*I just now realized that I forgot to post the Prologue. So because of my mistake, I want to make it up to you. I will be posting a chapter today and an extra chapter sometime this week (most likely Friday) instead of in the next two weeks. I hope this makes up for it

Enjoy the Prologue...

"ATHENA ROSALEE KALMAN, DON'T YOU DARE WALK AWAY FROM ME WHEN I'M SPEAKING TO YOU!"

"WHAT!" Athena screamed at her mother.

"Please, I'm begging you-don't do this. You are making the biggest mistake of your life." Her mother pleaded.

"Mom just stop okay. I'm twenty-two years old, and legally I'm an adult so you can't tell me what to do anymore...and what I want to do-is go with Lance-"

"Athena listen to me...that man-" Athena's mother tried to explain but was cut-off by her daughters excessive rambling.

"-I know you hate him mom, but I-I-I don't care, because I love him...and-and he loves me...and I'm going with him whether you like it or not."

"Love," her mother chuckled heartlessly, "-what do you know about love Athena. You have literally known this man for what-three months!"

"So-what's your point? You and dad knew each other for less than a month before you got married." Athena argued.

"Well...That...That-that...that was differ-" Her mother stammered trying to find the right words.

"Wow! You know what-you're such a fucking hypocrite mom. How is what Lance and I have any different from what you and dad had?" Athena questioned her mother.

"At-Athena I just...we just knew-and I just. Baby trust me, he is not good for you. I mean for crying out loud you dropped out of college for him...he is already ruining your life!" Her mother shrieked throwing her arms about wildly.

"First of all, Lance didn't make me do anything...that was my choice. And second of all why do you even care. Just because you decided to live the rest of your life alone, miserable and unhappy ever since dad died does not mean that I have to do the same. This is my life. Not yours okay...and what I want to do with MY life is no longer YOUR concern GEORGIA." Athena spewed words of venom.

Clutching at her chest, Athena watched in horror as her mother let out a surprised gasp before raising her hand, and slapping her across the face, "Okay...okay fine. Leave, since you're so grown. Get your shit and get out of my house!"

"Gladly!" She growled massaging the inside of her sore cheek with the tip of her tongue.

Just then Lance walked through the front door, "Hey," he pauses, looking between the two woman curiously before his eyes settle back on Athena, "you ready to go babe?".

"Yeah." She mutters under her breath, not breaking eye-contact with her mother.

"Hello Georgia." Lance greeted politely with a charming smile.

"Drop dead Satan." Athena's Mother seethed, taking a threatening step forward.

"Oh Georgia," Lance chuckled throwing his arm over Athena's shoulder, "you're such a hoot...I'm gonna miss our little banters. But don't you worry your pretty little head. I'll take real good care of our little girl...okay." He grinned before turning his attention back to Athena.

Giving her shoulder a quick squeeze he slowly leaned down to whisper in her ear, "I'll be outside in the car, don't take too long though babe. Our flight leaves in two hours."

Grabbing the remainder of Athena's bags Lance began to walk back towards the front door when he stopped mid-step, turning on his heels to face the two woman once more, "Goodbye Georgia." Lance announced cheerfully before walking back out the front door.

When he was no longer in sight, a heart-wrenching yet suffocating silence consumed them both.

Neither one wanted to speak in fear of what the other would say, but they both knew staying silent was no longer an option at this point in time...because they had both said too much.

"Bye mom." Athens spoke grimly as she turned on her heels to walk out the front door. But before she could take another step she felt the slightest of tugs on her elbow-halting her movements.

"Do you know what the definition of poison is?"

"Mom don't have time for one of your lessons in literatu-" Athena complained trying to tug her arm out of her mothers grip...but to no avail.

"Do you know what the definition of poison is?!" Georgia said more forcefully-tightening her grip on her daughters elbow.

"Ow-yeah-it means to cause serious illness or death if absorbed or introduced to your bloodstream." Athena squealed.

"You know what else it means..." her mother questioned further.

"Mom seriously- I don't..."

"-Poison also means when a person, idea, action, or situation is considered to have a destructive or corrupting effect or influence. You may have also heard of malice, spite, canker, and one of my personal favorites cancer. All of which perfectly describe your little boyfriend." She explained taking a step towards her daughter.

"Mom I-" Athens stammered before she was interrupted by her mother.

"Open your eyes Athena! I'm trying to help you but..."

"Why can't you just be happy for me mo-" Athena cried.

"HOW CAN I BE HAPPY ATHENA! TELL ME," Georgia choked on her sobs, "MY CHILD-MY ONLY CHILD IS THROWING HER LIFE AWAY FOR SOME...SOME SMOOTH TALKING ASSHOLE!"

"Mom-I love-" Athena continued to cry to her mother.

"He is not a good man Athena, I can see it in his eyes!" Georgi yelled, her voice cracking slightly.

"Mom don't." Athena pleaded with her mother, as her own voice began to shake.

"He is going to hurt you one-of these days..and by the time you finally release it...it'll be too late." Her mother warned as she took a step towards her daughter.

"Mom what are you saying?" Athena asked as she took a step back trying to put some much needed distance between her mother and herself.

"Thena...I love you baby-you know I do...but I refuse to watch another person I love slowly kill themselves. So when you leave this house," her mother warned, taking a threatening step  forward-and then another-and another-until Athena stood on the front porch and her mother stood in front of the doorway blocking the entrance, "Don't. Come. Back."

"Mom." Athena croaked, her eyes overflowing with tears.

"You have a flight to catch...Goodbye Athena." Georgia softly said before gently shutting the door in her daughter's face.
