Okay, Logan?"
"I guess what Alex said. I mean, she's not wrong. We all have time to ourselves, but we also spend a lot of time together." She nodded and scribbled on her paper again.
"Sir?" she asked looking at Del.
"I mean Alex and Logan basically summed it up. We have our time together, with friends, and by ourselves."
"Okay, um, Luke? A different answer would be nice."
"Well I mean, we don't really do much else so." She nodded.
"Okay, so a drug test is required for everyone in the house," she said grabbing a box out of her bag. Alex looked like she wanted to say something but didn't. "Is there anything I need to know upfront?"
"You have a piece of hair sticking up," Logan said. I sighed.
"Logan," I said.
"It's like right in front of-"
Logan," I said firmly. She rolled her eyes.
"Sorry, just trying to help this lovely lady out," Logan said slyly.
"Let's just get this over with."
"So, any drugs or medications?"
"I'm on 6 different medications," Alex said.
"For what, exactly? Is it to help with rehab?" I saw Logan clench her fist.
"Rehab? What are you talking about?" Alex asked.
"Oh, well, Mr. And Mrs. Jackson said that you were in a rehabilitation center for opiod addiction."
"Hold up,"Logan said laughing. "Why would she be put on medication for a nonexistent drug addiction?"
"Logan," Del said.
"I never had an opiod addiction. I've never even done drugs. The only ones I take is what is prescribed for me by my doctor."
"What are these medications for?"
"Anger issues, night terrors, flashbacks, depression, anxiety, and my inhaler."
"And are you sure it would be safe for the boys to be in this household?"
"Yes. We're all sure," Logan said sternly.
"Well aren't you just a peach," Becky said sarcastically. I saw Logan tense and her breathing picked up.
"Ma'am, with all due respect, my medicine stays in the kitchen in the top cabinet right behind you so they wouldn't get ahold of it. Plus, I take my medicine every day. I don't try to skip out on taking it because I know I need it."
"Would a lockbox make you feel better, honey?" Logan teased.
"Logan, can you go downstairs in the deep freezer and pull out some beef so I can make burgers?" I asked.
"Dad, we don't-"
"Now, Logan," I said sharply. Logan huffed and went downstairs.
"Is she okay?" Becky asked.
"Yes she's fine."
"Is she on any medications?"
"No."
"Oh. She might need some," Becky whispered to Alex. Alex had a pissed off look.
"Okay why don't we go take these tests," I said grabbing Alex by the shoulders and leading her out.
"Well, we need Logan to take one as well," Becky said smirking. I stopped for a second and counted to ten.
"Of course. Del, could you go get Logan." He nodded and walked towards the basement.
"I will need to see where the kids will stay. I need to look at lighting and water fixtures. Are there any firearms in the home?"
"Yes, but they stay in my office and are always unloaded and have the safety on. But no one goes in my office except for me. Plus, the door stays locked."
"Hmm, alright." Logan walked in and snatched the drug test out of her hands. "Logan, will there be anything in your system I need to know about before hand." She looked at me.
"First off, my kids don't do drugs. No one does in this house. Second, I would kindly appreciate it if you didn't accuse them of doing drugs."
"Just doing my job, Mr. Patterson."
"No, your job is to look at our house, evaluate us, and go on your merry way. What you are doing is harassment and I will press charges against your cow looking ass," Logan said. Alex put a hand on Logan's shoulder.
"Calm down, Lo." Logan sighed.
"Please take those." We all go to take the drug tests and come back to the kitchen. "While we're waiting, I have a few more questions."
"Okay."
"So, I was told that your daughters get into trouboe often."
"It's nothing serious just minor altercations."
"Such as?"
"Just when they were in school with bullies and stuff."
"Ah okay. Will these children be taken care of properly?"
"Yes." She started looking at our tests. "Everyone is all good to go except for Logan. What drugs are you on?" Logan froze. Alex looked at Logan.
"D-Dad. I need to go to my room," Logan said breathing heavily.
"Del, can you take her to her room." He nodded and walked Logan upstairs.
"Luke, I know this must be a shock. Do you know what Logan has been taking?"
"She hasn't been taking anything it's just that um."
"It's just what?"
"So, Logan used to box but we found out that her trainer was....doing things to her, including drugging her. Its probably leftover in her system. We reported this all, but that's what you're finding."
"I see." It got a little awkward. I heard Logan screaming from upstairs. Del ran downstairs.
"Luke, I need you for a moment. Now."
"Yeah."
"Well, I'll just go ahead and finish this talk with Alex." I nodded and headed upstairs.
