BEEP BEEP!
"Oh, sorry sir, hang on a minute. Okay, try again."
Thanks for the translation, Jamie.
I stepped through the metal detector again, but it still wouldn't let me pass. Just like the last time, I made sure that nothing was in my pockets, whether it was metal or not.
BEEP BEEP!
"Yeah, you seem clear enough. Go on through."
All of us made it past security, and I realized that it wasn't as bad as the ones in America were. I didn't complain, of course.
Every time we asked Jamie for a translation of something, she'd give us a disapproving
look, then she'll tell us as if it was obvious. It was weird until the man in the tuxedo showed up. That's when it got strange, but let's speed up to right before Bailey noticed him.
---------------------------
I stood in between Landon and Bailey, walking back towards gate A16. Everyone was quiet, more because we all felt anxious. Alonzo, on the other hand, stood behind us as if we were all his children.
Bailey suddenly gripped my hand very tightly, and I shot her a questioning glance. "What's the matter?"
She motioned ahead of us, which was where our gate sat. At first, nothing was too out of the ordinary until a single man stood away from the others. He wore a black tuxedo that looked like he was about to get married. He didn't look like he was NGZ, but he gave off that vibe. It was the first time I actually felt it since Mexico City.
He looks NGZ, I thought to Bailey. It's been a while since we did the mind-reading thing together. What do you think?
She nodded her head, keeping her mouth sealed shut as we made it to the gate. A few people gave us suspicious stares, but I hoped that it was just the hoodies. I was desperate to take it off since it made me hot, but we all said nothing about it.
"You guys see that tuxedo guy over there?" I asked with a low voice. "He gives me that vibe."
"He's got nothing on him," Landon said, his eyes scanning him up and down. "He's harmless, but I don't like him either."
"Hm, he just creeps me out," said Alonzo.
Then he looked up from his phone, and he stared directly at us. I stared back at him, and he simply smirked and walked over towards us, as if it was oh-so causal.
I stood up and motioned Quentin and Alonzo to do the same. We met each other and stood in silence until Alonzo spoke.
"Who are you?"
"Why's it matter? You guys were the ones staring me down. You recognize me or something?"
"Not entirely," I said. "But whoever you are, you'd best back off. You don't want to mess with us."
He chuckled. "Or what, hoodie boy? What can you do? I'm not scared of you."
I balled my fist up and prepared to charge it, but a hand suddenly gripped my arm. I looked back, and it was Quentin.
"Not here," he whispered. "You'll only get us in deeper trouble than we're already in."
"Yeah, you'd best listen to that boy, Powell."
The three of us snapped our heads at the mention of my last name. Behind us, Donovan stood up, looking at us in case something bad was about to go down.
